Small diner with all the goodness! Long counter for service, long row of booths for more seating. Greeted quickly and seated comfortably. Servers move around frequently, refilling coffee, taking and serving orders. Food was great with a LOT of it! The biscuits are huge and so flaky and delicious. We went for breakfast. The vibe was a great old diner--counter right by the grill, booths along the side. However, I've never had french toast that tastes bad, but this did. I thought it was rye bread, it was so brown, but the waitress said nope, that's just the batter it's dipped in. Whatever was in it, it did not taste good. We stopped in shortly before closing on Saturday not realizing they closed at 11. The hostess was pleasant and seated us at the bar which I would highly recommend. We got front seats to the action on the cooking line and staging area. We so enjoyed watching the staff cook and interact and they included the patrons so it felt like we were all one big family. Everyone was so sweet and kind and the food was delicious. Would highly recommend the fancy browns and the homemade biscuits. All the staff is new and incompetent, the hash browns are always burned, and the atmosphere is chaotic even when it's not busy. First time here. Absolutely phenomenal food. The staff is quick and very pleasant. The waitress was very cordial and the cooks served the food hot and fast and you can watch it be made right there. I got the BLT and was delicious. My two buds got the Hungry Neighbors and Country Fried Steak and loved both of them. If you want a delicious, cheap breakfast the way it should be served up at "diners" like Denny's and IHOP, this is the real deal. The proportions are huge and the price is right, and it is always busy. This means you might have to wait longer, but is an endorsement on the popularity of the cafe. If you're willing to wait, you can be put at a booth (or even a booth in the Kansas City Chiefs section) but if you come during the busy hours you might have to sit at the bar, where you can see them making pancakes, eggs, hash browns, etc. (both exciting and disturbing). PS: try the cinnamon roll, but be ready to take more than half of it home with you! read more

Lunch here on Aug. 2, 2017. Traditional downtown diner, once known as the White Swan when I was growing up in McPherson during the 1950's. I had the pork cutlet sandwich and fries -- very tasty and generous portions. The owner, staff, and guests were all friendly as one expects in a small midwestern town. McPherson continues to represent, at least on the surface, the kind of place that Norman Rockwell might want to depict in his paintings of 60 years ago. If you have time, visit the new McPherson community museum -- lots of interesting and well-designed exhibits that the community justly feels proud to display. read more
