From reporting the death of my husband, to sending death certificates my experience was horrible. I never received notice that my husband's body was picked up, they actually told me I had not reported the death- Untrue- the charge nurse and I called it in, when we finally "found" his body they called me by the wrong name, had the wrong information for the death certificate-- the final had an error-- the county had to fix it and were unresponsive. I did rrecieve my husbands ashes- in a box that would scare the faint of heart-- shipped to my home with hazmat stickers all over it-- a friend took it away, and the death certificates- with errors 7 weeks after his death. A terrible , non responsive experience-- during a time where some compassion would have been great. No call answering, no email responses, multiple errors. read more

My grandmother passed away one month ago today, and while we were finally successful in getting death certificates, we still have no update on her remains or where they are in the process. We have called several times, only to get the answering service and no return calls. We have also emailed with no response. Please don't tell us to "contact you directly", as you've responded to other negative yelp reviews, as contacting Neptune Society of Santa Rosa is what we have been trying to do for weeks. For anyone looking for death arrangements, I would look elsewhere. Don't stick your decedents with this burden. Will update my review if and when our family gets this resolved. read more

My mother hired Neptune to take care of her death arrangements. She passed away 20 days ago and we are still waiting for her death certificate. Left 3 messages last week with NO response. Very concern about this company. Response - We have been trying to reach "someone" at Neptune, hence my review. When calling Neptune Society to report a death, I was immediately turned off by the rudeness of the representative. You would think in that line of work he would be courteous and have people skills. Nope, the man was lacking soft skills. There are better mortuaries in Santa Rosa like Daniel's or Eggen and Lance. read more

I called several places in Sonoma County to find a service that would transfer two of my loved ones remains from one vessel to another. Two places never returned my call and another would not offer this service because I hadn't use them for their cremation services. I called Neptune Society and Michelle answered; she was friendly, kind, and offered a same day appointment! When I arrived Michelle was their to greet me and took the remains to transfer right away. After about 10 minutes she brought both vessels out that had been shined and placed in a nice bag to transport them home. It took me 10yrs to have this done and I am beyond satisfied with the services received! read more

Please, do not use these people in Santa Rosa. I will say Traci is nice if/when you finally are able to talk to her. But getting to her is a huge challange. I heard horrible things about them 30 years ago and they are just as bad today. We knew my mother in law would pass within a year so my husband and brother in law made a trip to visit them in Santa Rosa. This decision was my brother in laws and is based on BiL good experience with Neptune in Washington State 12 years ago. I wasn't with them and I don't know who they talked to. The person refused to discuss any pre-arrangements and told them it is' Cheaper' to wait until the person passes. (There are many other reasons for wanting to do it up front and in advance.) They don't get that or don't care. My mother in law passed a few weeks later and we had to make all the arrangements. Days worth of work that we could have done when we were less stressed and overwhelmed. They don't do Obituary's either. 'Do it yourself' they told me. They have had her body for 5-6 weeks. She just got cremated in the South Bay. yah, they ship everyone to Oakland and let your loved one sit in cold storage for over a month before they do anything. Then they transport them somewhere else in the bay area to cremate them. I'm disgusted with that. A friend passed a month prior - required an autopsy and was STILL cremated in 5 days through Adobe in Petaluma. Cost was about the same. We didn't have to go buy an Urn on line or anything! Neptune's phones don't work part of the time. I had to call some other office to let them know I was trying to reach them on multiple days. I've called 3 times and gone through their website this week. No response. I finally decided to go on the line for emergencies and current deaths to get an answering service. Update. I did get a call back from Traci but nothing for the 3 prior days of calls and e-mails. I guess you have to go full on emergency to get anyone's attention. Even the answering service is well below par. First she mumbled and talked so fast and soft I could not understand her, then when I asked her to speak up I still had to ask her to repeat what she said to me because she talked so fast. At that point she was down right rude. Not the job for her for sure. Hello, this is supposed to be an answering service where the caller is probably stressed or hurting, we (you and me) don't need abusive treatment. But then, they probably are cheap- so there you go. I'm waiting on a call back to 'schedule' an appointment to bring them an Urn. What does that entail? Who, what, where and how. Its already paid for. Oh, they told us to order an Urn from Amazon - they are cheaper. When I finally got a call back from Traci she said come in any time tomorrow. No problem. So who told my brother in law we had to make an appointment? Delayed us one more day. Oh and they only ship ashes through US mail. They use priority mail - I guess certified would be too much to ask. So here is my point. My mother in law in no way needed to be treated as a destitute individual. We had the money, that was never an issue. I'm offended that they are so focused on 'cheap' to the point they offend the living customer. They offend our sensibilities by leaving our loved ones sitting in a walk-in refrigerator for over a month with no time table of when they would be cremated. They create extra drama- not less. In no way do they assist a family in their time of need. Oh, Oh, they do play cheap, elevator music in their lobby filled with fake flowers - they do have that going for them. Do your family a big favor, skip this place unless you didn't love the person you are caring for. It will be less pain and anguish for you. If you want to feel your family and your loved ones soul is being torchered. Go Here, great place! I wish I had read Shari B.'s comment about bone chunks. That will be lovely in 10 days when we spread ashes, of course assuming we every get her ashes. I guess I should have prepared myself for this when the first thing they asked for on the day she passed was a photo so they could identify her. I was confused but I guess if you sit in a refrigerator for a month your appearance might change, and I guess they are two cheap to tag someone. Toe tag so much money. This review is long over due and i'm here to make it. I have to say that my visit with the Neptune society was excellent as it can get. My step father passed away September 2017 and the rep Mia Keys was there to guide us the every step of the way. From the paper work to picking out our urns it was a piece of cake. I highly recommend The Neptune Society of California. This may seem like an unpleasant subject to some, but from the original purchase to the final receipt of my husband's ashes, they could not have been more helpful. I had a pre-conceived idea after he passed away that I would sign some papers and be told when to pick up the ashes. In fact, Neptune was helpful in many more ways, from procuring death certificates, advising which agencies and institutions to contact following his death, and completely making the arrangements with the National Cemetery (including scheduling the military honors there). This was all done for me by a woman named Alsatia Zenor. I truly appreciate all she did, with a professional yet compassionate manner. Please consider using their services when deciding your end of life plans. read more

