The bar is perhaps a little uninspiring and you may find that you HAVE to use the beer garden if you're not eating as all the tables seem to be reserved for those eating (I did notice that you only have to order tea or coffee to qualify for a table). It's the nature of a hotel next to a marina in the Lake District that it's got a good few weekend yachting types so hopefully you know your jib from your boom.

The two bar meals areas were pretty full, so I ate outside. This is in July. I only had to wait four minutes for my order to arrive, beautifully cooked haddock in batter, proper chips and mushy peas with mint.(see the photo!) I thought that it was reasonable at £7.95 and one of half a dozen cooked lunches at that price. They also do a two course meal (for the over 60s) for £5.95. There are also a good range of lighter options for lunch. Puddings however were disappointing, they sounded great, but were £5.45. One of the things which I should have born in mind is that, because it is such a tourist hot spot, normal prices are generally suspended. As a result the main courses were cheap, but the puddings the usual!! I enjoyed my bitter and there was a good selection of real ales, and also wines. The Queen's Head also does bed and breakfast. It costs £45 per person per night at the moment, according to the village website.

Our room was wonderfully clean (and I'm a stickler on cleanliness!) and the bed was so comfortable, especially after a long drive. It was such a comfortable and clean place to lay our heads for the evening. The hotel has a restaurant that I would also recommend. Breakfast was incredible - one of the first hotel breakfasts where I haven't had to douse in pepper haha. Well seasoned and well cooked, high quality ingredients. Jonathan is a wonderful chef. My husband said the hollandaise was one of the best he's ever had. I'd recommend stopping by for sure, and don't miss breakfast! The building is beautifully renovated with classy modern decor, airy and bright. We booked the most expensive room, a lake view room with balcony for 250 British Pounds per night, including breakfast. The balcony overlooks fields used for sheep grazing. We enjoyed being close to all the birds and the flock of 20 to 30 sheep. The man who cared for the sheep had a dog who helped round up the animals. It felt like we were living on a working farm, and we loved it. The room was spacious and modern with a very nice bathroom. The in-room coffeemaker was a fancy model, too complicated for me to use, even after the staff gave me two demonstrations on how to brew the coffee. Apparently my Masters degree is not adequate for this task. In the room we could clearly hear every step people took in the room above, but luckily it was a quiet couple in that room, so not a big issue. The dining facilities and bar at the hotel are beautiful and spacious, with lots of windows, views, and natural light. The decor is modern and tasteful and there is an open kitchen, making it more interesting. Breakfast was done very well, offering a combination of buffet service and waitress service. You can eat indoors or outside on a lovely patio. It should be noted that views of the lake are minimal. You can only see a very small portion of the lake from the hotel, and there is no lake access from the hotel property. Nevertheless, we were more than satisfied with the views -- mountains and farm fields, all lush and green. The hotel is not in the town center. It is on the edge of the village, just a 2-minute walk to shops and restaurants. I highly recommend this hotel.

The scenery was absolutely breathtaking and our hikes were amazing. (Helm Crag, Silver How & Easdale Tarn) The staff at the Daffodil were friendly and helpful. Our stay included breakfast which included a great selection of hot and cold items. Our room was a corner unit with a fabulous view and it was clean and well maintained. Unfortunately, I didn't have any spa treatments but I did take advantage of the pool, sauna and steam room. Fabulous! The only strange thing is, if your coming from your room in your bathing suit and robe, you do have to walk into the lobby to access the spa area. Just a little odd I thought. I honestly cannot day enough nice things about this place and I can't wait to visit again. If I could teleport back to any point in time in our entire vacation it would be to Grasmere. Now, at the foot of Grasmere Lake, less than a football field away from William Wordsworth's Dove Cottage and Lake Grasmere, is the exquisite hotel and spa named for the poet's favorite flower. I'm a two-time English degree holder, so I'm a sucker for little touches of literature. I loved their interior pictures and artwork ... Ronald Dahl book covers, Beatrix Potter stuff, and, of course, Wordsworth. The rooms are amazing, the food is amazing, you won't want to leave after a spa treatment. It is EXPENSIVE. The thing that sets Daffodil apart is the "at home" feel you get ... you don't just feel like a pampered guest, you feel like part of the family. It reminds me of the first luxury hotel I stayed at in the UK ... the Randolph in Oxford ... it's a place you wouldn't mind spending Christmas at because you feel at home. Anything that gets people to Grasmere, and to the history of Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter, is tops in my book. We ordered it medium rare and it came cooked to medium. Prior to that we broke from English tradition, and ordered a very nice fruit & cheese plate for an appetizer. At the end of the meal, their sticky toffee pudding was quite rich and among the top four I've had in my life. They have a very lovely outdoor setting, complete with comfortable tables, that allow for glorious views of Windermere, both the town and the body of water. Angel Inn also has a guest lounge area, with comfortable sofas and chairs that allow you to warm yourself by their wood burning fireplace. It is within easy walking distance to the post office, co-op, Laundrette, and mere. It is a 1.6 mile walk, all downhill, from the Windermere train station.
