For my annual physical my Dr officd ordered 5 tests. They drew 2 vials of blood and I was good to go. I didn't need to take my arm pressure, fill out extra unnecessary questionnaires, weight, etc. This labcorp is in the walgreens towards the back and very clearly marked. I did have a moment of freak-out, which serves more as a cautionary tale of what not to do. They have two tablets available for walk-in registration and three chairs for people to sit on. I was a walk in on tues at 8 am, used the kiosk, chose "yes wait and be assigned appt" instead of "waiting in store," got an 11 am appointment, told to return, which I believe caused my walk-in name not to move up on the roster. Unproven, but I think it cost me time. I deleted that appointment, re-registered, and said I was waiting in the store. Then I saw my position improve. I was out by 9:15 am.

It's small and not exactly like Labcorp specific locations, you are after all in a Walgreens. Not a lot of chairs and if you decide to wander the aisles, you could easily miss when your name is called. Make an appointment people. Several folks arrived before us and were miffed when we were called within 2 minutes of arriving for our appointment. No idea how many times the techs have to explain why some get called in quicker than others, I overheard one guy had been waiting an hour. There's only a handful of bays inside, 3 maybe 4 and on this day, they were full so I can understand the wait. Again, make an appointment! The good thing about this lab is you can get ice cream, sundries and that last minute Halloween decor after your lab visit. The joys of Walgreens and all it offers! We had an appointment, so for us service was swift and friendly. The tech was professional and accommodating and careful to get exactly what the doctor ordered. Simple bloodwork, completed lickety split. In 5 minutes we were on our way...but not after running into a few people we see every Sunday at church. No surprise, this is the neighborhood Walgreens after all. Parking is decent, but I can easily see it could get busy at this location.

I literally had blood drawn and I didn't even know they stuck me. For over a decade I've had to get regular blood draws from several facilities and many many blood draws when I had cancer. I got needle anxiety from all that poking but I always felt minimal or no discomfort. But today Jorge seemed hellbent on making me feel uncomfortable and insignificant. 1. Rushed me when I was opening my purse to retrieve the ID and insurance card he already asked for 2. Did not acknowledge said cards when I handed them to him. He snatched them from me and walked off without a word 3. He did not ask which arm I preferred for lab draw. In all my entire life as a human being the person who takes my blood ALWAYS asked which arm they could use. Even in a busy Emergency Department they take the time and space to ensure my patient rights and autonomy are honored. I was stunned into silence. But luckily for Jorge he chose the correct arm. 4. He setup and jammed the needle into my arm. No warning. No preparation AT ALL. He just stick me and I was in a lot of pain. I wanted to cry or yell or yank my arm away. I didn't. But I did let him know k was in a lot of pain. He didn't apologize or even seemed like he cared. 5. I asked why didn't he tell me that he was going to poke me. I don't like needles. Having survived cancer and all that poking and poking left me wary of blood draws. EVERY SINGLE BLOOD DRAW BEFORE TODAY has included anticipatory guidance. Jorge said he hadn't heard of it and some people prefer to be poked without being told in advance. I explained that anticipatory guidance is important and he should've given me a choice to have a gentle warning instead of an out-of the-blue painful jab. Another patient overheard our conversation and she wholeheartedly agreed that anticipatory guidance is important. She even explained what it meant since Jorge claimed he was never taught this concept. 6. Jorge shows me a blood tube and asks me to confirm my name. By this point I have no trust in this man. He seems hostile for some reason and is short with me. I'm still upset from his painful treatment of my arm. I ask to visually inspect the tube label closely since I didn't have my glasses. Then I ask to see the remaining tubes which he hands to me....lies them on the table ... when I ask to inspect all of them. I don't trust him and wary of his attention to detail at this point. This review will not be a surprise to him because I told him this was the worst blood draw ever and I've dealt with constant poking with cancer. I was forever being poked and it made me never want to see a needle again. Not because of pain but just emotional wear and tear of that phase in my life. Today when Jorge hurt me it made me feel unsafe because I wondered if had deliberately held back gentleness or a technique to prevent discomfort and anxiety. He was in a funk and I paid for it. If he had further complaints the lab draw station should seriously consider if he's in the appropriate role. And ithe other patient gave me a pittying look. She concurred that she prefers anticipatory guidance to help prevent anxiety and feat of being poked. But nope. Jorge only responded that some people don't wanna know. Well I do and that's my right

The techs themselves were awesome.... but let's talk esthetics-if only for a min or two (a reasonable request since I'm about to donate my blood right)? So right off the bat Ithis lab doesn't come close to the Labcorp in Playa Vista in Jefferson. For starters, it's nowhere near the elevator, so be prepared for a nice hike (like a major u turn) once you get off the elevator on the 2nd floor. But what killed em in this review was the blood splatter on the wall! Not cool....at all. And while the techs indicated that this may have been the result of an unrelated incident or individual having zero to do with Labcorp, the fact of the matter is that the blood is a few feet from your entrance. Translation: It looks like it (the blood) came from YOUR facility. Please do better next time.

But, several people seem to park in the Five Guys parking lot and walk over. One of the things I really like is that it's 5 minutes from my house . Also, while they are a bit robotic about checking you in, they are caring when it comes to the blood drawing. I have a bit of a phobia about it and they are great with me. One thing I don't understand is the appointment visits versus the walk-in visits. You will see them listed on the TV, giving you an indication of when they will call you. But on our last visit, both my wife and I had appointments. Mine was 15 minutes before hers. She was called back first and a few walk-in patients were called before me. But, I will return because of the proximity to my home and the caring when drawing the blood. Hope all goes smoothly for you and...try not to pass out.
