This was my 2nd trip to the Maharajah and I'd not been since 2010. I'd tried it as my cousin had said it was great although generally I'm not very trusting of eating curries outside of Birmingham I'd got some American friends with me this time and wanted to take them somewhere nice. This has a massive rear conservatory space with Ocean Views which makes for a great experience. The staff are friendly, cheeky and charming and will tailor make your food for you. You have yo ask if you want it with more spice or less spice as everyones tastes are different and they get people from all over the country. Went here in a largish (10) group last month, party because they advertise beautiful views of the coast, which unfortunately we didn't get because they put us in a back room for larger parties. We did have a tv screen with live footage of the bay though! Service was reasonable, although we did have to ask 3 times for pitchers of water to be brought to the table (other drinks we ordered were brought immediately). Food wise I was not terribly impressed. The curries seemed bland, and probably produced from one main sauce with just a few extra spices added at the end. Each curry was reasonably expensive at an average of £10 - a fair bit more expensive than London. Adding on side dishes, rice, nann, drinks etc I think the bill was about £30 each. I have the feeling that this is the sort of place that caters for tourists rather than replying on repeat business from locals. read more

I've been going to Maharajah for over 20 years and the food and service has always been Fantastic. I look forward to going there every time I'm in Newquay. I am sorry to say I'll never go back after our treatment last night. Asked for a table for 3 and was told 15 to 20 minutes. Other people ahead of us were seated. Group of 4 English came in shortly behind us followed by an Italian trio. After 10 minutes an Indian group of about 6 came in followed by an Indian couple a few minutes later. They had not booked a table the same as us and didn't appear to know the host. After a while the host comes back takes the big group of 6 then calls my names looks up to see the other Indian couple and changes his mind and waves them over instead. We all looked at each other in disbelief! Another 5 minutes go by. Just to be sure we checked the list of people waiting. The last two group names were indeed after the 3 groups who had been waiting so we left leaving another group checking the list as we did. So sad I'll never go back. On a positive note there's a fantastic Thai restaurant just across the road which this disappointing event gave us the opportunity to enjoy. :-) Happy Days. read more

I'm a big curry fan... But I hadn't had a curry for over 3 months as I ran out of new decent experiences in Peterborough where I'm from! I was recommended these guys by a lady in tesco, and I almost wanna go back and give her a kiss but I'm that stuffed I'll let my imagination do the thanking! Best Indian in town. The takeaway service is great but if you fancy fine dining with an incredible view, this is the place to go. I would say the menu is fairly priced, quick service with friendly staff and most importantly, good food. read more

The restaurant smelled lovely from outside, until we entered! :( We were seated, the souroundings were lovely.....its just the food was not up to scratch. The meal was a mix of water and uncooked onions with frozen chicken......0/5 I would most definatley NOT reccomend to a friend or a stranger for that matter! With a beautiful view from the restaurant we had high hopes but were on the whole disappointed. The food was just OK but the service was poor, slow to send food out and repeated requests for service were needed. It is most definitely not a place that caters to repeat business but to just getting the tourists through the door and out again. A shame but I would not go back but would try some of the less well positioned indian restaurants nearby. read more

When we come to England, we never forget to eat at an Indian restaurant. It is always a surprise, and the Maharajah was a very positive surprise for us. Great view of the Atlantic. we planned to eat there. when we arrived, we were seated in the waiting area and they gave us the menu and told us to wait. they weren't friendly and other guests who came in after us were seated before us. they don't seem to care about their guests. they could have told us sorry, no tables available at the moment, come back in 1 hour or it could take 20 minutes before you are seated, would you like to have a drink and wait? read more

I have eaten in the resteraunt and had takeaway from here, overall I was pleasantly surprised at the beautiful views and lovely food.

we wasn't impressed at all. although my starters was rather nice but then the main came out it was discusting, i had a masala and it tasted like a pot of cream with tom puree in it . i literally had two mouthfuls, i also orded mushroom and okra bahjees and they were horrible. my parner hated his too. we asked for it to be put in a takeaway box paid and left and then put it all in the bin. i wish i had asked for my money back now and we were also all seated up one end and it was too noisey read more
