Seeing their FB post about their buffet, and I decided to go there with my h usband to try it out on a Friday evening. Upon arrival, the parking lot was half full, plenty of patron comfortably seated and one waiter taking care of everyone in a large dining area. It was fairly busy and most of the patrons were having the buffet. Our waiter arrived with the menu and promptly asked us about the drinks. We ordered Pepsi which it was excellent. I ordered the buffet and husband ordered the cheese toastie sandwich and a side of fries. I went up to the buffet table, nothing fancy or special but a regular salad bar and hot food tables. Everything is clean, neatly in order and the owner regularly checked the contents and taking care of food in the back. I chose the fried chicken and fish which they were a bit greasy, sitting on bottom of the pan, and lukewarm, dried out which I knew it has been sitting there for quite some time. The gravy was a bit metallic and a hint of being burnt (or cooked too long). Corn/green beans were of cheaper quality, tasted tinny, bland in flavor. Not impressed. The salad was excellent, no complaints there. Good ranch dressing! Everything was full in its bowls and very COLD! The melons were delicious and very sweet! The cakes, one seems to be a maple iced pecan? cake, it was SO good and I loved it. The other one seems to be a spice cake/pumpkin maybe, it was okay, a bit tough on the chew but with a bit of sweetness, it will do! My husband's dinner, he proclaimed it was excellent. It was toasted well, cheese melted thru and the fries were HOT and crispy. I've eaten there before a year or so ago, had the cheeseburger and fries, they were excellent. Almost finishing our dinner, I noticed the patron that came a bit later, after six PM, the buffet was not refilled, and some were waiting for some fresh fried chicken, which it was almost out. I noticed some only took what they wanted and just decided not to eat any more or waiting over 30 minutes for fresh batches to come out. We left so we have no idea if the hot food line was replenished or tossing out older food out. Our waiter was busting his chops, waited on everyone, taking their orders and he was on fire! Very polite and courteous and any questions we asked, he was attentive and very nice! Kudos to him stepping up when they were short staffed that evening. We also had a nice little performance, a lady with a guitar, singing some pop and rock and roll. All in all, its not a bad place to eat but it needs a bit of improvement with the quality of food and the timing of food sitting there/replenish as necessary. Will I order the buffet again? If you're a big eater you'll get your money's worth here. Their special was $3.99 and included your choice of 3 breakfast items. The hubs ordered 4 and the extra one was a half order of biscuits and gravy which covered the plate and it was only $1.59. Check came to only $13.55 before tip and that included two breakfasts, a grilled sweet roll (forget KETO today and splurge-it was great!) and one coffee. Where can you eat that much for so little? There are 2 sides to the establishment. There is a cozy little cafe on one side and a billiard room and bar on the other. The food at the cafe is good. You can't go wrong with anything you order. Be sure to ask about the specials. Breakfast can be served all day which is a plus. The morning and lunch employees are always friendly. The owner is always nice. I can't say the same about some of the nighttime employees on the bar/billiards side. Some of the bartenders can be very rude. As a customer, you can say "please" and "thank you" all evening, pay your bill, and leave a generous tip and still be treated rudely. The phrase "everyone get the F out" has been said so many times that I'm starting to think it's a slogan. I would give this place a 4 or 5 star rating if some of the servers on the pool room side at night didn't curse at the customers. I'm just going to have to join the list of people who avoid this place for that reason and move my pool league teams elsewhere. read more

Was looking forward to a warm cinnamon roll this morning, but, at 8:30, they didn't have any. Disappointing when they are supposed to have such a great reputation for cinnamon rolls! We ordered the breakfast special. DH got bacon (crispy), scrambled eggs, and hash browns. The hash brown were completely cold and not browned at all. My guess is the cook took them out of the freezer, defrosted them, and put them on the plate. The bacon was far from crispy. I ordered a pancake, bacon (crispy), and wheat toast. The pancake was good -- not great, but edible. The bacon, again, was no where near toasty. And, the toast -- it's called toast for a reason folks -- not bread! It had maybe been in the toaster because the surface was not soft, but it was not toasted. They seemed to have lots of regulars, but we won't become one. read more

Lunch here is a great option for Decatur - the torta and Cuban are my favorite sandwiches. They also offer a wide variety of traditional diner lunch fare, which does not disappoint. We were blown away by the breakfast menu! So many different items with a south of the border flare. The breakfast burrito is not to be missed, and the sausage is great. We have been here several times for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can't beat the prices! Generous portions and great service. We stopped in last night with out of town friends. A freind of mine posted somthing on his Facebook page about a restaurant with a few special selections. The pictures of the food looked good enough that I thought I'd try it. I was torn between a sandwich they call the Cuban and a sandwich called the Torta. I was so torn I ordered both. I did have some help. The Cuban is made with roasted pork so tender I was genuinely confused as to what it was. So delicious combined with ham, bacon, provolone, pickles, mayonnaise and spicy brown mustard. The Torta is made with the same tender pork, tomato, onion, avocado, jalapeño, sour cream and a spread of refried beans. I don't know which to recommend. They are both delicious! But I will insist you try the guacamole. I don't even like guacamole much, but my daughter does and I heard theirs was good so we ordered some. Let's just say I had more than my share and I didn't feel a bit bad about it. Big chunks of fresh avocado and whatever other majic they work made me a guacamole lover. I guess I just didn't know what good guacamole was. There's more good stuff on the menu I can't wait to try, but I'll be eating more guacamole for sure. read more

Small little place with great dishes. Not an extensive menu, but what they do, they do well. The Mexican torta sandwich is good! The pulled pork BBQ was good. Guacamole is tasty. Heard the Cuban sandwich is super good, but have yet to try it. read more

I have been to New Moon Cafe three times now. I really enjoy the tacos. The soups are good. I really enjoy the guacamole with chips. It's made fresh to the order each time.
