Sam had a great veloute soup with chickory on the side, and I enjoyed my grilled slice of cheese as well as delicious roasted lamb chops. Nafisa's tagliatteli with truffles was a special treat, and Nancy's ravioli stuffed with cheese and turnip greens was especially good. Soraya enjoyed her rigatoni carbonara; I had a taste as the end and could confirm its quality. I did not try Abey's gnocchi with four cheeses but he and Soraya have demanded that their parents pick up gnocchi to bring home to Zanzibar -- they have added a new dish to their favorites. Panna cotta for dessert was a nice finish It was a bit of a bummer to be charged extra for two small pours of olive oil to eat with our bread. But that is my only criticism of the meal

Warm and bright, beautifully appointed. And the food was wonderful. I had grilled lamb, redolent of rosemary and with great crisping. My partner had fagioli all'uccelletto. Man, was that delicious. Such rich depth of flavor: better than steak! The staff were excellent, the wine was great. And the price was amazingly reasonable. A very happy memory of Orvieto.

We arrived a little later for lunch without a reservation and we were told the wait would be about 20 minutes. We were seated in 10 minutes and the wait staff was very helpful keeping us out of the sun during one of the hottest days of the summer. For appetizers we enjoyed a fresh caprese salad, a cheese board and mixed bruschetta plate. All of these were well-prepared, fresh and a great way to start the meal. Continuing with our plan to eat local specialties, we got two dishes with Umbricelli, a local fresh pasta, one with a sauce of roasted tomatoes and the other with tomatoes and garlic. Our other dinner guest had cinghiale prepared alla cacciatore. This was our first time having slow roasted wild boar, and it will not be the last. We had other plans for dessert, so we will have to wait until we return to Orvieto to try theirs and I am certain that it will be fantastic.

Communication was a tad difficult as our Italian isn't great, but the staff (maybe owners?) really try their best to communicate with you. They were so kind. Now on to the good stuff- the food! We had the asparagus and pecorino appetizer and it was to die for. I had the fava bean pasta and my husband had the wild boar ragu. Both were exceptional. House white Orvieto wine was really delicious. We had no room for dessert. It was one of the best meals of this trip to Italy, and if ever in the area again we will make a point to eat here again.

We were hunkering for something other than pasta, pizza or steak, so had the delicious hamburger with pecorino cheese, served perfectly rare (20). It came with nice French fries and hit the spot. We were seated next to the owner, a pleasant New Yorker with the cutest dachound Julietta. The restaurant is a bit more expensive than the trattorias but well worth it.

While the beef patty itself is exceptional, what elevates this dish is the generous layer of melted pecorino cheese on top. The truffle butter pasta is equally outstanding. The pasta tastes unmistakably fresh and handmade, with rich truffle butter coating every strand perfectly. Together, these two dishes easily satisfy two diners, especially since the burger comes with a side of fries. La Bandita Townhouse is a must-visit when in Pienza. Just remember to make a reservation in advance, particularly for dinner service.
