The Downtown Connection has been serving the community for over 20 years, and it remains NYC's only free circulator bus. It's a good resource for connecting Lower Manhattan and Battery Park City. The buses run daily from 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., each bus seats about 22 people, and they're easy to spot thanks to that bright red branding. There is, however, room for improvement. They claim to have an updated tracking system with real-time maps and apps for iPhone/Android, but in my experience, the tech doesn't always match reality. The biggest frustration? I've had drivers cruise right past me while I was standing at a designated stop. I'm not sure if they're just trying to stay on schedule, but it defeats the purpose of a commuter service. Bottom line: If you can actually catch one and the driver is willing to stop, you certainly get your money's worth. Just don't count on the GPS being 100% accurate.

It was habit for me to accept the brochure out of politeness, in case I might change my mind about visiting, and the idea that it is easier for me to read a piece of paper sometimes than trying to navigate a phone browser or phone app where something might not sync up because of bad connection or bad programming. Usually, it's the bad programming that gets me more than anything. At the same time, something is better than nothing at all though, right? I am thankful to save a few steps along my route.

Coach…read more The Dartmouth Coach service to and from NYC has made it possible for me to FINALLY be able to easily and regularly get to Manhattan and Broadway and SUSHI from The Upper Valley. Prior to The Dartmouth Coach starting this route to NYC it was beyond horrendous to try to get there. I don't actually have an entire day to waste on Amtrak (which may or may not run). I definitely don't want to have to drive and then park and then drive back. I get on The Dartmouth Coach at 6:15am and I'm in Manhattan in time for lunch AND a matinee AND an evening performance. Oh! And did I mention I got to NAP THE ENTIRE WAY DOWN?? Personally I'm not interested in watching movies or surfing the net. I work. A LOT. So if i'm heading down to NYC it's for a well deserved BREAK and I had to get up at like 4am to even get to the bus. I LOVE the opportunity to sit on a completely clean and QUIET bus with a nearly fully reclining, oversized seat and SLEEP. Although I'm also neither a small child nor an idiot. I travel equipped with headphones and downloaded podcasts and audiobooks on my cellphone, which I simply plug into one of the convenient outlets located in front of my seat so that even if I listen to something for a full 5 hours my phone is at 100% when I hit those Manhattan sidewalks! I was very curious as to why The Dartmouth Coach had such a low rating on Yelp. So I read the other reviews here. Wow. Just wow. Getting to a bus that is LEAVING at 1:30pm AT 1:30pm is late. I am personally DELIGHTED that The Dartmouth Coach does not simply ignore every passenger who arrived on time to cater to a few incredibly entitled late people who clearly care about no one but themselves. Also? I do not expect anyone to refund my ticket price for something that I missed because I personally was late. On multiple occasions I booked round trip tickets to NYC on The Dartmouth Coach and then needed to change my dates and/or just cancel the trip. Every Time I was either rescheduled for no additional fee or my money was just refunded to me. Every. Time. GREAT SERVICE. GREATE COMPANY. GREAT DRIVERS. No. Really. I marvel at the fantastic quality of drivers The Dartmouth Coach hires and retains. These guys (I've only ever had male drivers) are unfailingly nice, polite, nerves of damn steel in EVERY sort of driving situation. Complete and total professionals in whose driving hands I feel 110% safe every time I step onto the bus. I am SO happy and Thankful for this service. It is an amazing, amazing thing. Oh, also? $159?? Beyond worth the money. BEYOND. That wouldn't even pay for the gas and parking if you drove and the total and complete convenience and PEACEFULNESS of a trip on The Dartmouth Coach is unmatched. I'm not sure how much other people who write reviews here think their time is worth. But MY time is WELL worth $159 spent so I can rest and relax and not be stressed and uncomfortable and sleep deprived attempting to get to NYC in some other fashion...

You can make reservations if you're traveling between NYC and NH, and the pick-up spots are incredibly convenient at both ends: just a few blocks from Grand Central in midtown NYC, and the center of Darmouth's campus in Hanover, NH. The seats are spacious, and depending on what time/day you travel, it's possible to get 2 seats to yourself (great for naps). The bus has WiFi, and there are power outlets at every seat - critical for a long bus trip, especially if you want to do work or watch movies. They usually screen a movie, although probably better to rely on your Netflix queue. They stock snacks (granola bars, apples, muffins if it's a morning trip) and coffee/tea, which feels really luxurious after 4 hours sitting in traffic. No real food though, so definitely bring lunch. It's not like there are many public transit options between NYC and NH... Amtrak is an alternative, but the closest it will get you is White River Junction, VT, or Claremont, NH. The train takes over 7 hours, the bus takes approx 5 hours. The bus does cost more - Dartmouth Coach charges $150, while it's only $100 for a round-trip train ticket. I guess it depends on whether or not your time is worth money!

And there are days when the bus comes when it feels like it, the bus is packed, and traffic is bumper-to-bumper on the Bruckner. With the BxM7, you never know what you're going to get. The fare is $6.75, which is borderline overpriced. The buses have comfortable seats and charging outlets. Other than taking the local bus to the slow 6 train, the BxM7 is the only way to get from Coop City to Manhattan.

The drivers are so much nicer They extended their hours including Saturday and things that break tend to get fixed fairly quickly. They recently added outlets above you in each seat so you're able to charge your phone or tablet. For a few dollars extra you get a much nicer ride then taking the subway.

I took this years ago around Christmas time just carrying many packages I told the driver I needed to go to Lindenwood and was carrying this somewhat large video game chair. Holiday time the ride is definitely longer, the ride just took me about 50 mins in the afternoon in July to get to 34th Street and Lexington Avenue. In the mornings, I am sure it is more of a hassle to get to work in the city. Will be more willing to take this into the city or home when I am here in Queens, N.Y., each trip would be different based on the driver and / or super heavy traffic. As of July 2019, they do not seem to take coins as payment anymore so that kind of sucks but just bring your Metrocard with some money on it and enjoy the Stagecoach.
