Going on 3 months-Mackrizz/office still hasn't filled my prescriptions correctly. Multiple…read morecalls...for three medications I've been on for several years. Mackrizz/office somehow left 2/3 medications off my prescription order. For the third medication, he ordered two of the same medication...at the WRONG dosage. This was AFTER my third call to his office to have Rx corrected. I just called a 4th time...this time I was noticeably short of breath because his office has still NOT filled my beta blocker Rx. I also learned that according to a specialist I saw, Mackrizz orders unnecessary tests. Tests insurance won't pay for...yet that I must pay out of pocket. It feels like either incompetence or egregious malfeasance. Doctors who "test everything" then bill insurance increase their profits while making insurance unaffordable. My wife, a CRNP, even re-coded inaccurately coded testing so insurance will pay. She gave Mackrizz's office the corrections. They still dropped the ball. I suppose if I had zero inside baseball, I'd just write a review about how he was nice. Nice is great and all. But.... I also feel he misdiagnosed me with asthma and ordered asthma medication I didn't need that insurance didn't cover (Brio-$90). He had this Fisher Price looking device that he (surprise) charged extra to test with. Another $100. I saw a pulmonologist daily for 2 months in an ICU. A year later, I followed up with a second pulmonologist. Respiratory specialists don't diagnose me with asthma after EXTENSIVE testing--yet a Doctor of Osteopathy diagnoses asthma? I understand the numbers were lower from one test to the next. I feel it wasn't about the "respiratory test" but about profitable testing. Furthermore, Mackrizz diagnosed me with hypertension. Same deal-- a specialist I saw many many times--a cardiologist--doesn't diagnose me with HT--yet Mackrizz diagnoses me with HT? My experience with Mackrizz is that he ordered unnecessary tests, that while profitable for him, cost unnecessary out of pocket expenses that don't solve problems I don't even have! He knew there would be charges his office would bill insurance for that insurance wouldn't cover. As soon as you walk in his office, signs preemptively & boldly state this. Clearly, it occurs with enough regularity to create signage. He was nice though. And charming. And seemed thorough. When I complained about the two-hour wait and how I was barked at by a member of his staff for complaining about a two-hour wait he seemed empathetic. But I'm stuck with--maybe $1000 of out of pocket expenses, two incorrect diagnoses, and can't get my prescriptions filled after a visit and multiple phone calls?

Dr. Mertz sets his patients at ease. He doesn't beat around the bush, answers all our questions with a thorough explanation, offers prevention advice, and has a very proficient practice. The paperwork that is shared with the patient is modern and easy to follow. The admin help visibly work off the options of the health insurance I am using. The low waiting times with the waiting room and exam room have been impressive versus what I read of elsewhere. The overall operation is set up to run efficiently, which is too rare in the healthcare industry. The waiting area is large, clean and well-kept. Luckily I found Family Practice Associates of Corpus Christi and was accepted as a new patient. That was about six months ago. Both my wife and I switched to Dr. Mertz. Dr. Mertz is fantastic. He doesn't beat around the bush, answers all our questions with a thorough explanation, and has a very proficient practice. Both my wife and I have seen Dr. Mertz several times since becoming his patients and every time we only spent five to ten minutes in the waiting room and only a couple minutes in the exam room before Dr. Mertz came in. I only wish I had found Dr. Mertz when I retired to Corpus Christi in 2005. My life would have been much better from a medical standpoint.
