So I am here at the pool now, and an instructor told me I need to get out of the pool because they are having a class. I am a paying member and sitting off to the side. He complained to management, who said it was ok to stay where I am. The instructor then gets on the microphone and says I apologize for the black person in the back that won't move. I pay for the gym like everyone else and was not disturbing the class. I pay for the gym and tye pool membership and him forcing me out is in consideration when I am not interrupting in any way and did not know the class was going to happen. For him to call me out on the mic to try to embarrass me for sitting on the side was nasty and disrespectful. Especially while other individuals are in the pool watching and not participating. This way a very highly racist and disrespectful display for the gym. And I've been a member and never experienced this.. I have photos and video too. This lifetime is truly one of the most luxurious gyms in NYC or really anywhere. I can't remember the last time I've been in a locker room as nice the one here. One of the big reasons I signed up for a membership here was for their renowned basketball court which is newly renovated and great for pickup games or just to shoot around. The weight and cardio machines are super high tech and advanced- I've never seen anything like some of them. The weight floor is a bit smaller than I would have hoped but they have almost everything you need. I really hope they add a T bench for tricep extensions and one of those padded things to rest your ankle on while doing Bulgarian split squats. As a swimmer I was also disappointed to find out the length of the pool is way shorter than a standard pool length. It's about 18 meters while a normal pool is 25- this makes it way more difficult to keep track of distance while swimming laps. The #1 best thing about this lifetime is the outdoor rooftop pool which is BEAUTIFUL- great place to relax at all hours of the day. read more

This gym is just ok but full disclosure I'm reviewing it as a tourist. I'm from Texas and assumed all Lifetimes are pretty much the same. This review is mostly for the sauna area as I didn't workout today. ChatGPT said this Lifetime in Manhattan had the best spa and boy was I disappointed. First of all, why is it co-ed?? The lifetimes in Dallas and Las Vegas are not. The women and men have separate saunas. I was so disappointed to go and try and relax and be the only woman in the sauna with 7 guys. Like for real? That is so stressful. The jacuzzi looked ridiculous, it's tiny and was full of dudes too. Like I said, maybe I'm just used to something different but my gyms back home are pretty luxurious and private. Because it's still the Lifetime brand I can only assume they are paying as much as I am? Idk but I pay $329 and I would never pay that much for this gym or even pick this one as my main one. I'm half tempted to try the Dumbo location, I think it's newer? Also your steam room was broken... and the pool has only three tiny lanes? I'm just confused what people are paying for. It's got to be location alone. Also someone else mentioned gym etiquette and I have to agree, people wouldn't stop blathering in the sauna loudly about their job. Like who cares? There's no real consistency between the standards from location to location. I'm currently typing from the Astor Place location. It's way too small for the membership. The sauna here is falling apart and cramped. The bathroom products different from Wall Street which is different from 23rd which is different from 33rd. The elliptical, rowing machines are never consistent (or available) club to club. They one thing that is consistent is the lousy music in every changing room. What does Life Time subscribe to? Nice gym but the sauna needs to be fixed. Heat rises so there needs to be multi level seating. The gaps at the door needs to be fixed as the heat escapes through the gaps. These can be easily fixed with draft stoppers. I have asked the staff many times to get it fix to no avail. The temperature in the sauna doesn't get hot enough to have the health benefits. The staff is consistently friendly and helpful. We came from Equinox/67th which has a totally different feel,. It' has a much more cold feeling, is expensive for a premier membership and they nickel and dime the members which o don't like. (they charge 1.50 for a cup!). Sky is clean, has all the bells and whistles and again the staff, which in my opinion makes or breaks one's experience, is excellent. The sauna is large but gets crowded in the evening so come earlier if that is not to your liking. It stays hot regardless which is what I care about. I joined for the pickle at Sky and Penn 1. which I love. It's very popular as you can imagine as the courts are excellent, all the teachers range from very good to fantastic and it's run well. This is the swankiest, cleanest, and classiest gym I have ever been to. I was just blown away by how pristine everything is. The locker rooms are beautiful and clean, and just showering and pampering in there is really fun! No need to bring your own locks, as there are built-in locks in the lockers, so you can set your own lock combo. The caveat, however, is that the machines and equipments are not as diverse as 24 Hour Fitness (which is known to be the cheapest and dirtiest of all the gym chains). For instance, they didn't have roman chairs, so I had to use a bench as a substitute. It's also really pricey here, but I was able to gain access to the gym as a guest, and I absolutely enjoyed being a guest here! I'm also pleased that even when they called me to ask me if I wanted to sign up for a membership, even when I tried to brush them away by telling them I'm busy, they got straight to the point and just wanted me to give them a simple yes or no if I was interested in a membership. No dragging me along, they simply respected my "No." Yes, respect the no! Their spa, which I'm writing a separate review for, was wonderful and relaxing! Great customer service. If I had the budget and money, sure, I would be more than happy to pay for a membership here! read more

