My last student is in the Clavius Program (math/science honors program) - also great. Lost one star due to the faculty - they post homework assignments at all hours of the night. Beware! - your student could get their homework posting at 8:00pm. Administration needs to put an end to this! This is why they lost one star. Also, they do challenge their students - two of mine craved the challenge but one did not and Loyola seemed to give up on him (totally understand that this is a two-way process) but in hindsight we (as parents) should of asked for more from Loyola (and I sure they would of accommodated whole-heartedly). Football is the sport on campus. I am sure this is true at most high schools. Wish more equality among teams. Enormous selection of sports (many are no-cuts - great) and clubs, clubs, clubs! Hard to decide - there is no chance your student cannot find an area of interest. Service (Arrupe, etc) is high priority. My favorite feature - Loyola changes - in all areas. Love that they are always striving to educate their students better - inside and out. Overall - highly recommend - the perfect stepping stone to college!

Students cannot focus during this long of periods, especially at a high school level. Social exclusion is also a big issue at this school. There are plenty of prestigious schools in the area; you are better off sending you student to another private school or one of those until the new principal gets his head screwed on correctly and fixes the new schedule.

Niles West High School - Well, I kept 5 classes of students awake and interested! Hopefully they learned and/or were inspired by something. One can only hope.

These are the sort of community based events that a public school's facilities should be used for, bringing the general public in to show what the tax dollars are being used for, and giving prospective students/parents an idea of what's ahead next. It is a large auditorium, with comfortable seating and good acoustics. It can host a large production, with a lot of available seating. It also has dedicated auditorium parking very close to the main auditorium entrance, but it's limited. The studio had 6 shows in all this Sunday, and between show 3 and 4, it was definitely busy in the parking area, but everyone was dealing with it happily: a beautiful day outside and a show that makes you feel young.

Other alums who've made the news are Rick Singer (think Lori Laughlin/Full House college admissions advisor) and George Papadopolous (foreign policy advisor for President Trump). Of course there are sports stars - Rashard Mendenhall (Steelers) and Jewel Lloyd (WNBA), Bart Conner (Gold medalist), etc. But what I really like about Niles West is that it's probably the most diverse high school in the country - by race, national origin and socio- economic status. See - a lotta people talk about supporting diversity but don't exactly want to live in it. Niles West embraces the over 100 different languages and makes it happen. And you don't have to be an elitist to attend this school, however, with hard work and good grades - you'll find yourself in elite company, in the very near future.

Back to business. If you attend Niles North and are interested in getting involved with the Drama program you're in incredible luck. Not only have they been praised all the way down the yellowbrick road for their plays, programs, and dedication to the craft, they also have a shop downstairs below the theater where students work from scratch to build, paint and put together sets. Students run the lights and sound, and believe you me, it's the best in at least all of IL in my opinion. If you're out to prove me wrong I beg you try. As far as academics are concerned, I had some issues with certain teachers and the ignorance of counselors, however North is a very accommodating school, as is West, and both have high academic standards and plant the seeds in their students for their college careers. I truly do suggest if you're moving to the area and have kids who will be attending high school soon you take a look into District 219.

The brotherhood there is unbelievable with these boys they have a great bond with each other. They have excellent teaching staff and many clubs and athletic opportunities to be in. Former student here, so I can give a better perspective than some of the kiss ass parents on here…read more I gave it two stars to be generous, as there are some good things to ND overall but the bad outweighs the good here. Pros: -Classes are great and teachers want to help you. -After school stuff is well funded and well organized. -The sports events are fun to go to and the team plays well. -There's some elements of cameraderie (I'll focus on it later) -Food is fantastic. Cons: -Students can be right-leaning, some even bordering white nationalism (students have used pro-Confederate quotes on Instagram, and publicly have used racial slurs along with positive feelings toward bringing back slavery). -Homogenous school setting (almost everyone is a middle class, white, Republican prep kid that likes some sport. No one is really diverse or unique). -Lack of IEP/Special Ed programs. -The administration, while friendly, tends to favor the vox populi rather than the people getting bullied. You can see that my only problems with this school is the kids and the lack of IEP programs. Everything else about is good. If you want a good Catholic school for your child, I'd recommend it if they can keep to themselves politically. Otherwise, if they're Left of Centre all I can say is get the popcorn ready.

A teacher smelled my…read morehair in front of the entire class because she was "curious", a student drew a swastika on the bottom of her shoe my freshman year, and some of my classmates were called the N-word along with it being said on several other occasions. Many of the Muslim students were made fun of for their religious beliefs. I was told that my hair was "sassy" by a classmate by sophomore year, whatever that means. Dr. Allworth did absolutely nothing when she was informed about it and her only solution was to put up posters around the school reminding students not to say the N-word instead of just holding the students who were saying it accountable. If a student donates a lot of money to Regina and does anything wrong, they will never face the repercussions of their actions as the school does not want to risk losing their funding. Not to mention the fact that I was assumed to be there on scholarship on several occasions because they couldn't fathom the fact that I could afford to be there. A student told me that she would call her father who was a police officer on me because she felt like I was using my "black privilege". All in all, this is not a safe environment for students of color, and was an extremely traumatizing experience for me.
