I have been a parent at Nellya for the last 7 years. Pros: your child will develop their bodies, their discipline, their lifelong friendships, their strategic thinking skills, and their world views. My daughter's love for fencing has been fostered here, and I thank God for that. Nellya athletes consistently have top level results...and have National, World, and Olympic medal fencers. They have results under their belt! Cons: fencing isn't a cheap sport. It's not like you're letting your child join the school's basketball or football team. This is a serious sport...requiring equipment, physical maintenance, private lessons, and travel expenses. Is it worth it, YES! Besides the Pros mentioned above, it's a great way to make your child stand out in the world (especially to colleges). It's best to go on in and have a look...talk with the coaches and other parents. read more

I bought a groupon voucher for four fencing classes for myself. The voucher costs $42. At first I was not sure whether they have adult classes, because no such class was listed on their website. But in the Q&A section of the groupon deal, the owner said "Classes are for adults with no experience and are offered Mon and Wed. at 6 p.m". I am in my early 20s, I thought fencing might be really fun so I grabbed the deal. On first day, I realized I am the only adult in the class, the youngest student in the foil class was in primary school and oldest (beside me) was in high-school. And even the youngest student had one+ year experience with foil so I was pretty the only (and oldest) one in the class without any clue. I thought not coming back for the rest of the 3 classes, but I do not want to waste the money. In the second class, another clueless adult showed up (apparently also misguided by the Q&A section of groupon), and I thought I have found company. That adult didn't turn up again:( I still give the place 5 stars because I think the practice would be fantastic for children (if I would be given the chance to learn fencing when I was a child, I would be very happy) and it is my fault that I did not do my research thoroughly before I bought the deal. What they've taught my son goes beyond fencing - which they coach masterfully. Because of this club, my son has a greater appreciation of global cultures, a greater appreciation of the bonds that come from mentoring younger children and of being mentored by older children, and an appreciation of the excellence that can only be achieved with dedication and hard work. It's not always an easy path because they expect a lot of their athletes and families, but, like any serious undertaking, it is worth it to my family. My son's dreams are bigger now because he is surrounded by people who are doing incredible things and they are coaching him in how to achieve the same. Who wouldn't want that for their child? Before registering my son for summer camp, I called and spoke to the administrator and explained that my son had a peanut allergy and asked if they could accommodate him. I was told they could,so I registered him. When I arrived for summer camp, I was told that they could not take responsibility for an Epipen and I could either stay with him at camp or take him and leave and they would refund my money. My son has attended many different summer camps this year and in prior years and we have NEVER been turned away because of his allergy, especially as I confirm it before I register him for anything. read more

Best place for saber fencing south of NYC, and one of the 5 best places to train in the nation. The coaching staff is top notch and no one cares more about their students than Maestro Arkady Burdan. I have been to this club numerous times for training camps. Additionally, Maestro Arkady Burdan has coached me at national and international competitions many times. His coaching at competitions has helped me make two junior national teams (2008 & 2009). Nellya trains champions both on and off the strip. I cannot recommend this club enough. read more