I am not working and even if I was there are no available lap pool lanes. For the price which is almost as much as equinox that's the reason I joined and I can't get a lane. I tried asking the front desk to ask corporate to have 2 pple per lane. NY athletic and swim club which is much cheaper does that with no problems. I was a member there. There is no place to eat inside u have to get all dressed and go out to eat that's a huge nuisance and then get undressed again and qey again. I tried emailing corporate and the emails given don't work. There is no suggestion box even or a way to reach higher ups. I'm def going to try another gym next month. The hot tub is not even as powerful with jets on bottom like that all street spa. Equinox hotel spa has the lemon restaurant. And NY athletic and swim club has a fridge and microwave and a place u can eat bring ur own food. The 24 street location that has lanes is all rusty and closed by health department the hot tub. Def noshould get my money back for the month. Thanks I def recommend wallstreet spa or NY athletic and swim club for the same r actually 100 dollars cheaper price. Going to check out complete body salt water indoor and outdoor but it's also just one hr pool. Wallstreet spa u can stay all day no reservations ever needed and NY athletic and swim club too. They book it for u but u can always find a free lane if u want to stay swimming just floating or just to stay in the water for more then an hr limit. First, I am a huge LifeTime fan and regularly go to Wall Street, Dumbo and occasionally 23rd. Classes, facilities and staff have all been consistent solid 5's since I joined a couple years ago. Sky has some absolutely amazing features that I'll be back for, but unfortunately there are also red flags that might be the beginnings of a nose dive. Layout: Yesterday was my first time in, so I'm sure I'll get used to it, but navigating the gym is hella confusing. Some of it is in the basement. You need to take an elevator to the 11th floor for most of it. There is a separate wing on the street level that I never figured out how to get to other than going out the main entrance and coming in through a separate street entrance. Staff: Major fail for the majority of the staff. When I initially got to the gym, I entered through the mystery wing (pickleball?) entrance. The desk person was either asleep or absorbed in the game he was playing on his phone. I had to wave to get his attention after saying hello 3 times to find out how to get to the locker room. He sent me back into the street to the main entrance and went back to his phone. The person at the desk at the main entrance was having an argument on the phone with someone and didnt acknowledge me at all. Eventually someone (who was very nice) came out of a side office, checked me in and gave me directions. Cleanliness: The locker room was filthy. Like really bad. Dirty towels everywhere. Used tissues, q-tips, etc on the sinks. Every single shower was gross. Balls of hair everywhere, used razors, left over product packaging and hair ties. While cleaning is ultimately the responsibility of the gym, the state of the locker room is the fault of members complete and total lack of respect for common spaces. Ladies. Do better. Bathroom floors are EXTREMELY SLIPPERY Wet Lounge: The lap pool is one of the best I've seen. All the glass and skylight make it feel super open and airy. However, the woodwork in the hallway leading to it is all beat up and there are multiple patches of the ceiling crumbling. Stand up Vichy shower is amazing and something I will back for. Sadly the cold plunge was closed when I was there. The whirlpool is disgusting. Many missing tiles and in desperate need of having the scum scrubbed off the walls. Additionally, the benches are all different widths and there are weird slippery domes in the floor, so stepping in when the bubbles are going is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Steam room smelled horrible and was full of dirty towels, but there is a large marble platform in the center where you can really stretch out which is potentially luxurious. Sauna is basic. Lounge area full of dirty towels. Overall, I was pretty shocked to see this gym in comparison to other locations. If it was my first exposure to the brand, I'd take my business elsewhere. There are a lot of problems that it seems like a good manager could fix. The pool deck was closed due to rain when I was there, but I'll be back to check it out another time. Other than that, the schlep through the Times Square/port authority hellhole isn't worth it. read more