Our family had a terrible experience with Neptune Society of the North Bay. My parents signed up for Neptune Society cremation services while living in San Diego. My father passed away there and we were treated very well with all aspects of his cremation and scattering at sea. My mother moved to Santa Rosa in 2011 and I transferred her membership to the Northern California office. They sent me a membership card for Mom saying she was a "Lifetime" member. When she passed away in October 2015, they refused to honor the membership. They said that they are not connected in any way to the San Diego branch. Even though Mom had a card from their office, they refused to honor her membership. Finally after much communication, they agreed to cover some of the expenses. Their communication was so lacking in compassion that we moved on. We had a wonderful experience with Adobe Creek Funeral Home in Petaluma. They honored the funds that San Diego Neptune Society had in trust without any qualms. read more

We had a very poor experience with Neptune Society. We were accused of falsehoods and then never apologized to after the mistakes (on their part) had been found. We were scheduled for an 11 am appointment, but none of the paperwork was completed or ready for us. The service manager lady was unprofessional and inexperienced. My sister and I had our mother cremated through The Neptune Society. From the moment we met with Samantha, an employee there, we were treated wonderfully. She was kind, compassionate and caring. Whenever we needed to speak to her on the phone, she immediately called us back if she was unable to answer. She explained the process in perfect detail and we were pleased with the cost. There isn't less than one star. My mother was cremated through Santa Rosa Neptune Society. When joining my mother's ashes with my father's ashes several years later I discovered my mother's ashes were a tan color with chunks of bone among them. My father's were from Blue Oaks mortuary and were gray and all ash. I would never recommend Neptune Society. read more

My mother bought her policy in 1983. She died in 2015. I called the company, everything was taken care of. It was wonderful. We are buying policies for us! One little detail. I asked for her fingerprints to be taken and never got them on the email. I could contact the company, but I didn't. read more

Terrible. Neptune Society has really gone downhill. My grandparent prepaid for their services many years ago and the service their children and grandchildren have received is absolute horrifying. Last Sat. June, a memorial service was planned for my grandmother. My mother received a call a day and half before that the yacht was having electrical issues and that they needed to move it to Sunday and that the boat they were renting would be comparable. They actually called and stated the wrong date and wrong party name cause a huge upheaval. Then it was confirmed for Sunday at 11, no one for warned the party that their was a huge gay parade in SF and to anticipate waiting in traffic 45-60 mins, no one provided an alternative route or anything helpful. Unfortunately, we (my brother and I were 15 mins late) and they wouldn't hold the boat for us claiming they had to be back by 1pm. I understand the world doesn't revolve around me, but this wasn't a sightseeing op. it was a memorial for someone I deeply loved. Worse yet, the boat came back 20 mins early at 12:40pm: they could have waited for us. Cruel and heartless. Neptune society, you are simply awful! Anyone who has prepaid and is still with us should demand their money back. read more

