The walls and ceiling look amazingly smooth, practically like the walls of a brand new construction rather than a 100+ year old house! He also was so considerate and accommodating and a great communicator. His high-quality workmanship paired with his kindness and dependability made us feel very lucky to have found him. He also worked well under less than ideal circumstances. We were doing major electrical renovations and as a result only a few outlets worked in the entire house. For a large part of the project we had no working air conditioner and it was very hot outside. Without any complaints, Chris made it work, despite hardly any lighting or cool air or outlets for fans! We are really pleased with the results.

Bad company. Bad Communication. Stay Away!…read more I had an estimate scheduled for 8 AM on October 10, 2022, and no one showed. I called at 8:10 AM with no answer so I left them a voicemail. I called them again on October 13, 2022, to just clarify and get things straight as I did not want to leave a bad review. An hour after I left the voicemail, I receive a call from the owner (Brett Shaw). He began talking to me very aggressively. He proceeds to tell me that he thought my inquiry was a joke which is why he never responded to my messages or showed up. My request was for trim work and baseboards to be painted in my bathrooms but also stated that if this project is too small that other jobs could be done as well. As a consumer, it is not my job to know the expenses or the prices of this company. I was looking for an estimate while trying to support a local company. Brett has since responded to my review on Google calling me a scam and a liar. I do not appreciate his actions or business practices. Overall, I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and even put on my Google review "Would love for them to get in touch so I can change my review and support a local business". Cannot encourage customers enough to stay away from this company.

From the estimate forward, he did a great job communicating with us about pricing and process, and he offered a much more reasonable quote than many other contractors in central Illinois. When any work that deviated from our original plan arose (such as replacing the drum trap in our older home), Charles explained what needed to be done and why. Our final invoice was right in line with our estimate and we felt that he was honest and straightforward with us throughout the remodel. He was also very considerate being in our home and maintaining masks/distancing during covid-19.

My husband and I needed the windows and two sliding mg glass doors replaced in our home. We met…read morewith with a representative (Colton) in February 2024. While we were looking at other businesses, we greatly appreciated Colton's knowledge. We also wanted to support a local business, and we were impressed that they did their own work rather than hire contractors. In the end, we decided to go with Crown Exteriors. We asked about the timeline, and we were told that once they measured and placed the window order, we would have windows by mid-May at the latest. We received a text letting us know that the windows showed up May 2nd, and Colton told us that they'd schedule us after their carpenter caught up on a few things. After that, any communication was initiated by me. I reached out on 5/22/24, 1/19/24, and 8/5/24. Colton responded each time, but it was unnerving to have to reach out so often because we weren't given any updates. Finally, at the end of August 2024, I received a call from Colton asking if we wanted the windows installed the next day (8/29). Because we'd waited so long, we agreed. The next day, contractors showed up, which upset us because we had hoped to have someone on staff do the installation. The install went as smoothly as it could go, and it took about three days. However, two days after the windows were installed we noticed some issues. First, they installed our doors the wrong way, flipping the handle from the right to the left side of the door. Thats minor, but we were confused as to why they'd make the change. Next, the sliding glass doors accumulated water at the bottom. Outside water accumulation makes sense, but there shouldn't have been water on the inside. Lastly, a couple windows wouldn't open, and we couldn't figure out why. We contacted Colton, and he said he'd need to circle back to the contractors to look at it. This response was given on September 9th. Since then, we've called Colton (who let us know he didn't work there anymore and gave us the owner's contact information), the owner, and the business number on the website. We've left messages as well. We have yet to be contacted. The install was approximately $20,000, and we are not a super well-off family, so we really counted on this to be done well. And yet, we've been ignored and left with broken windows. I didn't want to leave this review because I'd hoped to work it out with them, but I'm hoping that they might be more willing to talk to us with this review posted.

What makes this even more impressive is that I live out of town and handled everything over the phone with William, the co-owner. From our very first conversation, I could tell he was knowledgeable, honest, and committed to delivering top-quality work. We worked out all the contract details remotely, and when I finally met him in person on the first day of the project, he was exactly who I had come to trust over the phone--professional, straightforward, and a man of integrity. His team was phenomenal! Every worker assigned to the job was skilled, efficient, and respectful of my mom's home. They showed up early every day, put in full days (sometimes even longer), and left no detail overlooked. There were no hidden surprises, no delays--just honest, high-quality workmanship. Finding a contractor you can trust, especially from a distance, is no small task. But I found exactly that with CU Midwest Designs. If you're looking for a company that delivers exceptional results with integrity and professionalism, look no further. I HIGHLY recommend them for any home construction needs!

After reading through the other horrible reviews, I have to say, they are 100% accurate!…read more Everything before install was fantastic. A 2 day install turned into 2 weeks with lots of no shows from the installer and an extra $1,400 in cash given to him for things he claimed were extra. Getting ahold of the owner was not easy but once we did get ahold of him, he did apologize and seemed like he was going to make sure everything was made right. He took $700 off our final bill. Once the installer was done, we had to call to ask about getting all the cabinets adjusted aka straight. They did come out and do that. After about a week, we noticed the pull out trash can was hitting the pantry door next to it. Luther sent a guy out to "fix" it. The "fix" worked for another couple weeks until it gave and started hitting again. Then it l came off the track. We obviously haven't been able to use it since (so after just a few weeks). You can see in the picture below that it's crooked. Getting ahold of them was extremely difficult but when we did, Luther told us it sounded like a spacer wasn't installed between the two. We kept hearing they would get back to us. Eventually they stopped answering our calls. Before the holidays, months after the issue and not being able to use the trash can, my husband got the idea to call from his work phone. They of course answered, not knowing it was him and told him they were looking into a solution. Again, we were ghosted for months. My husband stopped in last week to give them another chance to make this right and Luther Falls was far from professional and wanted nothing to do with working towards a solution. He called my husband awful names and told him to "F our cabinets," while walking away from him to avoid a conversation. I then made a Facebook post to let all my friends and family know about our situation and the terrible treatment we had received. Luther commented saying we were liars and that we broke it and didn't notify them until 6 months later. Obviously that is not the case. We are honest, hard working people who tried to give a company chance after chance to make it right. We never dreamed that we would be treated this way. We've remodeled 3 homes now and never had any issues with anyone we've worked with! Also, we aren't 100% sure our bottom cabinets are even the color we ordered. We picked charcoal grey and our receipt says that but these are navy blue. We never even had the chance to bring this up to the company because it's been the least of our worries.
