We spoke the other day with the medical director. He took a good amount of time to talk to us about my loved one's medical condition and our concerns. Looked in depth at his chart and history. Ultimately told us to invite our loved one's PCP to contact him to share thoughts to try to dig deeper into some things. In short, very personal attentive one on one care. Very knowledgeable. You don't get that everywhere if at all. The fact the head medical director made himself available to us without requiring a scheduled meeting or heads up is amazing care. Every staff member we have encountered is kind and friendly. Very personable and outgoing. You don't get the bare minimum. You can tell they care. They joke. They express concern. They listen and interact. And we have seen this with other patients in other rooms when no third parties are around. So it isn't just best behavior when family is present. It is the way of life here. So I continue to be so pleased with this facility.

There are friendly faces everywhere. They are so very attentive to the patients. It is remarkably clean. The food is fresh and flavorful and varied. They have many social events planned and the guests are welcome to sit in the common areas or go outside with family. They have coffee bar set up for patients and family. Everything about this facility gives you comfort in knowing your loved ones are being well cared for.

If this were a month ago, I would have rated this place (in Fair Lawn) five stars because of how…read morethey helped me six years ago when I was having back issues. It took a few visits to the chiropractor and a lot of massages but eventually, my back healed. Recently, after a very unfortunate visit to a physical therapist at another outlet (where they seemed far more interested in making money at the patient's expense and less in treating people like they weren't disembodied dollar signs), I decided to go back to Select Wellness. Given my very positive history with them, I thought this would be a shoo-in. A month ago, I started experiencing some recurring knee stiffness and slight soreness following strenuous workouts at the gym. Yes, I'm old but I've always been in good shape and have always exercised. The first PT told me I had a slight swelling in my knee (which I didn't see--she told me I wouldn't but she could as she's trained) and suffered a mild knee sprain from "wear and tear." Well, the PT at Select Wellness was very condescending. She laughed at me that I didn't see the swelling (yeah because the protuberance is so obvious--RME). I ignored her jabs as I wanted to focus on the healing. I have to say her initial round of exercises were helpful. But again, I really don't need for someone to be nasty toward me because I don't have a trained PT eye when it comes to swelling. I just wanted my knee to be on the mend--that is all. On the third session, she didn't even take me (and naturally, Select Wellness didn't even tell me about the change beforehand as I'm clearly just a number/a meaningless abstraction to them) but farmed me out to an aide or fellow PT. Good god. He did an exam on me that didn't even seem to take account anything that my regular PT had done. I'm not even sure the regular PT even wrote anything down regarding her work with me--that's how much I was a second thought to them and the office (probably because she can't earn as much money from me). Anyway, this guy examined me and was astonished that someone of my age would be in good shape. Yeah, I'm old but not THAT old. Then he had me do a series of exercises like squats, which my first PT at the other office told me NOT to do. He also put for some unfathomable reason decompression tape on my knee and told me to leave it on the next day. And then to top it off, he made very ageistic cracks about me--that my condition was a result of aging and eventually I would need a knee replacement like him. Forget about the fact that I did NOT tear my meniscus, tested negative for ACL and ligament injuries. Anyway, I took that tape off later that night as I found it put too much pressure on my knee. You know what ensued from the squats and all the exercises he forced me to do--intense pain and soreness, which I didn't have when this whole thing started! Now I need physical therapy for the physical therapy. If you want to feel like a number and have arrogant PTs make fun of you, then go here. But please don't. You know what really upsets me about this whole experience, even with the arrogance and the ageistic jabs? I still trusted them based on my past history with Select Wellness. And now I feel my trust was violated. Again, please avoid this place like the plague.

Jean and Lauren, at the desk were always available to provide information regarding scheduling and insurance issues. They state that insurance verification is complete and ask you to book an appointment, further misleading patients into believing they are in-network. It is only during the appointment booking process that they disclose their out-of-network status and present their private fees for plans they do not accept. To avoid unnecessary delays and confusion, they should be transparent from the beginning and clearly state that they are out-of-network.

I have a minor pinched nerve in my lower back and I have gotten strong in my back and glutes that has eliminated any pain and tingling I have had. I have also had the added benefit of my muscles visibly gaining shape. All of the physical therapists are great. Amanda has been the therapist helping me and she challenges me without pushing me past my comfort zone. She is knowledgeable and continuously looking to make herself a better therapist for her patients. She is professional, but also makes the task of going the PT every week an enjoyable experience with her outgoing personality. I look forward to each appointment even when sometimes going to PT can feel daunting. I would highly recommend Maven to anyone in need of physical therapy. The staff / coaches are super nice, encouraging and helping you get motivated for your exercises. The members there are equally as nice and encouraging, and without judgement regardless of your fitness level. Just overall a pleasant experience for getting and staying into shape. I have not used their Physical Therapy services yet, but if/when I do, I know I'll definitely come here given how knowledgeable and great their staff is. If you are into it they also have activities outside of the gym to do together such as running local race running, Spartan races and other various activities.
