Well, we all know there are no accidents, right? While the other physicians I came across with at various One Medical locations didn't do much for me, Dr Fox turned out to be the most caring and compassionate physician I have ever met. Not only does she seem to genuinely care and listen (those qualities are so rare today!), but also follows through every issue I might have. Also, she's never hesitant to discuss more than one issue during a visit if time allows and seems to follow a holistic approach. (Again, this is such a rarity today!) She's always within reach and answers to her emails in a timely maner. If she's away from the office, she's sure to refer me to one of the other physicians at the 14th Street location who also have been wonderful. I am so glad I found her and yes, I renewed my membership for the third year. After my doc left, I was referred to her, but her bedside manner left many things to be desired. In both my visits she dismissed a few of my medical issues and made out of the box suggestions which were fringe even for a DO. Her misunderstanding of modern western medicine and choice to believe studies not accepted in mainstream medicine, are both concerning and upsetting. When I discussed a suggestion she made to me with another physician, they were shocked, and confirmed that I was in fact right. If you want a hippy-dippy, not qualified DO, she's the one for you, otherwise run far, far from her.

I joined One Medical after hearing amazing things about this practice. I called in and mentioned…read morethe kind of issues I needed to discuss: hormonal, thyroid related, birth control. They then suggested I see this woman who calls herself a doctor. I went to see her and I clearly had laryngitis because I kept coughing and my voice left a lot to be desired. She first mentioned 'oh, so you have laryngitis, but that is not why you are here today...' and completely ignored the fact, not checking my throat and lungs, not asking how long I had had it, etc. In the half hour I was with her she barely made eye-contact, keeping her gaze on the screen... as I later found out, seeking info she lacked. We discussed my thyroid issues and the birth control options before me. We talked about the option of a diaphragm, she is, after all 'a birth control expert' and I asked how it works. She said you stick it in before sex and immediately after sex you pull it out. I asked 'really? immediately after?', she repeated herself and said yes, immediately after. I mentioned that I had read somewhere that in order for it to work it has to remain inside for at least a few hours. She then said she would look it up, she turned to her computer and printed out a page, where it said the diaphragm had to be kept inside at least six hours. She was too wrong to mention. I mentioned I could start using that method after the hormonal period of the current method is over. She said I didn't have to wait for that period to be over, who cares I have hormonal issues, let's mess with them a bit more and interrupt an estrogen dose just because! I asked her if the hormonal birth control had anything to do with my thyroid, and she said it didn't, because, as the all knowledgeable doctor said, there is no scientific fact that hormones are related! I asked her if the fact that I quit smoking at the same time I started with the hormonal birth control had anything to do with the fluctuation in my body... she said it did not... of course, why would it? I mean, nicotine doesn't affect metabolism, does it? I mean, that wouldn't be the reason millions of people use it to lose weight, right? I asked her how effective a diaphragm really is as birth control, she answered, 'well, you can use it if you don't really mind getting pregnant...' really? is that a real answer? She was quite unhelpful and undoctorly. I was beyond appalled when this private practice supposedly has such a high name. I have since then been to another doctor within the same practice who was much more helpful and friendly and actually cared and knew what she was talking about. "DR" Lansen should have her license taken away.

Their offices are clean and the staff is very professional and warm. There are many locations all over the city and it gives me comfort to know if I needed a doctor in a pinch, I could most likely get an appointment on the same or next day. Lab testing is extremely easy to schedule since they have flexible hours and you can just walk in. Lab results can easily be sent to me via email. Prescriptions can be emailed directly to my pharmacist. I love the convenience. My primary doctor, Honore Lansen, is someone who I have been seeing for two years and she has been a tremendous help to me for all sorts of medical concerns. I find her to be very caring, knowledgeable, and attentive. I am one of those patients who sometimes has a million questions, and she makes herself available via email to address my concerns. I feel like I have someone who can look at a problem from all different angles and give me great options from which to choose. She has also put me in touch with other referring doctors to address other issues and she does a great job of pulling everything together and following up. I really feel like I have a partner in my healthcare plan. I never feel rushed when we speak. She always takes the time to explain things to me. It's just a very comforting experience all around. I know I am in good hands.

It's like the Seinfeld episode when Jerry asks a few women who their personal doctor is and gets slapped in the face. That's kinda how I feel about writing this in public domain but then again, a quality doctor is so hard to find. How else will you know if they're good unless the patient reviews?? I discovered Dr. Gershowitz by way of my Uncle. I know strange but my Uncle worked for Montefiore Medical Center for almost 25 years so when it came to doctors he always had the best resources. I've been going to Dr. Gershowitz for a few years now and after some pretty crappy OBGYN experiences, she is the best. Nice bedside manner and gets down to business. Prepares and explains everything she is going to do. Is thorough in her questioning and seems genuinely concerned about her patients well being. She will always give her honest opinion as a doctor, not as someone promoting a medication. Things to know: -The office line is usually busy. Keep trying. - Expect for it to be hard to get an appointment. When you call be prepared that your appointment may be scheduled weeks or even months in advance. -They don't take debit or credit card payments under $20 so if your co-pay is less, bring cash. -Dr. Gershowitz is perpetually late and sometimes disappears after your appointment even if she wants to talk to you. Be patient, schedule at least 60-90 minutes in your own calendar for your visit. Another secret tip, Dr. Gershowitz is quite liberal with BC samples. A nice plus.

And Dr. Gershowitz used to be very warm and seemed to care about your problems, but I went in a few months ago concerned about a potential STD and she brushed off my concerns saying my symptoms were "most likely" a result of my birth control. I insisted on being tested anyway, and luckily although they did come back negative for STDs, I did have a bacterial infection that would have gotten worse if I didn't treat it. It just frustrates me that my doctor, who has supposedly been in this field for a long time, would downplay legitimate concerns and symptoms. I felt like she was in such a rush to see other patients that my concerns were being treated like I just wanted attention. Then when I called for a follow-up appointment, I was told the next available was over 2 months away. Maybe this is just a NYC thing, but it's totally ridiculous to me that someone should have to wait TWO MONTHS to take care of their health. It's great she's so popular, but maybe she should limit taking new patients so she can actually take care of the ones she already has. I'm finding another gyno that actually has time for me.
