Requested two strand twists. Although the quality of the work was good, it wasn't what I asked for. I have three strand twists throughout my whole head and I can't put them in a style how I would like. I just would like what I asked for or at least let me know. read more

Don't walk run. I've had natural hair for the past 20 years and soo very picky for being dissatisfied with most touching my hair. I did the big chop again November 22. My hair was wild and uneven plus grey. Being new to Philly I researched all the natural places, and with me only wanting a cut/trim to make this in between stage work, I decided on N'bushe Natural Salon. Made an appointment for a trim online (so glad I didn't need a consult before making an appointment). My appointment was at 9am. I showed up at 9:02. So glad my tech was ready to go. She gave me a box cut on my twa to give it shape and walked out so happy (rare). I showed her a pic and I'm happy to say her cut mimicked it exactly...this has never happened. She listened to my needs and executed it. I walked out feeling superfly. My cut that was given will grow out my hair and happy to visit for upkeep and styling. Thank you N'bushe Natural. This was a first visit but won't be a last! read more

I love getting my hair done here. I have been to numerous salons and I think this salon is awesome. It is easy to schedule online. They are always on time. We talk about my hair care and options. Always great feedback. I trust them with my loc needs. It is clean and very professional. read more

Ok so back in the day, Nafeesa used to do my hair when she was at Duafe. I'm sure she doesn't remember:). In fact, she did my hair when I was interviewing for medical school- I got into my top choice:) Now, I'm back in Philly, in residency and she has her own shop! It's a beautiful calm space. I've been there twice, each was a positive experience. This last time, she did my hair. I had been up for nearly 24 hours and I sat in her chair and said "could you shave the back and do what you want with the rest?" Then I fell asleep, waking up every few minutes to laugh and join in the conversation they were having- in hindsight that must have looked weird. Anyway, she put my locs in this amazing updo, I made it to the Kendrick Lamar concert ON TIME, lol, and I've received several compliments at work and even made some new friends. The style was life-changing! I'm sure I will find a husband now,IJN x-D haha! Thanks for hooking me up!! read more

Very professional, fast service and will educate you how to care for you hair. They are my go to!

This was the worst salon experience i've ever had in my life. Came here some time ago and the salon owner, who "did my hair" was arrogant regarding her "knowledge" about natural hair but in reality knew nothing about my hair type. I was explaining a style I wanted AND had the exact photo and she tried to replicate it without telling me she didn't really know how. As a result, not only did my hair turn out horribly, but my hair type was also insulted. I've been natural for almost 2 years now and she told me that I had "fine" hair so I couldnt get the style that she suddenly figured she could NOT achieve at the end of the service. First, my hair is far from "fine." I think it's rare to even find a black woman with fine hair. So when I told her that's not true, my hair is thick, she proceeded to argue with me about the texture of my hair. I am very knowledgeable regarding natural hair texture and my own hair. I have been doing it since I went natural and my hair is now down my back. Simply, this service was a waste of money and I would not recommend this salon to anyone. read more

