The first thing that strikes you on entering is that it can't really be described as a curry house: the term Indian restaurant is far more appropriate. This isn't the sort of place where lagered up lads tolerate ropy food in return for one more pint, but a first rate restaurant where the food takes centre stage. The menu is imaginative and varied without just piling on all the old favourites. You can't just choose your favourite curry, rice and naan and you're away, as all the main courses come with the sundries appropriate to that dish. The emphasis is very much on authentic Indian cuisine, not its spiced up English offspring. It may have garnered something of a reputation for being expensive, but Rajpoot really is a cut above, especially in the presentation stakes. The interior is clean and bright and their excellent service has attracted a large following of loyal regulars. And if the weather's on your side you can relax out front and gaze out across the Downs.

As a converted Georgian town house over looking the Bristol downs, Rajpoot is certainly one of the best located Indian restaurants in the city and as a dining experience it is certainly in a different league to many other eateries around the city. The food here is authentic Indian cuisine and not the bastardized version of it you find in most other places, so if you're looking for a tikka masala, look else where. If you're more serious about your Indian cuisine and want traditional dishes, great service, a wonderful location and that touch of sophistication often missing from similar restaurants, this place is the one for you. The prices are a little steep, but it's very obvious why.

This Indian on Blackboy Hill looks a bit unassuming from the outside - it could be a cafe, pizza…read morerestaurant or anything else from it's exterior. It's actually quite a decent Indian, offering discounts for students and 15% discount on all take-aways. I've only experienced a take-away from here, which was actually very good - I find it difficult to really tell the difference between Indian take-aways, but the food I had was noticeably delicious in comparison to the same dish from elsewhere (a mixed Chicken Tikka). The only slight let down is the price - most things come to around £11 or £12 including rice, which is a bit dear in my opinion (the rice itself is over £2.50). The restaurant's design is minimal, with two rows of seats and sparsely decorated walls - it's a very modern feel, which creates a slightly cold atmosphere - but no doubt the curries will soon warm you up.

Not a bad spot, some pretty good dishes on offer, and a good choice if your after a takeaway. I…read morejust feel it is lacking a bit in character, that spark or flair of originality. A popular stop off for the students in the area, and also they seem to have a set of regulars (well, people who always seem to be in there when I am... they might view me as a regular! ... does that mean I'm a regular! No, I'm not a regular... am I?) who keep coming back which has to be a good sign. The madrass is to particualy hot, that might be a pluss or a minus, depending on the sort of Indian you like!
