Dean Antonucci has done a great job with his business in the years that it's been at the corner of "62 and 28". Born in a former liquor store/sporting goods store, it's now in a brand new building just up the street from the old location. He can boast one of the best wine selections around. He built a temperature controlled room for some of his premium wines and has an on-staff wine expert to help you with your selections. He also has an extensive selection of beer, both domestic and foreign, and most of it kept cold. The old faces are still at the registers and you're always greeted in a friendly and helpful manner. New England Beverage is a full service lottery agent as well. Of course, they accept all returnable bottles and cans. All in all, New England Beverage and Redemption is a family-owned, locally owned business with service and great selection as their priorities. read more

New England Beverage And Redemption - the front of the store - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - North Reading, Massachusetts

I went into this place last weekend to pick up a gift bottle for a friend's birthday. I found a fabulous bottle of rum with a for sale sign under it for $38. I went to the cash register with it and some other things, and noticed they charged me $59 for the rum. When I questioned them--they said it wasn't on sale--that a much smaller bottle was for sale. The other smaller version was no where to be found and the sign was right under the row of big bottles. They said look--it says for the 175 liter--which you couldn't even read onthe bottle. Very deceptive--and I went in the next day and it still hadn't been changed. The girls behind the register were very rude about it when I pointed it out. BEWARE!!!!! very deceptive signs and pricing. read more

I live only 3 minutes away from this liquor store, so to me the only thing i've lost by not coming back is the convenience of it being so close. EVERY time I go there, without fail I get harassed by the older men behind the counter. I understand that only being 21 they need to check my ID, but each time I walk up to the counter, with my ID already out and ready they proceed to ask me about the information on my ID, as well as flashing it with a LED light and making comments about how they don't serve "children". mind you, I come to this store often enough that they make comments about seeming me a lot, so why be rude every time I come in?? they've lost my business. read more

Don't EVER shop at New England Beverage! Worst managed liquor retailer in the area. Usually understaffed -- once again today only one person in the store (on a Saturday!) -- and their customer service is nonexistent -- frankly, just downright rude. Today, a group of us waited over 30 minutes for the redemption bin to be empty and the one staff member would not take a break from the front of the store to empty the machines. He finally told us just to leave and that he was just closing redemption (on the second day back from re-opening) ... leave I (and the rest of us) will ... I used to give all my business to New England Beverage ... don't mind driving down the street now to East Gate Liquors! read more

Just kind of a gross place seems run down and uncared for would avoid for anything other than a hep c shot

The bottle return is now automated, wouldn't recognize coke cans or Wachuset ale bottles. This place is losing the family owned touch.

I used to have a good review up here for this place but I've had a few bad experiences that have totally flipped my opinion of the place. Firstly, they have replaced the bottle redemption area people with machines. They're dirty and they don't work well. They used to take everything and now they only take what they sell and even that is a crap shoot. Its gone from the best place to get your deposit back to one of the worst. Secondly, some of the regular staff is extremely rude. Not all of them, but a few in particular seem to be irked that you're there. They also refused to honor a sale price for me months ago that they mistakenly posted on the shelf. I let it slide at the time but the place is just pointless now. I won't be coming back. read more

I have shopped here for over eight years. Recent change in ownership and staff has resulted I'm zero customer service. Asked for assistance with redemption machine, clerk reacted as if I was inconveniencing him by being there. He also told me that redemption makes no money so they don't care. They just lost my business. read more

NE Bev is great. They are extremely friendly and helpful, never intimidate people who are new to wine and need a suggestion. They have an excellent wine selection (although the French section is a tad weak) and have been very helpful in getting me special order wines, even when they had to pull some strings and go outside their normal distributors. They offer a 20% discount on full cases of wine if you buy in volume. They have regular wine tastings too. If you like Scotch, holy cow they have a fantastic single malt selection! Prices are good. Joe and Nicole in particular have been extremely helpful to me with getting special wines ordered. read more

Great store. Their wine recommendations have been terrific. I have also had them help me pick out some craft beers for gifts with good reviews. The store was well staffed over the holidays and the lines moved quickly. read more