My first-time experience at N'Bushe was AMAZING from start to finish. When I walked in, I was greeted by the stylist Nafeesa and her team. I really appreciated that, because I've walked into salons before (including the one that used to operate in this very space, before Nafeesa took it over), and been assaulted by the "Mean Girls" looks of stylists and patrons alike, muggin' me like I stole all of their boyfriends. It would make me feel like they were saying, " What's she doing here?" Um, I'm here to spend MY MONEY at YOUR BUSINESS. Hello?... But I digress -- back to my POSITIVE experience... After being greeted at the door, I walked in to observe an extremely clean, well-decorated environment, with relaxing lighting and a wonderful calming fragrance in the air. My senses were happy and I felt welcomed and comfortable. The kindly receptionist took my coat, and almost immediately I was headed back for a shampoo. I was already impressed, but now the shampoo stepped it up a notch. The young man who helped me did a great job of really getting into my scalp, to address itching and to make my hair feel really, really clean. It's frustrating when you get a shampoo and seem to get your scalp scratched everywhere EXCEPT in that really itchy spot, but this young guy was right on the money, without my even having to say a word. I loved the smells of lemongrass and peppermint that were wafting up as he worked. And the final rinse was so luxurious, with a steaming vessel of warm water being poured on my hair, Cleopatra of the Nile style. On to Nafeesa, who took the experience up to even higher levels. Her gentile, southern manner and her speed and efficiency were so impressive. She kept the conversation light and friendly, so there wasn't all that ' hood shop talk, that can just get too crude and deep, in a space where you're just trying to relax and get pampered for a bit. I also loved that Nafeesa didn't do that thing that stylists can sometimes do, when they work on you for the first time, or haven't worked on you in awhile -- you know, the, " Ooooh, what's going on here," or " Oooh, who's been doing your hair lately," guilt trip, shame-you-into-extra-products/services thing? None of that went down. SO appreciated. Nafeesa also asked me questions about my hair and scalp that NO stylist has EVER asked me before, demonstrating her deep, holistic knowledge of her craft. In 90 minutes, I was in and out, with a beautiful updo that has been garnering major compliments ever since. Did I mention that in those 90 minutes, Nafeesa completed mine and 2 other women's hair? Yes, 3 clients serviced in 90 minutes. All you ladies who spend the whole day in the salon to get primped, had better get with the program! I have NOTHING bad to say about this wonderful lady and this wonderful place. I'm thrilled about this fantastic find and I will be back on a regular basis. Many thanks to the fellow Yelpers who gave N'Bushe Salon all the props that put it on my radar, and kudos to Nafeesa for her class and professionalism! read more

If I could give this place more stars I would. I made an appointment and went yesterday. Everyone was so down to earth when I got there. I told them I had an appt and my stylist was Sade and she took me back immediately. I have transitioning hair ( no perm in over 8 years but I have heat damage) and I wanted twists. She washed my hair and conditioned it. Then she started twisting my hair. She has skills!!! I'm so happy my hair didn't unravel she put perm rods on my ends and sat me under the dryer for about 20mins then I was done. I was in there for no longer than 2 hours. I'm trying to let my hair grow so I can cut off my heat damage and just wear my curls. They have a new client for life. I am very skeptical about who I let in my hair but hey made me feel so comfortable I will definitely be back. read more

N'bushe Natural - Twist done on transitioning hair. I love it! - Hair Salons Near Me - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

I recently decided to try this whole "loc" thing for the THIRD time! lol My biggest issue was finding a salon with a really chill vibe where I felt relaxed (no cattiness or ugly gossiping), with professional, knowledgeable stylists who utilized only natural products, and wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg! I've found ALL of the above at N'bushe! I'm so mad I didn't go to them YEARS ago!! I'd be a lot further along in my loc journey if I had. Nafeesah, the salon owner, is my loctician - and she is AWESOME! She has the sweetest disposition - as do all the other ladies who work there, and she's amazing at what she does! She has my locs washed and re-twisted faster than any other loctician I've ever gone to. And they are very reasonably priced! I seriously can't think of any complaints about this place! I'd definitely suggest anyone in the Philadelphia area looking for a natural hair salon to try them out! You won't be disappointed!! read more

N'Bushe is hands down THEE best salon I have ever been to. As a previous reviewer stated, oftentimes you can go to the hair salon and feel unwelcome, or like there is an attitude or negative atmosphere, here there is a warm and welcoming vibe as soon as you walk into the door. The salon is clean and smells like peppermint, the decor and the music really give it a nice vibe . I was going to start locs at another salon in the area, but decided to come here because of the positive reviews. The reviews are spot on . The service can be on the pricy end, but you get what you pay for and you are paying for great quality service and atmosphere. I will definitely be a returning customer here. read more

This place is great! Nafeesah is excellent, efficient, and always on time. Her products are amazing and make my hair look and smell great! Anyone with natural hair or who may be considering going natural should check out this salon. The location is convenient and easy to get to from Center City. You won't be disappointed! read more

I never write reviews but thought this was well deserved...I went to nbushe after reading reviews online and was amazed @ the salon as well as the stylist....Nafeesa was professional as well as fun and creative. I showed her a picture and she did my hair exactly like it..When she finished and passed me the mirror again amazed @ her work..I was beyond satisfied and have received so many compliments..I will definitely be back ...Thanks again for this beautiful hairstyle I was a hit @ my nieces wedding...:) read more

