We recently completed a major 20 month renovation of our home and property . We literally replaced…read moreand upgraded everything on the inside and outside of our home . We added a major outdoor kitchen structure in the backyard, all new landscaping , uplighting , fencing and the like. Each application ( request ) of the HOA , with the exception of steps and a gate on the side of the lot was approved. We completed our construction on time and within the parameters of the HOA's approval. A retroactive application was submitted for the side yard steps and it too was approved . The person who owns the home behind our property seems to have nothing better to do than to complain about any improvements others make to their properties and did so both to the city & the HOA. BTW, I'm on the Board of this same HOA. An HOA Board member inflamed the situation with the complainer as well. Rather than ask a few simple questions about our improvements the HOA sent a cease & desist letter when our project that was more than 90% complete . We then had a discussion with the Board & Project Approval group who literally couldn't figure out the side yard from the front yard. Then they wanted us to tear down and move our new replacement fence . In checking with many good ( sensible ) neighbors we determined the style of this HOA Board is just bully members into submission. They've been on the Board forever and bring very little value. We'd had enough . We met with the BPE group , they gave us an honest assessment of our options and great council about how we might proceed to protect our rights . They were also very honest about our chances of success and what the cost to us would be to retain their services . At the same time we worked with the City of Roseville to obtain a variance for our fence. BPE wrote letters to the HOA which ultimately required them to obtain council . We thought this was key . "Legal on Legal" was a game changer and necessary unfortunately to bring this matter to conclusion. The HOA insisted on measuring our structure and it was exactly the height as approved . BPE insisted that their lawyer attend the inspection along with BPE. Following this inspection and some 5 months of work with BPE, they decided to stop harassing us knowing they had nothing to take to Mediation. We feel like we received professional and realistic guidance and BPE associates were highly sensitive to our billings . They offered great council with respect to getting a win that's "good enough" and knowing when move on. I highly recommend them if your HOA is treating you unfairly and incorrectly. Randy Riggs

I retained attorneys Tiffany Andrews and Melissa Cantu for my family law matter after my daughter…read morewas born. At the time, my daughter was hospitalized, and I was in a very vulnerable and overwhelmed situation. I had paid the required retainer, but I was repeatedly contacted about additional payments and was pressured to continue paying substantial legal fees. Because I was unfamiliar with the legal process and did not know what other options were available to me, I continued with the representation. Throughout the years they represented me, I questioned several charges on my account that I did not understand or believed were for work that had not been performed. On multiple occasions, Melissa Cantu credited my account after I raised billing concerns. One of my biggest concerns was how the case was handled. After my former spouse and I began communicating and working toward agreements on our own, I felt that I was repeatedly encouraged to continue fighting and pursuing disputes rather than resolving matters when possible. In my experience, this made an already difficult divorce more contentious and increased the amount of time and money I spent on the case. As a single mother dealing with a family law matter during an extremely vulnerable period of my life, I felt that my circumstances and lack of legal knowledge left me particularly vulnerable to pressure regarding legal fees and continuing litigation. My experience left me feeling that I was not being given enough emphasis on resolving matters efficiently when agreements were possible. After the representation ended, I attempted to resolve the remaining fee dispute directly with the office. We mutually discussed and agreed on $7,000 as the amount to resolve the matter, excluding late fees, and I understood this reflected a significant reduction. Based on that agreement, I removed reviews I had previously posted about my experience. After I later emailed to clarify the agreement and the amount being held in the trust account, communication regarding the agreement stopped, and late fees continued to accrue despite my attempts to resolve the issue. I also have concerns about the billing and handling of my case. For example, I questioned charges for periods when my former spouse's attorney was reportedly on medical leave. I was also frequently provided documents shortly before hearings and had very little time to review or understand them, despite repeatedly explaining this concern. I also recently discovered that an FL-141 form I completed and provided to the attorneys may not have been filed. I relied on my attorneys to handle the necessary filings in my case, so this was particularly concerning to me. Overall, my experience left me with serious concerns about billing, communication, case management, and whether the legal strategy being recommended was actually helping me resolve my divorce efficiently. I believe my divorce became more difficult and expensive than it needed to be. I am attaching a screenshot that provides additional context regarding the initial agreement.
