We recently signed up with Home Helpers to assist my 86 year old mother with cleaning, meals,…read morelaundry etc. Peter DiMaria, the franchise owner, came to our home and we developed a plan of what type of care was needed. He assured us his company could meet our needs and said to call him directly if any problems with the service occurred. We started out with one day a week for three hours with Kathy who did a good job. However, when we needed to add more days , the care providers sent were substandard. The young woman sent on 31 Dec arrived and was coughing continuously. She stated she had a bad cold for the past several days. She did not put a mask on until my mother asked if she had one. My mother later asked her to bring up two small area rugs for the bathroom that were hanging on the drying rack in the basement. She came up with the old rugs that were in front of the washing machine. When it was pointed out that these were not the right rugs, she said she didn't know what is a drying rock. My mother then just told her to put the rugs back. After she left the house, my mother noticed a light was left on in the basement and went down to turn it off. She also found the door was left open to the unheated basement. I called the own, Peter DiMaria, told him what occurred, asked why they would send a sick caregiver to care for an elderly person and asked to replace her. On 7 Jan 20, Home Helpers sent a new person who arrive 45 minutes late and by her own admission was a heavy smoker and reaked of smoke. My mother immediately asked her to leave before it triggered an asthma attack. I immediately called Peter and instead of being alarmed and wanting to correct the problems, he just said he didn't think this is going to work. I immediately cancelled service with the company. I believe the home care provided by Home Helpers was very poor and actually put my mother at risk of getting sick or falling. The franchise owner, Peter, states the people working for him are all his employees and well trained, but the reality is he doesn't have enough quality people. I would not recommend this company for any home care for your loved one.

Peter is a warm, caring, professional owner and mananger who expects excellence from his staff in a kind, caring and professional way!! He has ALWAYS been very accommendating to my parent's needs!! His staff is always timely, kind and compassionate. My parents have loved everyone that has been involved in their care. Home Helpers goes ABOVE and BEYOND to provide excellent home care to the elderly client in need. I would HIGHLY RECCOMMEND this organization to anyone in need of quality, compassionate, caring and loving home care services!!! p.s. I am a daughter and Occupational Therapist who has worked in the health care field for many, many years....I love the way my parents have been cared for by Home Helpers Staff!
