While the original market company dates all the way back to the 1880s on East Market Street, the "New" Eastern Market opened its current doors on Memory Lane in 1955 after a fire destroyed their previous temporary home at the White Rose Arena. Walking down the aisles, you can feel that multi-generational legacy--many of the shareholders and vendors running the stands today are direct descendants of the families who started it all back in '55. Incredible Vendor Variety The selection here is unmatched. It's an incredible mix of local mainstays, from the incredible smoked meats at S. Clyde Weaver and Godfrey Bros. to fresh, vibrant hauls at Hoober Produce. Only open on Fridays. Tons of butchers, fresh vegetables stands, bakeries, candy stands and lunch stands. Parking can be chaotic especially at rush hour. A staple in East York for years. It gets so packed that it gets hard to walk through because it's not quite big enough for all the stands inside. read more

New Eastern Market - Farmers Market Near Me - York, Pennsylvania

I've often passed this market coming back from Maryland heading home and always wanted to stop but it was never open. This past Friday I took a vacation day to go to a grand opening in York which afforded me the opportunity to finally check them out. First impressions were it's much larger than how it looks from the street. I was very impressed. It's well lit and has tons of vendors, mostly featuring fresh and prepared foods but there were a few stands with other offerings. A grannie stand featuring crocheted and hand made items had cute inventory that was very affordable. I bought two hand made fancy ribbon hair barrettes for my grands at $1.75 that would easily sell on Etsy for over $5 each! Another vendor sold essential oils, spice blends, and homeopathic remedies. Both wonderful vendors however food is the star of the show. DO COME HUNGRY! Walk around first to check out everything before you make your selection - which will be very difficult. Plan on taking some goodies home. I bought food from several stands since I couldn't decide. The pasta salad stand is not to be missed! If you see something that intrigues you feel free to ask for a sample. Most are happy to accommodate. Some things to know: Bring cash, not all vendors take plastic. If shopping for produce bring a list - it's easy to get distracted by the colorful varieties they offer. Be open to trying something new! Only open Friday till 6 pm, although most of the vendors I spoke with said they closed around 4 pm Parking is a mess (more on that below) Some things that prevented me from giving them 5 stars: The limited hours and the fact that some vendors close before the closing time. This is definitely a negative as myself personally will never be able to visit unless I take off work. At the least they should follow the lead of similar markets like Roots and Green Dragon and stay open till 9 pm to attract the folks that work 9-5. Parking: it was here, there, and everywhere. Very tight and hard to secure. I had to drive around until someone left to claim their spot. Getting out was problematic as many didn't adhere to the directional markers and were going the wrong way making for a tighter squeeze. If you're fortunate enough to have off on a Friday they're worth a visit. read more

This market has every stand you can imagine. Every stand was filled and open. Fruit and vegetables, pretzels, cakes and pies, meats, candy, and knicks knacks are just a few options available. There's a stand selling hot meals (mostly potpie and soup) and tables to eat at. The only issues are it's only open Fridays, gets very crowded, and the parking lot fills up. read more

This is a decent market, but parking is awwwwwful! I wish there was a little more variety as for such a big place there were like a dozen things and then simply repeats of those ideas (several apple and fruit stands, several very similar deli stands, etc). All in all not a terrible place and I did pick up some apples for cheap on my way to camping. read more

Cute country farm market with several different meat stands, fruits and veggies from local, organic minded farmers and also the Amish who have more of a grocery store selection, as well as crafts, dog treats, honey and beeswax products, spices and teas, baked goods, and plenty more! It was a fairly quiet afternoon when I went in January, I imagine it's much busier in the summer. I will be back. read more