I have to write another review for this place. It is so nasty in the redemption. The poor cashier had to come down to empty machines. Also she was trying to bring in a truck. What kind of retail business leaves just one person on to do everything. The machine are so gross. They should be reported. That was your last shot for me. Can't believe how you treat your employees. read more

A while back 2 CPAs bought this place. Ever since its gone down hill. They used to give the kids in town jobs doing bottle returns. Now they've replaced them with machines. Now according to the "Manager" the machines have never made a mistake so when I didn't get my $.50 or a $1 or $1.50 ( I wasn't counting them the machine was !) they wouldn't give me my $.50 or $1 or whatever. This is why CPAs and Accountants get a bad rap. Had to call police (non-emergency #) to get ANY of my $$ even the ones I had a ticket for. Genius behind the counter suggested I bring my beer cans to Stop & Shop. Umm genius they don't take beer cans there! Guess I know why he's stocking beer. read more

Redemption should be removed from the name. Nothing special at this place, just a booze store. Used to have old school redemption with people helping, now it's machines with selective brands only, hey mass 5 cents redemption is 5 cents... No need to go here when other stores are closer. read more

I bought mixed cases of Champagne and wine recently from NE Beverage. One bottle of white wine was bad. The cork was dry and the wine was brown and musty. No big deal - it happens. But when I brought the wine back to replace it, the person at the store wouldn't do it. He called his manager and then asked me to write my name and phone number so the manager could call me back in a day or two. I was in the wine business for 30 years. It is standard to replace "corked" bottles of wine. I am going to call the importer to get the wine replaced. But NE Beverage has lost me as a customer for life. They get their money back from the distributors and/or importers. There was no reason for them to treat me the way they did. Tip: Go anywhere else for better service. read more

Dirty,dirty..place. Yes they are very over priced. It was hard for me to find someone to help me with wine. Used to be the place to go to not anymore. I wish the old crew was there. I will be moving on. Won't be going back. read more

I went in this evening to return bottles and cans- and buy some beer and wine for the weekend. I left horrified. First, the bottle return area was sticky and filthy. Second, when the glass bottle machine started beeping and saying it was full the girl that was behind the counter was to busy hugging her boyfriend to help so I redeemed my plastic and cans while I waited.... Finally, had to again go to front desk and ask for help.... her response..... You need to shake it.... There is no one here. My response... shake it?? shake what the machine?? No the bins......... So I went back- gave the machine a shake- opened up the underneath and shook the bins.... filled with broken glass..... had to get a piece of cardboard to move the glass. The girl then came back and gave me the.... Oh well... there is nothing I can do line.... I should have never been anywhere near that broken glass and I blame myself for that... but who else has she told to do that??? That is a lawsuit waiting to happen. If you are going to call yourself a redemption center then maintain the machines, keep it clean and have the appropriate staff. I redeemed my slips and went down the street to First Stop Liquors where I was treated respectfully and made my purchases there. I will not return to this establishment. read more

Needed to buy two cases of beer and two cases of wine for Sunday. Was going to go to NE Beverage after the first game of the Final Four but went elsewhere because they close their re-cycling counter three hours before they close their store. Made my purchase elsewhere read more

I'm sorry but the age of Micro Brewery is here and what better way to drive people away from tasting new and exciting beers is to way over price it. My favorite beer is Founders Curmudgeon Old Ale. This beer has been dropping in price for the last 4 years(due to growth of the brewing facility and better and more efficient distribution to the east coast) but not at New England Beverage. Usually as demand increases, prices drop. They charge 33% more than the going price. This is also true of their single bottle English Ales Like Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale. Sorry fellas but I am not paying almost double what everyone else is charging and when I ask why the beer is so expensive, they give me some line about "some beers cost more to make". This statement is true but does not answer my question since I can drive less than 3 miles and save enough money over 1 year to buy a few cases of my favorite Micro Brewed Beer. Good luck fellas, I see you do have a great wine selection. read more
