Scheduling is an absolute nightmare. Doctor missed our virtual appointment. Front desk was supposed to call to reschedule, called 6 days later than promised. When I messaged using the Sutter app, I requested to be contacted via messaging because playing phone tag/waiting on hold has already eaten up hours of time. I was then called, against my request (also not allowing for any proof of the conversation), and immediately argued with by front desk. I was told to block out TWO HOURS of my time for a 30 minute appointment. When I pointed out that this seems unreasonable and backwards for the patient to block out loads of time rather than the doctor being scheduled accordingly, I was told that I was impatient. So... If you want to be verbally abused and not given any medical care and waste hours of the one precious life you were given, then see this doctor! read more

If I could rate this practice zero stars, I would. Despite my general practitioner sending four referrals to this practice, they claimed I need to also have my GP and my gastro send test results before they would even schedule me for an appointment. Both doctors have sent the test results, and this practice now says they haven't received any of the results. This has been the worst healthcare experience of my life. My GP has been gracious enough to send and re-send various documents to this practice, all for nothing. read more

Dr doesn't respect patients time and request a 30 minute delay, after the 30 minutes pass I asked how much longer and was told to wait another 30 minutes while the dr takes a phone appointment. What a waste of time and disappointment I was referred due to an elbow pain, thinking about it there is no way I can be on time and sit at the office for an hour until the dr finish playing kandy krush and phone appointments. I wish this lack of respect of others time is a warning for other people and can find a good respectable dr. By the way of the office response seems like the dr is used to it and the staff has to take the blame for this lousy disgrace of a physician. Ps. Use the clock and remove the white board with dr Nevarez 30 minutes late, just be on time be responsible you made it this far to be a dr, no one owes you 1 hour to waste. read more

The absolutely worst rheumatologist I've yet to encounter. His bio talks about how compassionate and caring he is toward his patients. I've never met that man... I had to move to him when my favorite rheumy left the practice. I kept thinking the next visit with him would be better. I tried to like him each time but left the office every visit feeling extremely disappointed. I've put a good year in with this guy. We have continued to disagree about my treatment plan and my thoughts and opinions about my own health don't seem to make a difference. His way or not at all. I've had some concerning health issues recently and when speaking to him about it briefly, he made some dramatic changes that have made my life quite difficult. At the advise of many of my other specialists, I've been advised to change rheumatologist as soon as possible. Uhhh, not a problem! I don't ever want this guy treating me again!! His office staff is absolutely wonderful. That would be the only redeeming quality and has nothing to do with him. read more

I went to Dr. Nevarez for a consultation (and ideally diagnosis) for hEDS. He was cold, unfeeling, rude, and patronizing. Firstly, I told him that I have frequent subluxations in a couple of my joints, to which he asked "what i meant by that". He then wrote "subluxations" in my chart, as if to say I don't know what it means. He then performed the Beighton scale ON ME, instead of having me do it myself, and if he had asked me I would have told him that my right pinky doesn't bend as far as the other, so when he bent it back, he actually injured me during the exam. He also managed to not notice my heart murmur, which is a first for me. He then told me I didn't meet criteria, based on the WRONG CRITERIA. I knew he was wrong, but all i could do was cry in frustration. Then, when i looked at the notes for my appointment, he got my age AND gender wrong, missed really important information, and diagnosed me with a disorder that A. doesn't apply to me, and B. is TWO GENERATIONS OUT OF DATE. I can't say anything about his competence in other areas of rheumatology, but if you think you have EDS, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. PS: i was correctly diagnosed with hEDS by another rheum named Lindsy Forbess, who I highly recommend. read more

He also said he would talk with his staff so they would let someone know that he would be calling and approximately when. I still think his knowledge is good, and his rapport was better. read more

I am so grateful for Dr. Nevarez and his office. Dr. Nevarez is incredibly caring and responsive and he has really helped me when my autoimmune disease has gone through bad flares off and on over the last couple of years. I have had my illness for 12 years and I haven't always had rheumatologists who have taken it seriously because I am very athletic. But when the disease is active it can be very painful, and Dr. Nevarez never brushes me off or ignores or minimizes my symptoms - he really tries to get to the root of the problem and I can tell he feels badly if I am in pain. When I am in the office for a check up and I'm feeling unwell, he is super thorough, has lots of questions and checks for swelling and pain in my joints. He definitely has a more serious personality but I appreciate how professional he is and I can tell he really wants me to feel better. It is very difficult to find good rheumatologists and Dr. Nevarez is a gem. His office staff, too. Super pleasant and kind. read more