This is a tradition for me every Friday. Get my Meats at Kiefers. Order my Italian Sub across from the Butcher Shop from Kiefers Sub/ Sandwich stand . Levi and the staff here are great! Always prepare the Subs perfectly, then across from them is Byers Bakery. Their creations are delicious. Then I head to the front of the building to Aunt Lydias for my Soft Pretzels. My 85 y/o Parents will no longer by the others. It's the butter! Yum! Then to Karen's Konfections for popcorn. My favorite is with the Dark Chocolate drizzle. I love Eastern Market. The market in downtown York, Central Market, has more stalls geared towards artisan prepared foods. Eastern Market is only open on Fridays and that is where you can find local farmers selling produce, flowers, and even honey. There are several local butchers selling fresh meat cut to order. Good selection of vendors like the other markets, but not huge so manageable. However, unless you're at one of the restaurants, there are no tables for other takeout options, so one less star for that. Supporting your local economy was never so sweet! Lots of delicious beverages, confections, meats, produce, and meals prepared to order. I really like that there is something for everyone, it's generally pretty affordable, there are places to sit and eat, and that there's usually someone cranking out some tunes while you relax and people watch. Don't miss Maggie's Gyro for quite a selection tasty of Middle Eastern cuisine including vegan options. She's so sweet and friendly, always offering samples of new things to try and packing extras into our order. Her olive oil based potato salad is excellent. Gyros are wonderful and in a thinner pita wrap which I prefer. read more

I love New Eastern Market. My only complaint about this place is it is only open on Fridays. This market has a ton of vendors making it easy to find whatever food items you may be looking for. I am a particular fan of Bair's Chicken and the selection of produce stands. read more

New Eastern Market is an excellent farmer's market for the York area, and it is frikkin huge to boot. You're going to be overwhelmed the second you step inside, so make sure you have your walking shoes on and start in. Once I started coming here, I stopped going to the grocery store for almost everything. You want produce, you'll get it from any number of tables, fresh from the farm. Need meat? There are butchers all over the place here - my favorite is Godfrey Brothers, but there are probably 10 or so butchers total. There are two places I really enjoy getitng my lunchmeat from, an awesome bread baker, and more baked goods than you can shake a stick at. If the bread lady has her supply wiped out, the deli by the inside fish monger has fresh ciabatti that is a dream to eat. You'll also want to check out Lancaster's Best Pickles. The pickle ladies are super nice, and you won't be able to stop eating the pickles. Like Central Market, New Eastern Market has plenty of prepared food vendors and a seating area. It might be the newer market, but it's certainly worth visiting. Attached to the market is a restaurant that I have not had the chance to check out, and a seafood store. The seafood I've picked up from there has been great so far, and they are very friendly. read more

This was my first experience going to this farmer's market since I am brand new to the area. I came here from Boston and this was a different experience for me and I can't wait to go back. I stopped at the little restaurant and everything was homemade I had the boiled chicken pot pie and it was delicious. There was everything that you could imagine from homemade salsa to sausage. There were a couple of places that I would suggest double checking the fruit before you buy it, but everything else was great. I bought some homemade pickles, chips, and salsa. You could try almost everything before you but it which I thought was wonderful. I don't love to commit until I know for sure I will like something. I am also a firm believer in supporting small local businesses and I can't wait to return. If you are in the area and need some groceries or just want to stop for some great food I high recommend this place. read more

Still 5-star worthy, but I've now been able to try out the pickle place mentioned in another review, and the hydroponic lettuce. Oh, wow...:) Sensenig's remains fantastic (and yes, the hot dogs are indeed from another butcher). I was disappointed that the bread place was closed since the hydroponic stand and Sensenig's yielded the makings for the best TBLT (Turkey-Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato) sandwiches ever. You can't put that on commercial bread! Oh---and for the stars off folks based on days open: real farmer's markets usually aren't open more than 1 or 2 days a week. Roots in Manheim is only open on Tuesdays, although Green Dragon is open Friday and Saturday. read more

