I was out and about and decided to stop by nephews steak and hoagie place in Gary. This was my first time at nephews, but I've only heard great things about their food and their service. I ordered the steak sandwich or the steak hoagie combo, which includes french fries and a drink. You all know how I love french fries and I had heard that this place has hand cut french fries. Well they did and they were delicious and I think up north one of our signatures with our fries and other things that we order is to put sauce on everything. Their sauce was delicious a little sweet but still delicious so I got sauce on my fries and extra onions on my sandwich. The gentleman who waited on me was very friendly and very pleasant. I will definitely be going back. Overall experience was definitely five stars. read more

Just a personal experience review. The food was pretty tasty. It was very juicy, decent proportion, although a little overpriced for the service. There is basically no place to sit and eat, but they charge like a sit down restaurant. They take an EXTREMELY long time to get the food ready. So if you can call and pick up in 20 minutes that'll probably be your best bet. They completely forgot my order and gave it to some lady who was there after I'd come in. Meaning I was present first. Instead of them realizing that, they gave her my food and I had to tell them I think they made a mistake. They compensated by giving me a free drink when I already paid for one. It a very good experience. People are nice, but they're a little disorganized if you don't badger them about your food, which sucks. for starters me and my mother have been going to "home of the hoagy" out in chicago for as long back as i can remember. was never a close drive so always special when the opportunity came... but it had been a few years since i had them and since i moved ive to indiana somehow ive stumbled upon this goldmine of a restaurant called Nephews Steak & Hoagy whilst looking at local restaurants ... needless to say all i had to see was them bright green pickles ontop of that bbq hoagy and i knew that s¿&; had to taste the same and it did A B S O L U T E L Y love the steak hoagies almost more then i do them smothered fries. hats off to that og bbq sauce xx read more

A rideshare drop-off took me to Gary. I came here having a taste for a hoagie. On this day, I didn't want to stand in 2 lines for 2 hours @ 1316 W 111st Str in Chicago, and I didn't want that garbage @ 8147 S Halsted or @ 1117 Sibley Blvd. in Dolton! So I gave them a try. I'm glad I did. I ordered a turkey and deli hoagy and a steak sandwich. Nice soft bread, fresh ingredients, tasty sandwich, plenty of meat, and you could tell it wasn't pre-made. Very good product. Carry out only. Minus one star because the place could use some renovations and having lettuce on a Chicago style hoagie (never had or seen that before). One last thing. A friend told me about this place. I am in Indiana every weekend and I had to try this place out. It is on a main street so it isn't hard to find. They do require a face mask to enter into the building. Ordering was smooth and they have a lot of options. All the food is cooked to order so it can take awhile to get the order out to you. I ordered the Fries with sauce, Chicken Sweet Sandwich with sauce, and Steak bowl. The Fries and that sauce was very good. The sauce isn't a mild sauce but its something better. The Steak bowl was something I'd never had before. It was steak meat, sauce, nacho cheese and fries. It was good but its something that is a meal on its own. The Chicken sandwich was good and flavorful. Price point is average. Overall its a great addition to Gary that I will be visiting when i'm there. read more

Stopped by on our travels. So delicious! We had the steak sandwich and my kid had tenders and fries. The tenders were huge pieces of chicken and the fries were clearly hand cut. Originally from the Philly area, I was hesitant about a cheesesteak, but it was done right with a Chicago twist. I skipped past this place for months... I was unsure of the "Sauce" on the sandwichs. It's good, really good. Not like Sloppy Joe sauce but like Sloppy Joe Sauce. Meat is quality meat. I got the Steak Bowl and a Turkey Sandwich, My wife got the Steak Sandwich and Cheese Fries. The Steak with sauce is good but the Turkey Hoagie is AMAZING! One of the BEST Hoagies I have had in the NW Indiana area. Better then Jodi's Italian Ice Factory Hoagies. The bread is some of THE BEST bread I've had from here to Milwaukee. Maybe I'm tripping. The Pickles, OUTSTANDING!!! Everything was VERY fresh and the Turkey didn't have an aftertaste like a lot of Deli spots. This place is FIRE! FUEGO! Whatever you want to call it do NOT pass this place up any longer. I advise getting the Turkey Hoagie. My wife NEVER gives a place a 10/10 and she said she also suggest her sandwich. My first time here from Indianapolis I order the mighty steak with extra mayo. They put the whole bottle of Mayo on the sandwich. Disgusting, I don't know if they were trying to be funny. But I will not be back. I do not recommend for a good sandwich. read more

I've passed this place several time in route to work. I got 2 steak sandwiches & 2 turkey hoagies. The hoagie wasn't bad but it tasted like something I could've made at home. I would recommend using actual Submarine Oil instead of whatever oil they use to give it a different taste. Could've kept the lettuce ‍; Too many onions for me. I got my steak sandwich with no peppers & it felt like something was missing; upon taking that first bite I'm like um is there a onion paste on the bottom of the sandwich? It's so crunchy. Overall it's ok, definitely not like The Hoagie Place or Taurus in Chicago. Hopefully next time I'll check the chicken out. read more

The hours are not correct when you google the restaurant so it's best to stop by before 8pm or call. The food was good. I tried the steak sandwich. Husband tried the chicken sandwich and we shared the wings. All of it was tasty. They cook the food fresh so you have a little wait. Since going to NWI I def have a hard time getting take our because I'm so use to growing up in Chicago where there is an abundant of choices . This place has Awesome food, def a place to go check out ! Better than any sandwich in NWI . Employees were friendly as well as professional.
