Oh.. Oh my gosh. I…read morehaven't had cookies this decadent since Cereal Killers in San Antonio. These cookies are the real deal. The menu tends to switch up. Strawcheesie is always out of stock when I try for it, but what's in stock has been quite possibly the best cookie I've ever tried: The Dubai Chocolate Cookie. The Dubai Chocolate cookie jumps on the Dubai chocolate train by taking a chocolate cookie and not only FILLING it with the delicious pistachio mixture, but TOPPING it as well, and zuzzing it up with gold leaf. I ordered two cookies to go before my trip back up to San Antonio and they held up so well, the pistachio portions remained super crispy! I've also tried their S'mores cookie, and it's also really good - but the Dubai Chocolate is where it's at. They have sweet coffee and tea drinks for sale, too. I loved their mango matcha and strawberry matcha. Both are fantastic, but I think strawberry edged out over mango, just a touch. But you can't go wrong with either. Cakex is easy to miss - it's on Central Blvd, and it's next to Dr. Hernandez's dental office and in the same building as some local dry cleaners. Parking is small, so get there early or order it as delivery.

The family and I stopped here for a mid-afternoon snack. Everyone was craving a basic ice cream but…read moreinstead enjoyed these really unique and delicious treats. The basic foundation is ice cream or snow cone. Then Yogo turns them into what I feel is a really gormet treat. I ordered Pineapple Express, pineapple snow cone mixed with cream, garnished with a fresh pineapple slice and three pineapple gummies. My daughter enjoyed a Kit Kat Sunday: vanilla ice cream drizzled with chocolate syrup and four full sticks of Kit Kat. The Choco Mango featured a scoop of chocolate ice cream atop fresh diced mango. They also sell sodas and water. Friendly service greets you at the walk-up window. Give them about 5 minutes to create your treat. Three large picnic tables offer seating under a covered patio area. Heaven help any calorie counters out there! You'll likely go over your calorie budget at this place. We'll be back though!

A Brownsville living legend - my parents said they haven't visited Las Palmas in over 25 years. You…read moreknow a panaderia is good when none of the signage is in English. They have a respectable assortment of pan dulce to choose from, including the all-time favorites like conchas, empanadas, marranitos, the sprinkle cookies, and the sprinkle cake (recently re-branded as dot cake to the kiddos). The prices here can't be beat. In San Antonio, a selection of pan the size my mom got would be well over $20. We paid $12.50 for our haul. Of course, back in the day I'm sure that would have been much less, but by today's standards that's still an excellent price. The quality is also pretty good. I ate the giant Mexican wedding cookie that was shaped like a normal sized cookie instead of the quarter-sized balls you typically see. It was buttery and crunchy. So glad we got to try it. Me for the first time, and for my parents, a taste they haven't had since around the time they both worked downtown.

Found this place by chance when looking for a Celiac safe place while at the Island. So glad I did…read more I definitely recommend this place. It does take time to get your food as it is prepared when ordered so call ahead to place your order if you are short on time and want to sit down and enjoy your meal. The location is clean and welcoming especially with all the beautiful desserts in view ready for the asking. The owner explained they use no gluten which was perfect. I ordered the waffles, I am not a waffle person nor do I eat much bread, with a side of eggs and bacon, my nonCeliac friend had the french toast which had me second guessing my choice, she said it was really good. The waffles came topped with blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries, came with a maple syrup, I ate both of them and really enjoyed them as well as the eggs which were delicious and the bacon was too. I took with me a few goodies and the jicama chips, all were so good even my nonCeliac, anti gluten-free husband really enjoyed. I could not believe I ate 1 item a day since I will not eat bread nor sugars that often but they were so good. This is definite detour we will be making every time we head out to the Island. I can hardly wait to try their pasta, where can one find grain free pasta.
