I can no longer engage the parking brake using the button despite the car being in perfect working order when i handed it over to the tester. Very little assistance from the so- called Team leader, they should be ashamed of themselves. They tried to convince me that there was an issue with it pre test even though the car PASSED?? I would seriously question what qualifications their staff have if they can't even operate a parking brake without completely wrecking it. Take pictures and videos before your test because these guys don't care what damage they do.

watching your car go through the series off tests on all the machines is almost as scary as doing…read morean exam or doing your driving test! its so funny to see all the noses squashed up against the glass watching and waiting anxiously like a first time dad to be, then the moment waiting to have your name called and told your car has passed; or not if that is the unfortunate case. in the last couple of years the Nct test is getting harder to pass and if the car fails on a small technicality such as broken windscreen wiper they give you 28 days to do a retest, unlike a couple years ago you could drive to consort, get a new wiper and be back half an hour later and get your passing certificate. but suppose having regularly tested cars means safer vehicles on the road.

The next time I drove the car, the…read morecheck engine light came on - had to dig out the manual to see what the light was as had never had a problem with the car before. We brought the car back immediately and the mechanic switched off the light. Not fix the problem and switch off the light - they switched off the light. Needless to say, the light came back on. I went to a different garage to have it checked since I was still a little shocked at how little they cared that they might have damaged the car. The mechanic put his hand in and it came out covered in oil caused by an oil leak. The oil leak damaged a sensor which caused the warning light. Spent a lot more having the other mechanic repair the damaged parts and check the car than a decent service would have cost. Called Mechanic on Duty to see how this could have happened. They tried to blame the other mechanic without much reasoning or rationale. Then resorted to the standard response that faults can occur at any time - purely a coincidence that oil leaked the day after the oil was changed as part of the service. It could be a coincidence but seems a bit too coincidental. The point of a service is to give comfort that your car is working normally and less likely to break down. Spoke to the mechanic that performed the service. He explained that it was my own fault and that he was "legally entitled" to 3 attempts to fix the car before he had any responsibility. Not sure what that legal entitlement is but he assured me he was since he has been in this situation a few times. I have no doubt that he has. Spent more repairing the car than a service anywhere else would have cost and a lot more effort. Worst customer service experience just added insult to injury.

Among other things they checked the light bulbs and…read morereplaced two of them, found a few bigger issues, so I knew the car is not going to pass as the test was the next day. But one of the issues the car failed the NCT on was the light bulb!!! Aparently the indicator bulb was just laying there not connected. I dont know whether this was the one they replaced or just checked on, it doesn't really matter. You'd think you can trust a mechanic with the light bulbs... So dissapointed with their serive. Called them after and they said to come back so they'll have another look. I decided it was not worth my while going back all way to the south side (im on the north side) just for the light bulb as there is no guarantee they'll do it right.

I am glad I did not do it at their place. My mechanic just used a certain liquid and after 2 minutes the "haze" was gone. He said I could try to use a toothpaste next time as it works sometimes in this case. My mechanic did not charge me for it at all! So try other places before you repair anything at Crofton Motors.

The whole system is…read moreblocked out so there's no stress with queuing etc. I found everyone I dealt with, from the marshal to the receptionist, extremely amenable and friendly which was unexpected in a facility such as this. There is a waiting room up high with windows that enables you to look down at your car in the garage, a bit like in a maternity ward in a hospital. Lots of anxious pacing parents waiting to hear their fate. I give it three stars as an NCT centre is never going to be a pleasurable place to spend your time, and also a cafe or something wouldn't go amiss. They have a vending machine but that's about it.

I am waiting as I write this feeling like an expectant father... maybe this is what a maternity ward should be like... all the mothers lined up under a viewing gallery with the public watching on, commenting on technique and trying to read the doctors facial expressions... er...maybe not! The toilets are a bit basic but then, what do you expect in a big garage?
