Nice teller they were able to change dollar to coin for free without an account so that's cool.

Person I talked to was very nice but if you are looking for a place to exchange currency, don't bother unless you have an account with them.

Vermont Federal Credit Union

Vermont Federal Credit Union

We've been members of Vermont Federal Credit Union for 26 years. In fact, my husband was a member…read morebefore it was actually Vermont Federal CU and was the Government Employees Credit Union. (I think I have the name right.) We've had decades of experience. The $25 Fee Mentioned in Other Reviews The $25 fee is not actually taken from you. It's a credit union not a bank, so that's your membership fee. If you cancel your account, you get it back. That's not a problem to us. Exceptional Tellers The tellers at any of the locations are outstanding. They always have a smile on their face and get to know customers by name. I like that aspect. It's nice to go in and feel important rather than brushed aside like some of the banks I've used in the past do in the rush to get people in and out of their line. Slow to Get New Credit/Debit Cards Out and Be Careful Where You Make Purchases I second that if your card is compromised through a hack, such as we faced with TJ Maxx and Hannaford, it takes a few weeks before the new card arrives. It leaves you with nothing to do but either go to the bank to get cash or write checks for a few weeks. The other issue happened too many times to my son. VTCFU hates certain online stores, NewEgg being one of them. He placed many orders with NewEgg to have his card declined. He'd think he entered the number wrong, but still not have it go through. He'd go to use his card elsewhere and find the card had been frozen. No matter how many times he told them NewEgg is a respectable online store for computer parts, whatever company manages the credit and debit card transactions kept putting the freeze on, even when he called first to alert them that he'd be buying parts from NewEgg. He gave up and changed to another credit union and no longer has that issue. Getting Issues Resolved Most of the time, getting any issues resolved or questions answered is simple. I don't bother calling anymore. They are not as quick to answer phones and I don't like having to decide what number to push. It's much simpler to log-in on your computer and submit a help ticket through the online system. I usually have the answer I need within an hour. The Aforementioned "Most of the Time" Here's where I do get frustrated and the reason I cannot give them four or five stars, and my three-stars is tentative at best. Someone recently made the decision to move some loan payment dates up from the end of the month to mid month. I was told it was for easier tracking with all the loans they offer. Anyone with a due date of the 30th was being moved to the 15th, like it or not. While they did give the required two-weeks notice, during property tax season when you're paid twice a month and can't change when you're paid, two weeks is not enough time to get money together to cover a bill that wasn't supposed to be due until the end of the month. The advice I got was to pay the loan late, and that wouldn't matter because we had a 15-day grace period. We could essentially keep paying on the 30th and not be penalized. After reading over our loan paperwork, paying late would in fact have mattered. The 15-day grace period I was told we have is actually 10 days per the paperwork. Being fed incorrect information doesn't make for a happy customer.

Not responsive and several of their people don't seem to know what they are doing. Very…read moredisappointed as I would like to use a credit union!

First round with TD: nice guy in Springfield, MA…read more Second Round: Burlington, VT- young guy- probably the youngest guy working at TD that works with accounts. Basically, we had an overdraft charge, though with overdraft protection on a new student account. We had not engaged the account in any business activity, were new to town and to make a long story short- the bank, in good faith given the circumstances, should have refunded the fees ($55 total) as extenuating circumstances arise. Well, this guy (a kid really- 23 years old perhaps) working there sits behind the desk, picking at his cuticles and condescendingly speaking to my girlfriend and me about how we "would not learn a lesson" from the experience of the overdraft and then late fee erroneously applied. I told this fellow that TD Bank is not in the business of educating people about personal finance, but in the business of making money through their customers including charging dubious fees that arise from convoluted business practices. In the end, he acquiesced, pulling the whole "I'm feeling nice today" BS, and the fees we removed. His communication was piss poor, attitude- cocky- just a cheap suit paper pusher that had to bow down to basic reasoning, decency, and using good judgement- all which he seemed to lack. Next time we walked in, he was flirting it up with a couple young coeds at the same desk while we worked with another, more respectful bank representative. This fellow is the reason TD Bank Burlington gets two stars- the kid alone commands a failing grade.

