These are locally operated under a franchise model so different stores have different management, but at least for now it still has that charm. We loved the various fresh produce and the set of organic choices was great. We were fortunate to be able to just walk there from our lodgings and it was nice to get a fresh batch of organic produce for the evening. So if you are in Nelson, give this spot a try, its nicer that the more typical spots around town.

While walking around downtown Nelson we stumbled upon Fresh Choice. We saw interesting vegetables, substantial meat substitute options, a automated wine tasting system, and a nice selection of Whittaker's chocolates at good prices. I stocked up on the chocolate for gifts for friends. The cashier was very friendly. We found it well worth the visit during our limited time in Nelson.

It is predictably expensive, but offers a ton of bulk bins for both people staying in the area and snacks for the passing traveler. They have a very nice selection of specialty items and are a vegetarian haven. They also were offering real fruit ice cream, wherein they take some plain ice cream and some berries and put them in a blender in front of you. I don't eat a ton of dairy these days, but in New Zealand, it's a big deal. All told, I would definitely give it a visit.

If I were staying longer than two days in Picton, I would have gotten some of the meat and bacon. They sure looked good. The store's got all the necessities to make a meal or grab something hot or cold that's ready to eat. And of course it's got paper and other dry goods, has a small pharmacy section, a good bit of alcohol, etc. - really, everything you need. Also stuff you (and by that, I mean me) shouldn't be eating on your diet, like the Sultana biscuits I found in China in 2018, but haven't found since - until now. Who would think I'd find them again in Picton, New Zealand, in 2024? Life is good. The diet resumes when I return home. Friendly staff members here. BTW, someone at the store has a sense of humor. See the two self-explanatory photos.