I love N'Bushe! Professional, efficient and reasonably priced! I have free flowing natural hair and don't go to salons often but this place is solid. I live around the corner from them and I hope they stay. What I love most is that you can book appointments online and they actually keep them!! No mix ups or confusion during my appointment. This place is great! I can't wait to go back for a steam treatment. read more

As a first-time client I was extremely satisfied with N'bushe from the beginning to end. I know how valuable feedback is for both the business as well as prospective clients so I will try to be as detailed as possible. After reading the reviews on Yelp I decided to go in for the consultation as I was looking for a great stylist to do a major hair transformation on me. I viewed their website and scheduled my appointment via the online scheduler. I arrived on time and the stylist Nafeesa was ready for me as soon as I walked through the door. That alone scored major points...the online scheduler system worked out without any issues whatsoever. The salon was clean and orderly the receptionist as well as her assistant were very friendly and accommodating. We discussed my hair needs and she explained everything in detail and just by looking at my hair was able to identify things that I needed to do to improve the health of my hair and scalp. Everything she said was on point with what I already knew was going on with my hair. She made excellent recommendations as far as products and dietary changes to get my hair to optimal health. I had gone to a few other salons for consultations by far she made my decision very easy. She knows hair and was very warm and welcoming. I was able to book an appointment for the next day... The day of my appointment I arrive on time and again she was ready for me...two for two...no wait at all walked in and got in her chair. I was a little nervous because I was doing a major hair cut and of course I was turned away from the mirror...but I'm just taking deep breaths feeling very confident that she would give me the look we discussed. She cut me and then followed up with my color and then had me under the dryer within the first half hour. Another client came in and she started on her while I was under the dryer but still attentive to me and the color. I was then taken back to the wash room by her assistant...after my wash I was taken back out and immediately back into the chair to get my hair styled. She styled my hair then sent me back to the dryer returning to the other client in her chair. She had things moving like a well oiled machine. While I dried she finished the other client and once I was done drying she was ready for me to finish me up. She put the finishing touches on the cut and finger styled my free flowing natural do. I'm not going to lie I was nervous to see when she was done but when she handed me the mirror and ease came over me. I loved it!!! I showed her pics of the type of cut I was looking for and she was able to give me exactly what I wanted. I am just overjoyed after being scarred by salons with horrible time management and poor customer service to find a stylist and salon that I have no complaints about. I will definitely go back and recommend her for anyone that is looking for a great stylist that you can stick with for years. read more

Mediocre work. As a new customer, the welcome to the salon was flat (not including waiting in the cold until the stylist decided respond to my attempts to enter the salon). Information on the salon, its products, etc. was not given. Before the appointment, I presented my own hair cream that I specifically requested to use and the stylist blatantly ignored my request. Rather, she felt the need to correct me and not follow my request. My locs were not twisted from the root to the end, rather only at the root where new growth was seen...this is unfinish work. Overall, an hair appointment experience I could have done without. read more

Nafeesa is hands down one of the best locticians in the city! She was friendly and very knowledgeable about natural hair. She was fast and I left with a really creative hair style. I received so many compliments and I was extra pleased with my hair! The only downside is that it was kinda pricey, but when I wanna splurge I will def go back!!!!! read more

N'bushe Natural is a very inviting salon. The atmosphere is relaxing and the locticians and staff are very accommodating and knowledgeable. I came in for starter locs and was instantly reassured that I had made the correct salon choice upon entering the salon. I would highly recommend this salon to anyone looking for a salon that offers great service for natural hair. read more

I had my first consultation today with Nafeesah and the vibe was very inviting. There was tasteful music playing and nice scent flowing through the salon. Nafeesah was knowledgeable and her advice was sound. I will definitely go back for at least a trim and rod set. read more

This place is great, and the vibes are wonderful. I recently took out my locs myself that I had for over 20 years. Afterwards, I was left with a tangled, matted mess. I can't remember the name of the sister who did my hair, but she was WONDERFUL and extremely meticulous with my hair. By the time she was done, my hair was soft, completely detangled, trimmed, and awesome looking for days and days. This in itself was a miracle because I've never seen anyone with hair thicker than mine! I highly recommend this salon. Also, the hair oils they sell smell amazing. read more

