The avocado in the avocado salad were bad, brown and bland. The 2 Pho soups were gross, the other 2 plates were also terrible. A lack of protein in the meals was evident. Hardly any to be honest. Way over priced and sad to say that this place has gone from a 5 star rating roughly a year ago to the complete opposite during this visit.

We had the mussels as an app, my date the pork tenderloin and for myself the rib eye, with peppercorn sauce and fries. I had a glass if apothic red, a great pairing with my steak. I finished my meal with one of the best partridge berry pies I have ever had. A must try! The ambiance is romantic, quaint and quiet. It's decorated with dark wallpaper and woods, as a previous review stated, it needs a little tlc, but it is by no means run down. The table setting was formal, white table cloth and nice flatware and glassware. All in all I gave it 4 stars due to the fact that it's a bit pricey, the decor is a bit outdated and my date and I felt a bit squished sitting pressed up near the kitchen. A wonderful restaurant for a nice romanic getaway and a great meal!

Being in a Maritime local I decided to go with the Seafood Platter and was thoroughly impressed. People in my dinner party went with the steak and it looked damm good! Selection was a few shrimp, Salmon, Cod, Halibut with some veggies! Cooked quite nicely with a rice pilaff. Setting is in the basement of the Glynmill Hotel. The restaurant has a german or European pub feel to it! Ambiance was comfortable and somewhat quiet. The hotel looks like a German or Swiss hotel that was quite the place 40 - 50 years ago but now needs some love, money and renovations. All in all I would consider this one of the nicer places to eat in Corner Brook! Especially for fine dining!

When you get up to the order counter you can see it's served cafeteria style! When you receive your food it's really home cooking and not cafeteria food. I ordered the Jigg's "turkey dinner" dark meat on the recommendation from a true local Newfie. It was served as a heaping plate with my choice of gravy on top. What's a Jigg's turkey dinner you ask? I read online that it's a traditional Newfoundland Sunday Dinner. It's almost like a Christmas dinner complete with Turkey, mashed potato, turnips and carrots, peas and stuffing. MMMMmmmmMMM was it delicious! Also with all that gravy on top it was awesome!

They have sweets to die for in ready to take (after you pay of course) in a range of prices and types. From lemon pies to date squares. My friend and I opted for a seated meal. It was later in the evening and the place was not busy. Very casual. Seemed to be plenty of regulars there which bodes well for the quality. I opted for a spinach salad and my friend ordered a Caesar. Mine was OK... not stellar, but not awful - just fair. The caesar unfortunately was made with simulated bacon bits, powdered parm and bagged croutons... Quite awful. And really not necessary. Service was... well? I expected better. A bit surly and certainly not welcoming in any manner. I was able to get her to warm up slightly in the end but it was not a stellar experience. All together, not a terrible spot better left to lunch I think.

Therefore, I was hesitant…read moreabout ever going to the Glynmill Inn for breakfast as I'd obviously be tired-looking, poorly dressed & generally disheveled. Going to one of the fancier places in town while in this condition was less than ideal for a person who thinks everyone is always critical of everyone else. I have to admit I was wrong though. Waking up one Sunday morning & tired of the standard sub-par breakfast fare in Corner Brook, I threw caution to the wind & went to the Carriage Room for breakfast. While I wasn't looking my Sunday best, it was completely fine as the restaurant didn't have that uppity environment that I envisioned. Plenty of people had seemingly wandered down from their rooms in whatever garb they arbitrarily chose, and no one seemed to care. Now I should say that not everyone was dressed like a slob, I'm only saying that you can go to the Carriage Room relaxed, instead of struggling to breathe with your button-up done all the way to the top. Outside of the restaurant environment, the food was pretty good. My friend & I both had breakfast burritos which were adequate - nothing to write home about, but certainly nothing to complain about either; generally tasty. Lastly, the service was memorably good, as the waiter cracked appropriate jokes, checked on us several times & handled special requests with ease. I plan on returning.
