West End

**Dined in early Spring**…read more From the moment I stepped onto the patio, I knew I was in for a treat--at least atmospherically. The outdoor seating area is genuinely one of the most refreshing spaces I've encountered in a while, striking a rare balance between urban energy and the calm of a tucked-away garden. String lights, greenery, and the gentle hum of city life in the background create a setting that feels both lively and serene, perfect for a long, unhurried sit. The service matched the setting in quality. Our server was attentive without hovering, knowledgeable about the menu, and quick to anticipate what we needed before we had to ask. Water glasses were refilled promptly, course timing was well-paced, and the overall vibe from the staff was warm and professional. Honestly, the hospitality alone could justify a return visit. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite rise to meet the rest of the experience. Nothing we ordered was bad, but nothing stood out either. Dishes were competently prepared and reasonably flavorful, but they lacked the spark or creativity that would make them memorable. It was the kind of meal where you finish eating and have a hard time recalling specific details the next day--solid, safe, but ultimately forgettable [as evidenced by how late I'm writing this review. I kept looking at the food in my phone--what I ordered and where]. If you're an AF person.....just get NA beer. Everything else tastes like juice. That said, A. Kitchen and Bar is worth a visit, especially if you're prioritizing ambiance and service over a culinary showstopper. The patio alone makes it a great spot for catching up with friends or enjoying a quiet evening out. If the kitchen can match the energy of the space and the care of the staff, this could easily become a neighborhood favorite rather than just a pleasant option.

The room looks like every Marriott that has ever been thought of, it is a real shame there is no character or anything. I did not have to park a car or anything and it is connected to the convention center which is nice but I was here for one night for work. It was clean but otherwise Unmemorable. It is also not that close to the metro but also not too far if that makes sense. The M club had salty snacks during the day and then a breakfast you have to check in for that was even less than the usual M Club breakfast, it was just pastries, eggs, bacon, and toast. Nothing else. They barely had milk. I think this is a colossal let-down. The hotel is very large but surprisingly quiet. I am no longer staying at Marriott hotels after a negative experience at a MArriott in Charlotte NC but I had stayed here before and after explore more hotels, there are better options for DC to stay at. The atmosphere was lovely, with lots of artwork and decor, and the bar area was majestic. We had a room facing the front with almost wraparound windows. We did have an issue with the bathroom sink clogging and had to call for help, but someone arrived immediately, which was great. We also needed extra towels and pillows, and those arrived promptly too. Service overall was excellent.

If you're looking for a spot that provides walkable access to central areas, great food options, inclusive hangouts and a bustling environment full of both tourists and locals, consider adding this spot to your list. Coming from a humid city built for cars, I love a good walk through the city. A stay at this hotel puts you in walking distance of the main strip of Adam's Morgan, 14th, Howard University and more. If you love Michelin star rated spots, walk to Lapis. Want stellar coffee, walk to SoleLuna, into vintage markets, walk out of the front door on the weekend where tons of vintage sellers post up offering everything from clothing to time pieces to those passing by. A renovated church, the hotel itself is an architectural wonder offering unique room sizes, museum worthy entries and plenty of space for events, markets, popups and parties. I wish I could stay in our room specifically every stay in DC. The dual lobby concept is a little confusing, but not confusing enough to discourage a future stay, especially given that the art exhibit popup on the check-in floor features gender fluid portraits. The food is more expensive than I'd like personally, but pretty tasty, and fur friends are welcome to stay and bask in the beauty alongside their owners (can you tell I'm a sucker for a dog friendly upscale hotel). I booked this room at a discounted price with my company benefits. If you're able to book at a discounted rate, I'd highly recommend giving them a try!

It's a very walkable area, accessible to DuPont, Kalorama and using public/private transportation, this is a great hub for all of the greater DC area. Upon arrival, we were quickly approached by the valet. Valet parking is about $50 a day, but well worth it, and a price common to the area. The valet was kind enough to carry our bags directly to the front desk, and we were introduced to Keanu, a friendly young gentleman who was working the reception/welcome desk. Keanu assigned us a large room with a beautiful / comfortable bed on a high floor, with views of surrounding residences / neighborhoods. He also notified us of the breakfast credit that came with our room package, a nice touch since we were able to visit their restaurant the next morning and get some yogurt / fruit bowls and beverages. Other observations about the room...the bathroom was decent sized, the room was huge, and the amenities were all modern and functional. Inside the closet was a robe, one of my favorite amenities in higher end hotels. With family in DC, I've stayed in a handful of different DC hotels, and I can't think of a better experience than this night at the Royal Sonesta. We will certainly be returning to Sonesta on our next visit to the area.

I called the reservations line (202-484-1000) and clearly explained we needed a hotel with reliable fireworks views suitable for a family with a young child--no crowds, easy access. The representative strongly assured us: * Partial fireworks view from the room * Rooftop access for viewing * Hotel located at The Wharf None of this is true. Zero visibility from the room, no rooftop for guests, and The Wharf is a 15+ minute walk away. We discovered the truth a full day before our arrival. We never checked in and immediately requested cancellation. Despite being Hilton Honors members and explaining we were lied to, the hotel refused any exception to their policy. The front desk and director showed zero empathy or willingness to help with the situation they created. This is false advertising and abysmal service. Not simply because he was running late, but because the house (castle/waiting room/party room) was absolutely filthy. I was really taken aback by a business looking like this, even if it's a business that works w/ animals. When we got there, the owner and assistant were on a ride w/ another group. Then the group we were supposed to be riding with were an hour late, so we had to wait for them. It was just annoying, although Steven (owner) was friendly. When we walked into the empty house it looked like a construction space, a hen was walking around the inside and I even saw it poop IN THE KITCHEN! Things finally turned around when I hopped on Sherman (my white horse w/ black spots). He was a greedy little thing and ate up all the grass but he was a great horse. Steven immediately put ppl on the horses and taught us while we were riding. He was a straight to it teacher and I liked that. He definitely knows what he's doing when it comes to animals. He took a bunch of pictures and videos and sent them to everyone in the group. I'm thankful to have such awesome pictures that didn't cost us extra. I'm giving 4 stars despite the filth because Steven was friendly, welcoming, and I enjoyed the experience. Tip: -don't eat there if germs bug u -don't arrive early, there's no point -yes, you're in the right spot, even though it looks a little funky on the outside
