It was a lovely day and the patio outside of Yewdale was full of people, looking very inviting! It was so full in fact that we ended up being seated inside, which was not a problem. For international travelers like myself, note that you don't have a server come to your table, but instead you head up to the bar to put in food and drink orders. A few brews for the guys, a glass of wine for my mom-in-law, and a gin spritzer cocktail for me all went over well! As for the food: I opted for the sweet potato and chickpea curry and wow was it flavorful! Full of spices, but not too spicy. It came with mango chutney (my fave), a coconut yogurt of sorts, and plenty of rice. A filling dish for sure. I also had a bite (or three) of my husband's margarita pizza. It was tasty and the crust was perfection. Not surprising seeing as they have a big wood-fired oven that the pizzas are made in. The fish n chips were rated top notch by my in-laws as well. We were appreciative of the high chair for my son, the friendly staff, and the fact that this place is dog-friendly because there were plenty of cute pups around! They were served in a bed of what I'm guessing is pan fried kale. Crispy and tasty. Good selection from the local brewery as well!

The food is good and probably best value in Coniston. However the real ale is not well kept though…read morethere is a good selection. The layout is a little strange particularly with the specials board in a position where you have to stare above a table that is a bit intrusive when occupied. We found the general atmosphere a little hostile to non locals with the other halve thinking the foul language was too common a feature. Otherwise I thought it was comfortable though a little false with the what looks like an impressive cooking range not being cast iron rather pressed steel. Service was pretty good.

I also ordered the chicken liver pate and the chef's burger. Amazing the food were pretty good. The patty in the burger was very tender and juicy. The only part I didn't like was the service. We settled on Blackbird & Bluebird ales. Both strong but likeable. We decided to both have the Cumberland sausage with mash and green beans. The green beans where hot but barely cooked the rest was ok for a pub meal. Our overall experience was not special but nice to see lots of images of Donald Campbell & Bluebird. A very traditional Lakeland pub.

Hosting an international wedding with 60 plus guests is no small feat for this hotel. The grounds are heavenly, the food delicious, the alcohol, always flowing, the scones amazing. They made us feel at home and our wedding went beautifully. We are so happy we decided to have our wedding abroad, and it's people like this that make me want to move to England.