Place is very filthy, sell lots of EXPENSIVE Meats/Fruits/Vegetables except you can get HUGE GMO vegetables in season. I'm talking HUMONGOUS! I eat a lot of Organic foods, preservative free etc and they are highway robbery with their prices. I can't believe people pay those kinds of prices. Most things start 10.00 a lb! I wanted to buy ground pork only to discover they add crap to it ughhh i just want to make my own sausage free of additive stuff. I'm not supporting local farmers that are out to bilk me of all that I have. I'd happily support THEM over any other store if they had competitive prices. $6 bucks a gallon for raw milk, really? I have a friend that only pays a few dollars! Very few vendors of much else except one herb/spice store (one seems to have left, sadly), plants at good prices, some jewelry and knicknacks but not much, home made healthcare and cosmetics/soaps - fast food is expensive, you can get bakery deals at the end of the day - lots of cheese choices for high prices, most seem possibly imported Some credit card vendors (very few) Accepts SNAP MOSTLY CASH ONLY read more

We go to a lot of the Southern PA Amish Market and this is my favorite. We usually go to Shrewsbury Market, which we love, but alas it is small with only about a dozen vendors. This place is bigger, with more vendors, including lots of produce people, and clean, easy to get to, and good parking. We like the bigger Roots market too but that place is HUGE. New Eastern is easy to navigate, but still with lots and lots of options. Wish it was open more than one day a week, but at least it's a Friday! read more

I've only been in here once, but here's what I have to say about it. It is a big place with a variety of different stands to choose from, and they had samples of different food. There were also stands for lemonade and things to snack on-- it almost reminded me of being at the fair. If you need something specific in here, I'm sure they'll have it. read more

Not happy about the lack of customer protection. We have shopped here for years and were always happy with quality of produce, meats etc. When CoVid 19 first came on the scene, they were thoughtful enough to require masks/social distancing. The last 2 weeks they have changed their policy to only recommending masks. So disappointed that they no longer want to protect the public. I wear my mask to protect the vendors, but they have no desire to protect the customer who pays for their booth. Will be looking elsewhere for my produce. Would rather pay more than to bring home something I didnt pay for........... like a virus. read more

I do so enjoy markets. My parents gave me the address to this place and since we were in the area decided to give it a shot. It is quite large and has a huge variety of stands. One star off for it only being open on Fridays, however I suppose that is probably part of it's charm. We came here for the cheese filled beef sticks and walked out with a bunch of other goodies. It's a shame that this place has such a limited schedule and I don't live in York, I would definitely enjoy making this a regular stop. read more

Oh my goodness! Walking into Eastern Market is like walking into a bit of heaven. While Central Market is 80% prepared foods and 20% veggies/meats, Eastern Market is the reverse! So much incredible produce with multiple vendors for everything! The building looks small from the front, but is actually huge. We arrived at 5pm so half the vendors were packed or packing, definitely recommend going earlier. I cannot tell you how happy I am to have found this place only 2 weeks after moving to the area! This place is rockin'!! There is a stand right near the front that has the BEST apple fritters I've ever had in my life. Big, crispy, glazed, raisin laden hunks of absolute heaven! The best and freshest ever. The meats are all fresh and juicy looking. Vegetables abound. PLenty of stuff to find here. No need to ever go to a grocery store if you come here. The connected restaurant "Cindy's Restaurant" serves GREAT breakfast for a price that you just don't see anymore! My order consisted of eggs benedict (2 pieces), homefries, and coffee all for $5. Big portions and very fresh. The ham on the eggs benedict was a nice thick slice of grilled ham....not some anemic lunchmeat ham that you might see somewhere else. Great local produce as well as meats and cheeses. A lot of local farms and butchershops on premisis. Also a lot of baked goods as well as prepared foods. Doesn't get any better in York, only open of Fridays, parking lot poorly designed as is traffic flow, and the lunch hour tends to be the busiest time of the day. If its farmed locally odds are you'll find it here. A great location for organic produce from Brogue Hydroponics. read more