All I can say is N'Bushe is the best for natural hair. I wanted starter locs and went to a natural hair salon in June and didn't get what I wanted. I went to another place in September and wow what a waste of time and money, but lets get to the positive. When you walk into N'Bushe the atmosphere is calm and inviting. My stylist, Neff, offered to take my jacket to hang it up and proceeded to take out my 2 strand twists. Neff colored my hair (I love the color), washed and conditioned my hair and then did 2 strand twists in record time. I am very pleased with my hair and I will be returning in 3 weeks and I look forward to my next visit. read more

I was 20 mins late for my appointment and yet I was greeted with a warm hello - how may I help you. Shade did my twist out (first time getting them) on my tapered cut and I absolutely love it. I've been going to NY to get my hair done. I found a new home! I highly recommend This professional salon. read more

I'm a first time client at N'Bushe and first time at a salon that services natural hair. I have to say my overall experience was wonderful. I called them the same day I was serviced and inquired about there walk-in polices. The owner was more than helpful and informed me if I could get there within a certain time frame they would be able to fit me in. So when i arrived at the salon I was greeted by the gentleman who would be styling my hair. He took me straight back and began my shampoo. He gave me very helpful tips on how to manage my very unmanageable hair in my opinion. I received a two strand twist that came out wonderful although I haven't completely cut all the perm off my ends. However Nafeesa did inform that they could take a little off at a time so i would feel comfortable. Overall I found this salon to be very professional, clean and wonderful atmosphere read more

I have been getting my hair done by Nafeesa for years. Years before she moved to Philly. And I have followed her everywhere she has moved to. I only trust her and her daughters (Sade and Meeka) N'Bushe 2 Hair Studio http://www.nbushe2hairstudio.com/ with my hair, and as long as I can fly, drive, train or bike to where they are these are the only people that I will allow to do my hair. read more

I was robbed!!! So I was looking for a natural hair Salon and stylist. A coworker with locs told me about this salon. Even gave the owner tons of compliments. I go there on a Saturday morning for my big chop and boy was i excited. I went there before but was scared to cut it off. Anyway I finally did it. Now i shopped around for prices and an average big chop and style was around $65. But i only wanted a chop. So i didnt ask how much (that was my fault) I was charged $100 plus $20 tip (because regardless i tip well) $120 dollars for you to CHOP my hair off..and then ask my if i wanted in a style because "she can't walk around like that" says the owner ..as if the styling was on the house. She didnt tell me any additional pricing but waited until she had my card in hand. Great hustle....poor customer service She new she robbed me because she didnt even ask "so you want to set up another appointment?" Last money i will ever spend at any salon (sorry for the rant but when you get robbed like that..it leaves a bad taste in your mouth) read more

This is an updated review. I was totally upset and out of line. My conditioner was returned to me the way I left it. Giving them four stars due to the high pricing. read more

I wanted to get a short natural haircut and did not know where to go. My hair was at least shoulder length and I wanted to make sure I picked a good place. I read the reviews for N'Bushe and they were all very good and consistent over the years. I went to the salon one day and showed them a picture of the type of haircut I wanted and that was it. My decision was made. I set up an appointment with the owner Nafeesah and off we go. The salon itself is very nice with a tranquil atmosphere. Everyone who works there and who came through the door was also very nice and a reflection of the salon. Once my hair was done I fell in love with it. Nafeesah cut my hair in such a way that it seemed effortless. She is definitely a master with a pair of scissors and clippers. I will definitely be returning when a trim is needed. Loved the whole experience. read more

I found N'bushe while I was looking for a salon to style my natural hair for my August wedding. After a disappointing trial at a different salon, and after getting the runaround on appointment scheduling at another, N'bushe was like a breath of fresh air. Scheduling was easy, I've never had such a relaxing, spa-like experience at a salon before, and the products used on my hair were top-notch (and smelled amazing). I was looking for a simple but elegant flat twist style for my wedding, and this was executed beautifully during a trial run and on the big day by Neff. I'm so pleased with my wedding style, and I plan to return to N'bushe whenever I need a style for a special occasion. read more