Happy Sunday, I went to the gym and rooftop pool today. #1 very underwhelming the front desk no personality very rushy, rude and unresponsive. #2 I pay almost 400 a month and they charge the extra for my guest at the rooftop pool (125)... WTF... like ya are greedy as hell... #3. Your staff in general especially the women and some of the catty gentleman have attitudes and seem bothered when you ask for simple things. Change your staff: You don't like ur job, find another one. Overall I'm canceling my membership and going to equinox. Side note: the bar in the rooftop sucks. But the second sauna has some problems. There is a large gap under the door. They put towels there to prevent steam from escaping. But this doesn't really help much. This morning, I went to our rooftop pool. We were having so much fun. My husband goes there every single day, and we enjoy the facility. However, today, a freak accident occurred. It was very sunny, and we were sitting under an umbrella. Suddenly, it started getting breezy, and the heavy arm of the umbrella came out of the foundation because there was no locking mechanism. I got a bruise and a scratch on my hand. I had to get a tetanus shot because the injury involved iron. Marcus ( the manager) forgot to write an incident report, and they did not take it very seriously. It could have been disastrous if it had fallen on someone's head or shoulder. It was a severe incident. I spoke to Courtney ( the manager), who took my number and asked me if Marcus had written an incident report. I have yet to receive any phone calls from them. Everything has been wonderful in all aspects until my girlfriend tried to rent a Cabana and couldn't get a confirmation. She refilled the form, and still no confirmation even of receipt until just before the day we needed the cabana. We were told Nicole was in charge but couldn't reach her. On one of the days, an employee told us she was at the gym luxuriating but not on the clock to help. When my girlfriend had sent me there prior to the arrival of the last minute confirmation, I got the runaround too. Was sent from front desk to Nicole. Unresponsive. Was sent to pool, but they sent me to Cafe. Cafe new nothing and sent me back to pool. I said it was the pool staff that sent me here so they said to wait for manager. Nobody ever came. Nobody to give my more than $400 bucks to to rend a cabana on their slowest day of the week. After trying for over a week, my girlfriend made other plans and cancelled out of frustration. We went anyway using our guest passes for our friends and ordered food and a pitcher but no Cabana. After ordering, they escorted us to the lobby like prisoners with our guests insisting we pay $50 per guest despite all they had put us through. We have a lot more to say about this and details will be added when we have more time or upon request. read more

To be perfectly honest this Gym/ Athletic Center is top of the line. Anything you can possibly want in a fitness center, day spa or elite country club they have thought of it ALL and have it available. Full size basket ball court, pools, saunas, spa treatments, and full range of fitness equipment & classes. Yes, all these amenities come with a pretty hefty monthly price tag. So you are wondering why the 2 star rating with such great highlights? It must be because of the cost, right? Nope! It's your money, you work hard for it you can spend it how EVER you like and here you will definitely get all that you pay for. My low review was for the LESS then welcoming and VERY dismissive gentlemen at the front desk (he actually didn't give his name and after he was disrespectful about my name, I wasn't interested) representing such an elite facility. As well as for the clearly stated (with out being said) astatic that they seem to promote. They have a certain look, and you can tell they want that maintained even with their customers and if you don't fit that look, class, size, weight...... (insert whatever else you would like in the continued list). You will clearly feel that vibe that you do NOT belong and you should allow your invitation to be a guest, not to exceed that... Just A guest pass!' Goes without saying not the best experience. However, The cycle class was awesome I came because I know that instructor from another company and will always support good people in new endeavors. I just signed up for a membership and mentioned this was my first time at this location, yet the woman was incredibly short and didn't tell me where anything was. I had to ask twice to figure out where the change rooms were as she read off a literal laundry list of where things are location at the speed of light. Update: I've re-joined after working out at home and even in the building's gym yielded no results. It's great to be back at least temporarily. Access directly from my home is fantastic. I love that they've added additional leg equipment. I don't like that the aerobics studio is pre-setup now for classes. I'm there when they open and used to enjoy the privacy of and view from that studio to do some exercises. The pool lanes are now limited to one hour per day. The good is that you get your own lane. Equinox allows 3 per lane which is why I'll never use it again. BUT I don't like the limitation of an hour. I used to swim for 2-3 hours at Lifetime. I'd come on a weekend morning and it was never an issue. Knowing the limitation ruined this activity for me. I'm an Equinox member so the luxury of it is okay. It's clean but gets busy fast. I wear my mask (optional) near the end of my workout in the cardio area. Cardio equipment is spread out so you can do cardio away from others, but the little side section tops off my winding down as it feels almost like a separate room. That said, they could benefit from a better variety of cardio. They seem to have the same machines just spread out. To be honest, I'm not sure I'll maintain my Equinox membership because the pandemic showed me that it's not essential to get a workout. Maybe convenience is better so I may stick with Life Time at Sky despite its lack of equipment comparatively. read more