My mother recently died. We used The Neptune Society for cremation. They were very responsive to our family needs in a tough situation. My mother was fortunate enough to die in her own home. The Neptune Society picked up her remains, met with us the next day and handled all the necessary steps including death certificates and notifications of legal entities. The staff was at all times easy to deal with and as I mentioned before, responsive. I recommend them very highly. read more

My husband died in a Santa Rosa hospital last week. Michelle of the Santa Rosa Neptune Society was very responsive over the phone. They picked up my husband's body with my verbal authorization. When I went for an appointment the next day, Michelle was very respectful and compassionate as well as very informative. She gave me both written and verbal information and gave me tips about next steps. I did not feel rushed and she gave me her full attention. The package is a bit pricey but that is probably the cost of living in this area. Michelle gave me her phone number and other contact information and indicated she is available 24/7 if I have any questions or concerns. I am currently very satisfied with the service. read more

Liars and thieves! They took advantage when my dear husband died. Always bring an advocate when planning a funeral for a loved one. Someone has to be clear headed enough to spot a scam by a funeral salesperson. For $1200.00, I got a county cremation and an obituary in the local paper. The salesperson, who proved to be an illiterate racist, tried to sell me an "urn" for $450. I found the same "urn" at Micheal's for $14.00. I had to transport his ashes, pick them up myself from the crematorium when I was so grief stricken, I could barely drive. In the newspaper, to my utter horror, my dear husband's name was misspelled, his information all wrong and there was no photo included. I later discovered that a county cremation was only $325. including permits. This woman took full advantage of me and made a $400 commission for her trouble. Please don't do business with Neptune society. They don't scatter ashes, they just rip you off and provide services that are already provided by the county. SCAMMERS AND LIERS!!!!!! read more

I had my mother cremated in the year 2000. My father died two years ago and was cremated by a different crematory. When I went to remove my mothers ashes, I discovered there were chunks of bone in her ashes. My fathers was completely ash. There is a big difference in the quality of cremation. Neptune Society wasn't done correctly. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone for their loved ones. read more

I agree with Michelle, the customer service is awful! The initial contact with Lindsay was fine, if a bit drawn out, she covered everything. It is the follow up we are having issues with. A message was left on my voice mail saying that my father's ashes were ready to be picked up. My father passed away 15 years ago. I called trying to make an appointment to pick up my MOTHER'S ashes and was told someone would call back. I have called 5 days in a row leaving messages and still no return call! read more

2007-Mom died. She had a prepaid plan. Neptune tried to extort many hundreds of dollars more which the kids refused to pay but we did get stuck with an extra $300 or so. Service was very poor/delayed/incompetent. Just about the only thing that was good was that, finally, after many weeks of waiting, I was able to go to them to see my mother's ashes put in the ground; the gardener helped me with that and invited me to "pour" the ashes and I so appreciated that. They tried to charge us big bucks for a BOX to put Mom in (temporarily!) We said no and when I went to pour the ashes, she was in a simple cardboard box with a plastic liner but they had told us they had NO boxes and that we must buy one. Neptune has turned into a disgraceful ripoff in recent years. Actually, one star is probably one too many. They are to be avoided. I noticed on one of the reviews that they mentioned Adobe Creek Funeral Home. When my husband passed away in 2004, I used them by way of Redwood Funeral Society (no longer in business) and Adobe was accommodating, professional, timely and reasonable. They come highly recommended by me. read more

Things did not go well. Took 4 hours to have my father picked up, and almost 4 weeks to do the cremation. They had my sister sign the wrong form, so apparently that's why it had taken so long. Did not make any sense to me either. Office very slow to return phone calls as well. Asked for out money back, as they have a policy of refunding money if families are not satisfied. We were not. Only refunding a couple hundred for the transportation, and that's it. I think there's a class action law suit in there somewhere...... This is not the Neptune of years ago. Apparently they are owned by a cooperation now. They are either not paying enough to attract competent staff, or not staffing well enough for them to do a good job. Really disappointing. My sister has a pre need plan with them. Is considering cancelling it, as she does not want her children to go through what we did with my father. We had used Neptune years ago and they were great.
