There was one cashier at the counter and a long line of people waiting. The only menu available was hanging up behind the counter and had very small print. When it came to be our turn, we were told there would be an hour wait for any food. Since we were visiting from out of town and went there because we love the milkshakes, we asked if we could please get a couple of milkshakes, and we were told no. There are clearly staffing problems here that need to be addressed and some signing that could be added to help people navigate this concept much better. We left and found another place to have lunch.

The service was good, one bartender who was also waiting tables but I didn't wait long for anything I ordered a sweet tea which had a weird flavor so I exchanged it for a Coke which was also weird so I didn't drink it. I ordered a bacon burger but since they only had American cheese, I got mine sans cheese. That said, the burger was good. It was big and really juicy and the thick sliced bacon was a nice addition. I ordered cheese curds instead of fries and they were also good. Definitely not a gormet place, but it was solid. And considering it's the only thing in Niobrara Nebraska, it's great compared to the competition! When the employee noticed our service dog, she immediately said, "No, no, no, no dogs." My husband asked if service dogs were allowed, and she replied, "No dogs. I'm not the owner." Upon my arrival, I met the famous mayor Elsie Eiler on the eve of her 90th birthday. She still makes her way down from her trailer to the restaurant every day, the same establishment she and her late husband Rudy have operated for over half a century. It's incredible she has the energy to keep the place running at her age, a spry woman short in stature who does the cooking and bartending all day every day. Being the only business open in town, excluding the free 5,000-book library around the corner, it's the obvious place to gather amidst the abandoned homes, crumbling vacant post office, and dilapidated church. If you're willing to make this worthwhile drive to remote Nebraska, the biggest surprise is that the food is actually very good! The pizzas are wonderful, defying all logic as to how such a delicious pie could be found so far from civilization.
