Best bike shop around... and they are dog friendly! This Santa Monica bike shop is located on the corner of Broadway and 25th street with its own parking lot. It had a great selection of quality bicycles at reasonable prices. They stock Trek, Cannondale, Santa Cruz, Colnago, Pinarello and more in all types of bikes (road, hybrid, mtb, etc.). I was looking for a specific Trek Madone in a size small and this is the only local store that had it in stock. I called in advance to confirm its availability and set up a time to view the bike. I spoke with Monty. On the day of my visit, I met with Monty, took the bike for a spin, and took her home, along with a few other items (pedals, computer mount and water bottle cages). It was a smooth and easy transaction. Monty did the basic fitting and the guys in the service area installed all of the other items. The service area was busy with customers picking up and dropping off their bikes. Some even stopped in during their rides for a quick fix. Customer service was outstanding! Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable and super helpful. If I could rate it higher, I would... Pedals (my dog) had a great time hanging out in the store. We will be back! read more

I bought a used Trek on Marketplace and needed help fixing a creaking noise near the crank before heading out for a sunset beach ride. I was on a tight timeline, and without hesitation, service manager Wilber G. took the time to take apart my bike, fix the issue, and even install new grips I picked out in the shop. Came here to get helped with my basket that was becoming lose because the bracket holding it has broken off. They did not have the right bracket (I bought it from them in 2018) but they were so nice and still helped me secure my basket with zip ties and tightening the screws. I've been a customer for one reason or another over the years. It's always a great experience. I had a bike in storage that needed a new tire air valve so in I went. They're always so nice and helpful. They pumped up both tires and gave me a little chain oil to which I paid the grand sum of $21.00 and off I went. Helen's is like a Disney theme park for the most savvy bike enthusiast. The selection of high end bikes is dazzling and the stuff dreams--and goals are made of. As I waited for my bike (which by the way took only ten minutes) I roamed around. Amongst the highest priced bikes was a marked down "last season" Cannondale for 399 which I almost impulse purchased. Dropped my bike off at 5:50 pm Saturday. Would def recommend going not so close to closing time (6 pm Saturdays) cuz the employee was definitely very rushed and almost pushy with me. I got a new tire, which cost $65 for a Gators brand. New tube for $11. And $10 for cost of labor. They had it ready by the next day at opening time. Guy was very nice (much kinder) the next morning. Have ridden my bike two days since, and it has held up perfectly! Horrible customer service, especially if you're a woman. I've gone several times in the last month and have left feeling demoralized, belittled, and insulted on almost every occasion. On one visit I was met with a friendly staff member in the bike section, but I don't recall his name. As a relatively new rider, I assumed that Helen's staff could help me with the purchase of a new bike and accessories. Instead, the employees I spoke with were incredibly rude, condescending, and dismissive of my questions. I kept going back thinking I would have a different experience, but I was wrong. My husband and his family have been coming here for 20+ years, but we will no longer spend a dime in this store. Condescending is the first word that comes to mind. If you're new to bikes or you have any questions, I highly suggest you go elsewhere. What a bad experience, I had such high hopes. My friend recommended this bike store to me. We are no longer friends. I'm reading other reviews and the last year seems to show a huge decline in customer service. I should have done more research before I purchased. My first visit: The store was empty, may have been 2 other customers if that. it took 15 minutes for someone to as if I needed help; in a store with 5 employees it seems inattentive. Every question I asked seemed like it was an annoyance. He looked at me as if I should have already known. I felt uncomfortable, So instead of asking any more questions I kindly let and said I'd come back to purchase. Maybe it was an off day for them, every store and person has one. So I gave them another try. My second visit: Store was busier this day. I went in to buy the bike and I greeted the salesman that helped me the week before. I looked at the bike while i stood between the tight rows of bicycles. A man walked up to me and blankly stared. I stare back confused. Am I in his way? He gestured his body towards me as if to say 'I'm going this direction'. So I moved out of his way. He docks a bicycle in a slot turns and, to my surprise, returns to his customers. I see the store is slightly busy but you have enough time to say excuse me. These employees know how to make a moment awkward. After I purchase the bicycle for $900, I take it out and ride it. Same guy tells me not to skid my tires as if I am a child while rolling his eyes. It's not necessary. I have no problem with the bicycle, Helen's cycle didn't make it. Their customer service is worth 1 out of 10 stars. I don't need top tier service, but this was just really bad. Overall, it seems Customer service is not their thing unless you conform to their elitist ways. read more

I brought my son in recently to purchase bikes for the two of us to bond over with a new activity we wanted to get into. We were very excited with plenty of questions and ready to leave with bikes that same day. However, we were unfortunately met with an employee who seems to hate his job (or the people he interacts with). Our warm hellos were coldly met. Our eager questions were met with complete indifference. Asking a question that should lead to a conversation about various products (i.e. does x come in various sizes) would just be met with yes/no. Obviously the question is being asked to understand what sizes are available. I don't know if he just hated the job or if difference in skin tone has anything at play here, but in any capacity I felt incredibly unwelcome and even more glad that we consequently spent $0 at this store. I hate to play the race card and I hope I'm wrong, but the only reason I mentioned it is because the store was recommended to me by a friend of light skin tone. read more

I went to get my tubeless tires changed on my bike and the new tubeless tires put on by Helen's cycles. The verdict they have been flat since the day after the shop. Wtf!! Like really wtf !! I wanted to not have to deal with the mess and time at home, but I just should have done it my self in the back yard. Don't be lazy like me and do it your self. I'm redoing it the correct way my self right now. I was trying to give the benefit of the doubt that people do a good job and that they do a good job. I have rode a lot of bikes for over 20 years and I noticed the whole valve was lose and leaking sealant, as well as along the tire meeting the wheel frame the day I got it back. This means the tire wasn't properly seated in the tire and the valve wasn't properly tightened. While I was paying I also was overly charged for double sealant which was annoying to have to speak up to say something. The whole experience is just fix your bike your self. read more

What wonderful customer service! The team here really went above and beyond with Manager Jay leading the charge. We bought a couple bikes for my boss and Jay was able to arrange a special time for us to come. We occupied a good amount of their time and they were nothing but generous, ready to share their knowledge about all things biking and just really nice people on the whole. They were already pretty booked for delivery, but my boss wanted it the next day after purchase and they made it happen for us. They even showed me how to attached a baby seat to the bikes. The selection here is great and they have bikes to fit different budgets. They do servicing as well. It's no wonder they have been around as long as they have. Cameron was my sales man and I learn a lot from him! The first advice he gave me is fitting me to the bike. He said I should be in a tip toe position when sitting on my saddle; this is how I would know if the bike is a good hight for my size, I am 5'11 and 1/2 . I was told by Cameron that the bike are New and you can put a 20% discount down and pay the bike off within 6 months or pay full price up front . Helen cycle has a good selection of bikes. Trek dual sports and trek marlin seem to be a brand that popular, as well as Santa Cruz which was a real nice bike in my opinion. They also have a huge selection E - Bikes. Personal I like the fact that Helen cycle allows you to test the bike out. You can ride in the Dead in street on your right hand side as you exit Helen parking lot or you can make a left and a quick right and ride down Broadway we're you will find a community garden and another dead in street . I was allowed to test drive a bike for many hours and I test out three different bikes by Trek. I was referred to Helen by a Specialize salesman and I am grateful he recommended me. Helen bike shop is cozy and inviting. Helen was my third bike shop I had tryouts and they are by far my favorite so far, all the salesman were friendly but Cameron took his time with each of his customers and answer any questions I had or other customers.
