Tahoe Regional Planning Agency - Lake Tahoe's clarity improved in 2012 for the second year in a row, and its waters were the clearest in 10 years.

The process is of course very complex with many regulations. But, I can honestly say that I am a happy constituent who felt well served. The entire process from application submission to permit was very smooth and transparent. Inspite of the overwhelming workload that the agency is facing, the team at the TRPA responded promptly and professionally. I typically received a response from a representative via email or phone call within 24 hours, an amazing turnaround. Automated emails and notifications as my application progressed helped make sure I was never left wondering if things were moving forward. Most importantly, the responses were extremely helpful, with much of the information already published in detailed documents available online and very accurate. For example, much of what I needed was in what is called the "Code of Ordinances" but because this is a very large document, it can seem overwhelming. Instead of just citing the code, the planners would point me to the specific sections. The entire application process was handled remotely online and was very straightforward and easy to follow. They even helped me when I needed accomodations with the payment timing for the fees. If the goal of such an organization is to help all who want to enjoy the resources of this region do so responsibly, I think that is what the TRPA is accomplishing.

Okay here is what makes this a 5-star rating vs a 1-star rating…read more It all depends on who you get as a clerk. I had a very high fine for being one month late in getting insurance. The first clerk I saw, told me I needed to show proof of insurance, otherwise, I was SOL. So I left and went to my daughter's, where I could use her computer and print out the info. (I live too far away to do that on the same day) Went back to court showed my info and the new clerk I got told me that unfortunately, I was a month late, however.... she directed me to the computer and printer they had on site. She told me there was a form available if you are having trouble paying and it would be a hardship for you. So I filled out the form, printed it, and brought it to the third clerk I saw that day. He was also very helpful, and picked out from the paperwork I gave him, what the judge would need to see. So after all is said and done, I did get a substantial reduction in fine. Thank you to the two clerks who helped me out. The first gal, well maybe needs more training or not be hating on those of us who screwed up and didn't, fly right the first time. Heads up people. If you cannot afford the fine, go on the court system website and you will find a form for if you can't afford to pay. It will list options you can choose from and just ask for reasons.

I checked the website almost every week until it show up and finally it appear at the end of July 2017, I paid it right away, but the only confirmation I have is a receipt basically saying "case will be released when payment is received", no other communication or contact whatsoever afterward. The deadline to pay the ticket is at the end of August 2017, so I was assuming my case had been released after I pay it in July, but it was not. THEY SENT MY DEBT TO COLLECTION COMPANY WHICH INCREASE MY SPEEDING TICKET FROM $281 TO $561, UNBELIEVABLE! NOT ONE ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO CONTACT ME ABOUT THE PROBLEM. When I contact the court the only thing they tell me was how sorry they felt about my situation, but no attempt to help at all; basically, they just want to finish the phone call asap to get rid of me. I serve in the military and was preparing for a deployment, so I didn't have much time to deal with it. When I was at my deployment location I have to collect a lot of documents to prove to them I was attempting to pay my ticket, but for some reason it didn't go through. I even contacted my bank and they say there was no record of attempt to withdraw money at the time I pay the ticket. So I wrote a letter and gather all the necessary documents and send it to the collection company so they can send those docs to the court to review my request. 2 months pass by and I contacted the collection company again and they say the court deny my request. To sum it all up, I end up paying approx $300 more for ticket in which I took full responsibility for, did my diligent, checking up on the ticket and pay it right way when it appear on the website. But for some fucking reason my payment did not go through and they have no effort to find out why and refuse to accept my effort in researching the reason behind it. No support receiving whatsoever from their staff or even the clerk; especially the clerk, she such an idiot, she have very limited knowledge about her job and very unprofessional in the way she talk to me.

A nice local library worth visiting!…read more The children's library section is HUGE! My kids spent a couple of hours here and didn't want to leave. They learned how to search for books, and were excited with the selections the library had to offer. It's clean, comfortable, the staff is friendly and helpful. Will return!

This is an El Dorado County library branch very close to the 50 HWY going through South Lake Tahoe. We enjoy visiting libraries wherever we go because they all offer different things and show the spirit of the local community, this library was no exception. It's in an older building, but its 1980s architecture fits the forest and woods surroundings of this part of SLT. A little walk down history lane tells that the plans for this library began in 1978, and after several years of construction, this 12,000-square-foot library has its grand opening in 1983 and has been serving the people of SLT at this location overlooking Lake Tahoe ever since. Inside you'll find the kids area on the left side as you walk in. It's older but clean, neat, and organized with many short shelves filled with colorful books for little ones and waiting to be read and enjoyed. The kids computers are older for sure, so you won't find the latest tech here, but they seem sufficient. The front desk is right up in the middle of the lobby as you enter the library and the staff are friendly, cheerful, and ready to help you with whatever you might need related to information and finding books and resources. The right side of the library are where the grown up section takes up the rest of the building, with quite a few computers for first come reserved use for those who might not have access to one at home. I even noticed a small pantry for those in need. There's also some paintings by local artists in the foyer area where there's also a small friend of the library bookstore. The bathrooms are also out close to the entrance in the foyer. They were clean but need some updating. Overall, I had a pleasant visit at this faithfully kept and maintained 43 year old library. The outdoor musical garden area and of course the beautiful surroundings with the tall red woods all over the library grounds make for an incredibly calming and rustic natural space for a stroll throughout or reading on the several benches right outside the library. I definitely want to visit again.

Ms. Cauley ask my friend "Emergency Contact" "If she was sure she wanted to sign up for that program"! In addition, my daughter has been bullied at this school and on the bus and Ms. Cauley informed me she didn't like to "Label kids as bullies". So I ask her what name she would like to use? I call an Ace an Ace and a Spade a Spade. Nothing has been done about any of the bullyings including one incident by a substitute teacher which I was told was going to be investigated. I am disgusted at the lack of professionalism, morals, value's and standards I have been shown thus far by Mrs. Cauley and I am not disappointed to see her leave. Hopefully, her replacement will be much less pompous and arrogant! I don't think this is a protocol to check parents emergency contacts. In my opinion, Mrs. Cauley should dress more professional, try to be less insecure and keep her nose out of people's personal business! The message Mrs.Cauley sends to our young girls is "Don't bother reporting any incidents of being Bullied and/or Racial slurs, as nothing will ever be done about it anyway." You are supposed to be a role model to our children. Our children should not be afraid to go to you for anything. Shame on you Mrs. Cauley!
