I had a new water pump put in, in December as my car was overheating. I paid over 500 euro. The car…read moreon Saturday started overheating again so I rang them and they asked to bring the car down to them on Monday. I tried phoning them Monday but couldn't get an answer the phone kept ringing out, so no one answered, as I wanted to let them know that I couldn't drive the car that far and I was going to have to take my cat to another garage nearer to me, just 2 mins away from me. I did that and the other garage fixed it, the pipe near the water pump was loose and the clip halfway down. And they had to modify it to make sure it fitted. It cost me 120 euro, as I said I couldn't drive the car to Donnybrook as it would have been to dangerous for me to drive thar far. I am disappointed.

I have been making excuse not to use it for the last month and now I have a doozey, the front right hand tyre has a huge gouge out of it I hadn't noticed before. Eventually I had to pluck up the courage to move from my lovely Micra to the 2.4 Ltr tank that is the S60. My first port of call was Fast Fit. The guys are helpful and friendly, gave me all sorts of advice, replaced the tyre (a crippling 110 Eur) and then said...erm.. how long have you been driving this car? I say something in the region of 30 mins, they say "your breaks are shot to hell, not safe, we can fix em" Well, the shop does say fast fix.. I say ok, I drop the car in 2 days later and 90 mins after that I am road legal and safe again. Now all I have to do is learn how to park the blasted thing.....

It was not very slow really....the tyre was pretty much losing half its…read morepressure in a day although of course I had been looking at it for weeks wondering if it maybe looked a little bit flat. Doh! Anyway, following discussion with a taxi driver (well, they know about driving cars), I pottered along to Phoenix Tyres in the hopes of getting it fixed. It had occurred to me that the treads seemed a bit low but was hoping they weren't too bad. Pitched up and was greeted straight away. There was no wait and one of the guys came and took off the wheel. It was not a pretty sight. I think the guards would have slapped me quite hard if they'd seen the state of it. The baldness may also have explained my interesting wheel spins... A new tyre was definitely required. I have a bit of a fear of being ripped off as a single female but the guys here were great. They listed my options in both brand and price and advantages of one brand over another. When I mentioned that an uncle works in a tyre place at home they suggested Bridgestone because he could easily get me a matching one for the other side if I didn't want to buy it from them. It was fitted in no time. Price? Not quite as cheap as Scully Autocare but reasonable. They have a website at www.alloys.ie and seem to be the people to go to if you drive like me and tend to be attacked by kerbs. Saw another woman pull up with a badly dented alloy while I was there and they were happily setting about fixing it!

Dropped it off asap at Phoenix, nice and friendly and then went on my way by taxi. Dropped back after lunch to be met with the good news that all tyres were fine and the problem was a slight difference in pressure between the two sides. I asked to pay them something for their time but they point blank refused - got to be unusual in these days and times. Anyway, you can guess where I'll be headed when next I need a new tyre or a repair.
