    MK Convenience - Storefront

    MK Convenience

I have been dropping by Comebuy shortly after the pandemic had started and haven't stopped. Next…read moredoor to it is a convenience store. I rarely have a need to visit it after fetching my bubble tea. I have always been curious about what it has to offer. Last night, I put my bubble tea in my car and decided to drop in. Its name boggles my mind. The only sign that you get when you're standing in front of the store is Convenience. I thought that was its name. I went on Google Maps when I got home and it's listed as D MK Convenience. Yep, it rolls off the tongue. So smooth... NOT! Yelp has coined it MK Convenience. Frankly, I don't know anymore. Isn't it ironic that its business name isn't making the life of a customer convenient? It's clear as mud. What does D MK stand for? Dinosaurs Miss Knowledge? Don't Mock Knives? Dismiss Muttering Knights? Anyway, it's worth dropping by. For a convenience store, it offers a decent assortment of merchandise. Do you need a gift, live in downtown Markham, and don't have a car? Come here. There are assorted gift bundles to wow your special gift recipient. Otherwise, hand over some exotic chips or shrimp-flavoured chips to a friend just because would make that person happy. My weakness is popsicles. I ended up getting a Swedish Berries one. I like the gummy version. I also love this popsicle. The beverage section is impressive. You can get peanut punch by Grace, an assortment of Milkis flavours, Budweiser zero beer, Coca-Cola pure coffee, and more. I was mesmerized by the assortment. Who knew? Need Tylenol? A screwdriver? A pen? Ice? A bong? This store has you covered. If you are wondering, the bongs are by the checkout. I headed over there to pay for my item and a woman sprung from the floor as if she was an aspiring frog. It was unexpected and different. The light above the cashout area flickers. A fellow customer behind me noted that. "It feels like a disco here," he said. "Yes, minus the music," I remarked. "It's easy getting a seizure looking at it," he noted. "I hope not!" I said. The woman behind the counter was nice, but obviously wasn't into our conversation like we were. Here's hoping that she does get the light bulb changed. I paid using my debit card. I tapped on a fancy tablet, entered my cell phone number to get a text receipt, and I was all set. I thanked the woman, said goodnight to the man, and left. I had my popsicle in my car as I drove home. Yummy! Not mushy. Not too hard to chip teeth. Perfect! I'll need to come back to gorge on Danish butter cookies, Canada Dry ginger ale (they come in bottles), and Uncle Rays chipotle and jack cheese chips. I'll save getting a bong until I know what the real name of this convenience store is. (424)

V-Mart Convenience - A sticker reminder of this store being a Becker's in the past

I did something ridiculous today. I brought my car in to get winter tires. Normally, I remember to detach my house keys from my car key fob. I forgot. I got a shuttle home and realized that I didn't have my house keys. I tried to get the attention of my shuttle driver, but he was too busy looking straight ahead in the opposite direction. It's -14°C outside. As tough as I am to stay out on my door stoop, I decided to walk five minutes over to the plaza in which this store resides until my boyfriend returns home, which is just an hour. I wasn't sure whether this store accepts debit cards. I asked the kind man at the counter. It does. Yay! I was thirsty and got a Diet Pepsi. I also noticed the numerous dark chocolate Bounty bars and got one. I then paid. This store has a table in front of the lottery section. I asked him if it was okay to sit there for a bit. He was fine. I liked how understanding he was. The seats are padded. I can't complain. There are also bongs and vapes. It's amazing what I discover! The interior isn't the most attractive. However, it does have everything you expect from a corner store. To support my recollection that this store used to be a Becker's, there is still a sticker with its logo where the trash area is. I spent nearly an hour at the store. I am thankful that I passed the brief time in a warm store. (255)