Do not do business with TD Bank. If you have accounts, move to another bank immediately. Get away…read morefrom them before you are affected by their terrible customer service and policies. I've had trouble with ATM machines, credit cards, CD accounts, and deposits. The final straw for me was when I tried to deposit a certified check with guaranteed funds and they put a week long hold on the money. They had no justification for this, the check was drawn from the same account that has been direct depositing my paychecks for the last 8 years. Their policies state they will make $100 available immediately and more on the following business day. This didn't happen, so they found another policy about fraudulent checks to quote. They considered a certified bank check from another local bank a possible fraud? They will do everything in their power to not honor the check. If one policy isn't followed, they will just make up a new one. I will not tolerate this type of poor service any longer. I am closing all my accounts immediately and recommend that everyone else do the same.

She was told what ID to bring and that it would take about 5 minutes. The second time, we arrived at 415 (the earliest she can get there) to find that they close at 4 on Thursdays for no apparent reason The third time, we arrived on Friday at 415. They stay open until 5 on Fridays. We were the only customers- there were 3 employees there. We were told that they couldn't possibly open the account then , and that she needs an appointment ( something i have NEVER had to do in nearly 60years of banking). She scheduled an appointment for Saturday. The FOURTH visit, we arrived on time. There was another family opening an account but again it was nearly empty. We got right in and they opened up a checking account. We attempted to set up mobile banking and downloaded the app. We could not input the information as the app wasn't responding. Then they went to create the debit card( the entire reason for our FOUR visits). Note they advertise instant debit cards. And....... They cannot currently get their machine to work so they have to mail it. AND we wasted a half hour there this morning NOT just 5 minutes. Do yourself a favor and find a better bank- theres plenty of choices out there

She was clearly not doing any banking transaction, just talking to the teller. After 20 minutes and a long line had formed I asked the teller if there was any teller backup support she could call on. She said no. 5 minutes later some guy comes in off the street wanting to buy a roll of quarters. Frustrated by the line he starts walking through the offices until he finds the branch manager who comes out and opens up another teller window. If your tellers can't tell the truth and your branch manager can't see the long line and a problem, you don't belong in a customer service organization. Most banks are fast, efficient and care about their customers. Citizen's Bank does not.

He even walked me through getting back into the account online and setting up access into it which I am so grateful for, and explained how the stocks and investment portion of Charles Schwab works because I was not well versed on it at all. Absolutely HORRIBLE. Because of a People's United clerical error, I am being harassed at work by a collection's agency. For money I ALREADY PAID to People's United! Here is what happened. I kept detailed notes: 1) On 8/13/2012, I called People's United about my account closure. I asked for the remaining amount left on the balance, so I could write a check for this exact amount. 2) I mailed the check in by certified mail the next day. 3) On 8/24/2012, the check cleared from my new checking account. 4) On 9/7/2012, I received a letter in the mail telling me that my account had been transferred to a collection's agency! 5) I IMMEDIATELY called People's United. They told me that they still showed I owed a balance. They "believed me" that the check had cleared, but said the department which could confirm that was closed for the weekend. 6) I was told they'd call me on Monday to clear this up. I missed (what I believe) was their call by 2 seconds. When I tried to call back right away, it said the number was disconnected! Google confirmed this is STANDARD customer service for them; they call you and you CANNOT CALL THEM BACK. 7) About an hour later I started getting calls from the collection agency. What is the amount of this debt, you may wonder? $36. The account has been closed for less than a month and People's immediately sent it to a collection's agency even AFTER I paid it. I'm utterly baffled by the completely awful, horrific level of customer service. NEVER again. DO NOT sign up for People's United.

Other than that, I have had a nightmarish experience using them as my mortgage lender, mainly dealing with their loan processor in Brattleboro but also their rep in Rutland, after the Addison County rep quit a few weeks into our process with them. They are not responsive; they are incredibly difficult to deal with; they are rude and defensive when dealing with customers who are upset because the most expensive & important transaction of their lives isn't going smoothly; according to our lawyer and realtor they seem way outside industry standard with their requirements (e.g. 48 hours out from closing after we have the clear to close they now need more paperwork that was either sent to them previously or could have been if they'd asked for it two months ago, like the inspection, and they won't allow us to close with a personal property addendum for one piece of furniture even though it was in the contract they've had on file for two months now). I was only lukewarm on my personal banking experience with them due to their poor online interface for ebanking, but after this fiasco I will be closing all my accounts.
