Tyre & Service Superstore

Tallaght

I recently brought my car to the Tyre and Service Superstore in Tallaght for a standard service…read more While I can't fault the mechanical work (as I'm obviously not a specialist, nor can I check it myself), the customer service aspect left a sour taste--to put it mildly. I received a call informing me that besides the service, both my tyres and brake pads needed replacing. Now, on the tyres, I'd seen them just before the service, and they look fine to me--easily another millimetre before they hit the wear indicators, so I've got time. As for the brake pads, the wear sensor light hasn't even blinked yet. The moment I gently declined the immediate tyre change, stating I'd monitor them, the whole conversation shifted. I was essentially attacked and condescendingly informed that I was "not a specialist" (a fact I had not disputed) and that he, the specialist, had a duty to inform me (which I had already acknowledged and accepted). When I re-confirmed that I was not replacing the tyres, the representative was visibly offended, becoming distinctly rude and unpleasant. To top it off, when I collected the car, it had been 'washed' but was left streaky on the outside and quite grubby on the inside. Perhaps my previous experiences have spoiled me, but a basic clean, or at least a wiped-down interior, seems to be standard practice at any respectable service centre. Ultimately, it felt less like a professional advisory service and more like a high-pressure sales tactic backed by outright rudeness. I appreciate being informed of potential issues, but I expect a professional response, not a petulant, aggressive reaction when I choose to manage my own maintenance schedule. przetlumacz mi na polski

Been here to buy new tyres and got into a pile of issues. I bought 2 new ones for the front and…read moreasked them to move my old front ones to the back as they were in better condition than the back ones, since they had much less mileage. As soon I got to the front desk, the guy just asked for my car key and took a note on a tiny paper about the service to be done, without asking for my name or even the registration plate... Very strange, as instead of having a printed form since I've booked and choose the tyres/service online he had to write it down there again! So, one hour later I arrived just to find out that they put the new tryes on the front as asked BUT trashed my front good ones and kept the back old worn ones! Not what I've asked, so had to demand for my good old ones and wait again to finish the job as requested, since now they had to find my good tyres and install those on the back. While doing that, the guys just elevated my car with a manual jack on the back wheels on the road without even gearing up by just using the hand brake... And since my hand brake doesn't work 100% I did feel that at same stage the car could move and land on the floor without wheels... Not good. Not professional! At the same time the wheel alignment on the website booking service shows 40€ and at the shop it's 50€. I explained that, and the manager didn't charge that, but prices should be clear enough and not having this basic mistakes as I shouldn't have to be explaining their errors! For last, I got 2 new tyres that are dirty, marked and scratched, probably from handling and drag them on the floor... They're new but they look OLD on the sides! I know, they are just tyres... but new stuff should look NEW!!!!

Baldoyle

I was just thinking about my experience with Baldoyle Auto Centre, and decided to write a review…read more I am from the USA (San Francisco) where auto repair can be rather, shall we say, predatory. Not in all cases, but in more than half, you're going to get gutted. Imagine my trepidation on moving to Ireland, buying a used VW Polo and having a loud BANG emminate from the engine compartment, followed by the smell of burning rubber. I'm in country 3 weeks. Don't know Polos ("3 cylinders? You're kidding!"), don't know ANY auto repair I can trust. Well, I had hired a carpenter who lived in Howth (near Baldoyle) all his life. He recommended Baldoyle Auto Centre. So I limped over there and threw myself on the mercy of the owner. I noticed his shop was clean and well-lighted. His workers were all very focused. No cigarettes. No shaved heads. No track suits. Hmmmm. The owner made a lot of eye contact in a way that led me to trust him. Sincerity is detectable. He said he could look at the car in a few days. He gave it a going over to make sure it was safe, then turned me loose. The problem was likely a broken spring. The car handled ok. The burning rubber smell was the serpentine belt, which had been crudely manhandled onto the car by a previous mechanic, damaging it. I returned in three days, the car was surrendered and I was kept abreast of the findings in the shop as work progressed. No unpleasant surprises. Broken spring. (replaced both sides at the same time. Minimal cost). Upper strut mount mangled, which caused the spring failure. Cheap fix. A bushing on the opposite side of the car required replacement. OK. Do it. And throw in a set of hubcaps because on Ireland's narrow roads, I had beaten the set on the car up pretty badly. Total cost: 400 euro. The car drives like new and the hubcaps helped with the cosmetics. Further, I was told that all the things that likely go wrong with Polos had now been fixed on this car, giving me peace of mind for the foreseeable future. It is so difficult to find trustworthy auto repair facilities, so when you find one, you want to share it with your friends, and that's what I'm doing here and on the streets. I later became aware of the amazing story of how Baldoyle Auto Centre came into being, but that's another subject. You can trust these people implicitly. What's THAT worth to you?
