The Rialto is a great little single-screen theater hiding in plain sight in Raleigh's Five Points…read moreneighborhood. At the heart of the area, the venue is, in fact, only 260 feet from the triple road intersection that inspired the Five Points name. The Rialto is a historical place, a building that's been situated on Highway 70 since 1936 with almost a century of existence along this major artery. That nearly 2,400-mile road, stretching from Arizona to the Atlantic Ocean, is one of America's longest and bisects the neighborhood. And they've been showing movies since 1942 when the building was converted from a grocery store to a theater. In fact, it's the oldest of the three movie houses still in operation on Highway 70 and the easternmost at that (versus newer theaters in Oklahoma and Arkansas). Showing second-run movies, older classics, and even hosting musical acts, the Rialto's entertainment value remains strong, a step back in time when you enter the facility. Sure, it's a little dated. But it's 90 years old! The sound system is actually quite good and produces an authentic movie experience. I was a little sad that the audience numbered less than 10 for a Monday night showing of the critically acclaimed film Backrooms (2026). But the movie had already completed its initial theatrical run months earlier and it was a weeknight, so I get it. I greatly appreciate the two-hour extended version of the film, and the fact that the Rialto doesn't lead off with ten thousand previews of coming attractions. They simply run one quick ad and jump into the movie. I was stunned and pleasantly surprised. I highly recommend the Rialto!

I tried to watch the 2:15PM showing of Street Fighter today, but it was cancelled…read more But I had looked online at 1:45PM and it was still showing as scheduled for 2:15PM. And when I drove downtown at 2PM there was no sign outside saying the screening was cancelled. But as I paid for parking at 2:10PM and walked inside to buy a ticket and some popcorn, I was told I was too late, they had just cancelled the screening. The clock outside the theater read "2:13PM". The screening had been cancelled because "no one showed up". Except for me, before the movie was scheduled to start, and desiring to watch the movie. I asked if they could "uncancel" the movie at 2:14PM, and they said it was impossible. You would think that if it is impossible to uncancel a screening for lack of an audience, one wouldn't cancel a screening if it was before the time it was scheduled to start. I would hope the staff would be happy to have someone show up to watch the movie, not disappointed they have to actually work. Now I'm out parking and I haven't seen a movie. 0 stars if I could.

The concession stand and ticket checker were very nice and have a much better attitude than the bigger movie theaters. One star taken off for the lack of choices in the concessions (such as hot food) and also due to the volume not being loud enough during the supergirl movie today.

Picking up tickets at will call went smoothly as well playbills were available. What was not available were 3 seats together. There is no assigned seating and although were were there 10 min before curtain, come early if you want best chances in being accomodated seating wise. As part of their Family series, Theatre Raleigh's The Wolf is a performance was suited for theatre lovers of all ages. I loved the intimacy of the Kennedy Theater as it made us feel like we were apart of the show! If you didn't see this particular show, it is back by popular demand for an encore performance and I highly recommend you plan a family date to attend. It's only 45 minutes long which I found was great amount of time to enjoy theatre with children. This show integrated music, dance, acting and fun into a tale about the Big ,Bad Wolf and all of the childhood stories he shows up in. Theatre Raleigh took a very creative approach in mashing up these fables/tales and put on a quality production. Support the arts and the young talent in Raleigh by attending any of the shows held at Kennedy Theater!

(as in, connected to the building...really...if you've never looked back there, like we had not, you might never have noticed it either.) I have now learned that this is where Theatre Raleigh performs their Hot Summer Nights series. This week the new season kicked off with "Vanities". Lauren Kennedy starred in it Off-Broadway and has brought it to us and is directing it. My understanding is she is the mastermind behind the whole series, and let's face it...this talented Broadway star knows her stuff! Today was our first time here (thanks Dad for the tix!) and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Small, intimate theatre that holds around 100. Seating is general admission, but there is literally not a bad seat in the place. We were able to hear every word and see everything from where we landed, which was third row from the back. Seats were comfortable with not-bad leg room. The show, by the way, is fun and the three gals in it are terrific! They were all wonderful singers and great actresses as well. I do believe the show runs for another week or so. I absolutely love the intimacy of this theatre. Love that every show in the series is one I've never seen before and know nothing about. Looking forward to them all. Highly recommend to any and all theatre lovers to check out Theatre Raleigh at the Kennedy Center!

Even though it was once a week class I could undoubtedly feel the progression I am making, the great inspiration I was influenced by and the support to try and dare. Wonderful, small farm light show venue…read more The light tunnel at the entrance is the best display I saw all year. You are surrounded by lights and a slow moving line. The sensation is one usually saved for theme parks. Your car is being transported into another world. There is a live Santa at the end of the light show. He waved and said hello to the kids in the car. They couldn't stop talking about it all the way home. A definite must see for the season