To be brutally honest the gym is very underwhelming once you actually look past the aesthetics. I've been to luxury gyms at a comparable price point or slightly less and and they have more extensive amenities. But above all that, the space is so small and there's only 1 machine of each type even treadmills which tend to be the most ubiquitous in gyms got filled up. And at first I thought this was just a symptom of this club being located in New York but I've been to even "discount" and "budget" gyms in the city at 1/10th the price with 2x the workout space. I've been a member for about a month and I have to say, I love this gym. I love the concept. As a younger woman of color, I've been treated with so much respect and as I go every day, the staff gets even more accommodating. This specific location can get very crowded so I've been going to the 23rd street location for a more relaxing session. Lifetime Fitness, the Manhattan version, is about a third the size of a typical LT. One third the gym floor, one third the typical number of machines ... even the pools are one third as long and wide. Like most things in Manhattan, it's crushed by insane real estate prices, so it's all downsized and you get charged a surcharge besides - even LT members have to pay $40 per visit after your first, something I've not run into in any other LT. I will give it a kudo or 2 for the outdoor pools that come with Manhattan view. No other LT has that either read more

Awesome gym with an indoor pool full size basketball court and full service spa. Everything is new. The classes are amazing, I just wish they offered some late night classes during the week. Classes are included in the membership and they offer Pilaties on the reformers for a fee. There is a cafe and nice lounge to chill pre/post workout. Spa: The spa is unisex offering a steam room, sauna, cold plunge pool, rain shower with LED lights and a jacuzzi. It's a beautiful and calming atmosphere. They have a full service spa menu, manicure/pedicure, massage,facials and waxing. They also have a very nice relaxation room. I've had a HydraFacial and a manicure both of which were amazing. Prices are reasonable. Locker Rooms: The locker rooms are very spacious and clean. Lifetime carries JR Watkins products (another plus) and provide all the common amenities (q-tips, hairdryer, razors, hairspray) that you need. Staff: The staff is very professional. Always so friendly and nice no matter what time of day. They are accommodating and knowledgeable. Classes: Amazing. I am a big fan of the spin and Pilaties classes. All of the instructors are super motivated and the music is great. I usually go to the early morning classes around 6:15 am and it's a great start to the day. Overall: Amazing athletic club. I joined as a LT member earlier this year at one of the Long Island locations, have visited a couple of them and my experience has always been the same: welcoming staff, friendly service, clean locker rooms and (whether its an abs, arms or leg day) more than enough machines to suit my needs. Check-in Review: Upon arrival at the Manhattan Sky location, I was greeted by a fast talking young man at the service desk telling me they're a "Diamond Club" facility which he said none of the Long Island locations were (although I checked and they have Diamond Club signs at their own front desks). Anyway, he went on to tell me the next time I wanted to work out there I'd have to pay a $40 additional fee. Basically, buy a day pass like a non-member when I already pay a monthly fee or I needed to "upgrade" my existing membership for access. It was clearly my first time there and although there were three people behind the desk, no one offered to give me a quick tour of the facility. Odd approach considering their layout is on multiple floors like a dept store; also knowing I'm currently a member and could potentially upgrade my membership to work out there. Facility Review: Once I went downstairs, I had to walk around down several hallways to figure out where everything was: the locker rooms, indoor pool, hot tubs and steam room. I arrived on a Sunday afternoon at 5pm yet there was no staff to be seen in that area to help direct me. This lower level had a very dungeon-y feel to it. The showers were relatively clean, however, one section of the locker room smelled like sweaty socks. Hey its a men's locker room, I thought to myself, but then again that's something I've never encountered at any of the other facilities. The swimming pool was surprisingly lukewarm which was nice considering how cold it was outside that day. I'm an intermediate swimmer so I wasn't completely bothered by a Lifeguard being present only 30% of the time while I was in the pool during my 40min swim. Definitely something to keep in mind though. When I reached the weight room area on the upper level, it seemed small. There was also a meathead powerlifting when I arrived that stared in my direction like, "I know you're not going to try to invade my space". Very stand-offish and off putting. Have you ever been to a friend of a friend's house and not felt completely welcome? That's how I felt visiting this facility. I also agree with another reviewer on here regarding the elevator situation, kinda odd sharing an elevator with tenants who live in apts on the other floors. Who's monitoring whether or not non-members/tenants are wandering their way into the gym? Strange logistical configuration. Conclusion: For a facility that prides themselves on exclusivity and charges extremely expensive fees, they really lack in the customer service dept. This gym is a fraction the size of their Long Island facilities and seems to be severely understaffed. I have everything I need at the other locations and feel no need to return here or upgrade my membership.