Well, this is very comforting to know I was not the only one that had issues with Dr. Nevarez. He is not that pleasant if you disagree with him. It all started when I had pain in my joints and could not lift my arms. He ordered blood test but could not tell me if I had RA or something else. He recommended I start taking a steroid medication. I didn't want to take medication before I knew what was causing my illness. That seems reasonable to me. Right! But, the Dr. became very angry. My husband was in the room and also noticed how the doctor became cold and said to me if I don't take these pills, I could lose my hair or die from kidney failure. Talk about missing a bedside manner. I was totally shocked and told him when he can tell me what my illness was then we can have a discussion about the medication. I felt like he was not taking my concerns seriously. I am person that will try supplements and food changes first to help with healing. When I ask him about supplements and diet, he cut me off and said rudely, "I don't know anything about supplement, that's not what they teach us in medical school". I went back to him to see what the blood test revealed he confirmed it was Lupus. He suggested once again a steroid medication. I wanted to research the medication and again be became upset with me. When my husband and I left the office, I decided to fire Dr. Nevarez. Yes, we know the Dr. is the expert, but I should also be able to trust my doctor. As a patient, we also have a say about what is decided, at least be heard. There is a way to talk to your patients without being condescending. My new doctor listens to me and understands me. Together we have developed a plan that includes low dose medication and a food diet with exercise. My experience with Dr. Nevarez was in 2018 and it saddens me to see that he has not changed (softened) his behavior. read more

Not being the sort to write reviews, I sent my heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Nevarez via Myhealthonline in December, but it was not delivered to him. Apparently that was not the proper medium for expressing appreciation. So I must yelp! Dr. Nevarez has been a life-saver. He has worked hard to get to the bottom of my condition, and then even harder to get me the meds I need. (I really don't like meds, but I'm learning that there is a time for everything!) In addition to medications, Dr. Nevarez readily prescribes PT sessions, and he never neglects to emphasize the importance of exercising. I am particularly thankful that Dr. Nevarez makes time (on top of his hard day's work,) to to respond to my inquiries via Myhealthonline. I am grateful to my Family Physician, Dr. Michael Lewis, for sending me to Dr. Nevarez, who is now also my husband's Rheumatologist. read more

I don't understand all the bad reviews. Dr. Nevarez has a brusk manner, but I've found him to be very thoughtful and thorough. He had very big shoes to fill replacing my previous rheumatologist (who passed away) and he has done an excellent job. I would recommend him to anyone dealing with a rheumatological disease. If you are looking for a Caring, Compassionate, Empathetic Rheumatology Doctor then please steer clear of this person. I have been seen at this practice for my RA for the last 25 years and have been on the same meds for around 20 years. I have always had positive experiences at this practice until I started seeing Dr Navarez in the past couple of years. Today I was told that he has refused to fill my prescription until I see him on 1/10/22 ( the earliest appointment they have available). That's 20 days with no meds!!!!!! Anyone with half a brain and especially a Rheumatologist knows that patients with these serious illnesses cannot go very long without medication. So I can only conclude that this denial of critical meds was purposeful, calculated and punitive because I hadn't seen him in over a year. I cannot comprehend the level of callousness that was exhibited today. There was no compromise - "hey I will give you enough meds to tide you over until we meet" or " we can try to get you in to make sure you don't suffer through the Holidays" - It was just an outright denial. Cold, unfeeling, soul less. When asked what I can do as I am already experiencing pain they suggested I go to the ER or Urgent Care. Thanks Buddy, you are the worst doctor I have ever encountered. I also do not understand the other harshly worded reviews. Dr. Nevarez is thorough and has always listened carefully to my concerns. He ran a battery of tests and got me on a medication plan that quickly helped me out of a dangerous flare about a year ago and has exceeded expectations since. He calls to discuss labs and is responsive over email if I have questions. The office staff is also very kind and patient. Dr. Nevarez is always booked and has to follow strict appointment time limits that, I bet, insurance companies dictate. He works hard and types fast, takes in as much detail as possible and is honest if he needs more time to review labs or run his opinions by colleagues who have more experience. He always follows up as promised. I don't know what more you could ask for in a young doctor. He is the third rheumatologist I have seen in the Bay Area and by far the best in my case. I am glad I found him. read more
