Had an extremely disappointing experience getting my bike tuned up at Bicycle Ambulance. I dropped…read moreoff my bike and the store said they'd call me in about a week when it was ready. Over a month later, I still hadn't heard back, so I called the store, but didn't get any answer. Two days later, when I'm out of town, the store calls me and says it's "absolutely urgent" that I come by and pick up my bike because it's taking up space in the store. I explained that I was out of town and couldn't pick it up that week, and that this was the first time I was hearing about the bike being finished, even though it had been more than 30 days. The person on the phone said "Oh, they should have called you, it's been done for weeks." The next week, when I'm back in town, I call the store verify the hours and tell them I'm coming to pick up the bike that day. At 3:00p, I stop by, and the store is complete empty -- door's closed and locked, and the lights are off. I call the store number a dozen times, but no answer. I stand outside for 20 minutes before a worker comes from down the street and unlocks the door, and he gives no explanation or apologies for why the store has been closed when I tell him I've been waiting for 20 minutes. When we get inside, he gives me the bike (which, I admit, was very nicely done), and when I go to pay, he can't find the ticket to ring me up -- it takes another five minutes to go into the back to dig around before he finds the ticket and I can pay. TLDR: While the bike tune up was good, the customer service experience was atrocious. Would not recommend Bicycle Ambulance when there are many other options around.

Best bike shop around... and they are dog friendly!…read more This Santa Monica bike shop is located on the corner of Broadway and 25th street with its own parking lot. It had a great selection of quality bicycles at reasonable prices. They stock Trek, Cannondale, Santa Cruz, Colnago, Pinarello and more in all types of bikes (road, hybrid, mtb, etc.). I was looking for a specific Trek Madone in a size small and this is the only local store that had it in stock. I called in advance to confirm its availability and set up a time to view the bike. I spoke with Monty. On the day of my visit, I met with Monty, took the bike for a spin, and took her home, along with a few other items (pedals, computer mount and water bottle cages). It was a smooth and easy transaction. Monty did the basic fitting and the guys in the service area installed all of the other items. The service area was busy with customers picking up and dropping off their bikes. Some even stopped in during their rides for a quick fix. Customer service was outstanding! Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable and super helpful. If I could rate it higher, I would... Pedals (my dog) had a great time hanging out in the store. We will be back!

I was on a tight timeline, and without hesitation, service manager Wilber G. took the time to take apart my bike, fix the issue, and even install new grips I picked out in the shop. He charged a very honest and fair price, worked quickly, and truly saved my afternoon ride. Really appreciate the great service--thank you again! You da man Wilber!!

This place is an absolute scam and should be avoided at all costs. Based on my experience, Bike…read moreAttack Electric engages in misleading sales practices, uses unreasonable refund policies, and provides poor customer service. Frankly, I'm not surprised their Plays Vista location closed--I only wish fewer people had to go through what I did. My experience mirrors many of the other one-star reviews, particularly regarding their outrageous "no refunds" policy. The key difference in my case is that they sold me a bike they didn't even have. I was told it would arrive "sometime in the next month or so," with no firm delivery date or timeline. Rather than taking a deposit, they insisted I pay the full purchase price upfront for a bike that wasn't in stock and wasn't even in their possession. Given that I'm 6'6", I specifically asked whether I could try the bike once it arrived before making a final decision. They assured me that would be "no problem," which gave me confidence that I wasn't taking on unnecessary risk. A few days later, I realized how unreasonable the arrangement was. I had paid thousands of dollars in full for a product they didn't have and couldn't tell me when they would receive. I called and requested a refund. They flatly refused at first. What followed was an exhausting exchange of roughly 15 to 20 emails that started out cordial but eventually became increasingly hostile. After significant back-and-forth, the employee handling the matter, Kit, finally agreed to issue a refund--but withheld more than 7% of the purchase price, claiming it was for "merchant fees." I've never encountered credit card processing fees anywhere near that amount, and charging a customer thousands of dollars upfront for an unavailable product only to keep a substantial portion when they request a refund strikes me as completely unacceptable. Between the bait-and-switch style sales tactics, the refusal to refund a bike they didn't even have, and the generally unhelpful in-store staff, I would strongly recommend taking your business elsewhere. I ended up relying on YouTube reviews to learn about the products because the staff offered so little useful guidance. There are plenty of reputable bike shops out there--this is not one of them.
