We decided to book it for a concert since being right across the street from the venue would be incredibly convenient. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the stay. Even though the hotel is on a busy street, we had a corner room and didn't have any issues with street noise. The room had two huge windows, and while it definitely has that old-school McMenamins charm, the bathroom was in excellent condition and surprisingly spacious. The soaking pool in the basement was also a fun experience. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but it ended up being one of my favorite parts of the stay. Overall, I think the Crystal Hotel is a fun, charming option in a great central location. Are there newer, more chic hotels for around the same price? Absolutely. But if you like the unique McMenamins vibe, appreciate historic charm, and want to be in the middle of everything, the Crystal Hotel is a great choice.

Having the two balconies just made the view spectacular! It's so cool to watch Portland, at that location. And that's part of the point, the location. The hotel is fun and very cool. With that in mind I've been going religiously to Rebecca every week for almost a year and a half now. I started with aerial silks but now I'm on lyra. Rebecca is a great instructor, her teaching style is a great mix of strength, performance art, and creativity. I definitely feel like I get the personalized curriculum that my body and mind needs. I don't feel afraid to ask her to drill me on the basics (since I wasn't an athlete or dancer before) but she also pushes me outside of my comfort zone with new amazing moves that makes you feel super empowered. No matter what day, I always get inspired to give 110%. And I will 100% of the time recommend other people to go to her as well.

This place is a nostalgic favorite as it's where my husband and I had our first date. Our experience this weekend was much better than our last pre-pandemic visit and definitely deserves an update. We arrived a little after 7:00 and had no trouble getting a table. An hour later, the place was getting busy. I think it depends on what band is playing, a lot of people seemed to know each other. Very attractive servers and bartender, our female server was very sweet and generally efficient. Things were slightly odd though. We ordered drinks, we usually each have one double and were told, "oh, we don't do doubles." This was both funny and strange as restaurants all over town do a double for us and we eat out almost every Saturday night. But whatever. I ordered a vodka cranberry and was told they were out of cranberry juice. Also odd, as it's a bar staple and they weren't all that busy. But I rolled with the flow and had grapefruit instead. The drinks were well mixed. We started with the deviled eggs, which were wonderfully delicious. Probably the best we've had in town. For dinner, I had the chicken strips. They were very tasty, but there were only three and they were pretty small. They look larger in my pic than they actually were. This seemed a bit cheap on their part. The fries were very plentiful, so I was full, but still.... My husband had the Notorious P.I.G., which is a pulled pork sandwich. His portion was great and he shared a couple of bites, it was really, really good. Wish I'd gotten that instead. Overall, a good experience but they need to work a bit on the drinks situation and better portions of some items. We're looking forward to going again, I know they are changing their location soon, but not sure how soon. Definitely worth a visit.

They also do a great job with the presentation of the drinks Vibe: the atmosphere and decor make this place special. I haven't found a place in Portland like this yet! The opening band was a Depeche Mode cover band called Hiding from Love (lots of "love" in the air tonight). My daughter has been on restriction, but we took a break from it as tribute bands are my guilty pleasure. I used it as an excuse to dive deeper into both bands beforehand. I know most of the hits although not always by name. My daughter and Sarah went up front to dance at the show and we had fun. Something interesting i found out was that Personal Jesus by Depeche is not even in their top 2 songs on Spotify currently. The other two songs are hits that i've heard, and i understand Depeche Mode is not a one hit wonder, but i was shocked to find out their song Enjoy the Silence has twice as many plays as Personal Jesus. Personal Jesus in my experience has always been the stand out hit, even at the show the crowd loved that one the most. Also Personal Jesus was released first as b-side in 1989, and was later released on a studio album the following year. The other big hits on the studio album (Enjoy the Silence, Policy of Truth, and World in my Eyes) although very 80's sounding, were released in 1990, which i had forgotten. Weird, i think of them as 80's songs. Not only that, but Depeche Mode, I learned very recently, has multiple other great songs that sound like they are from the 80's but were released years or decades after the 80's ended. Last note: They have an album (at least on streaming and it's listed as a "single" even though the collection is 3 hours long) of remixes called Violator: The 12 Inch Singles, and although i generally dislike remixes there are quite a few good ones on there. Many of them could fit well in a movie score.

The actual seats themselves are old and uncomfortable. Just wanted to note that if you have problems like me. We ordered some drinks from downstairs and prices were typical theater prices. They do have a full bar and cider and beer draft. Also have bathrooms upstairs. Overall, I'll probably be back to see another show

Uncalled for aggression and entitlement. Thanks for reminding me what it's like in 'Murica right now. Sad to see such behavior in Portland that reinforces stereotypes of outlaw country fans. The good: great space, pretty easy parking, cool staff inside the venue. Best of all was how the…read morestaff helped me with ADA accommodations for the show. The bad and ugly: Security staff at the screening station were unnecessarily unpleasant. I don't get the feeling that these are people who should be working with the public. But the worst thing was how the night ended. The staff were clearly wanting to sweep us out of there as soon as possible. In their rush to kick us out, no one told us that we would've had to go down the interior stairs to go to the merch table. We went out the front door and then found out that we would have to go back around the side to get to the merch. But no one would let us back there. We talked to several staff members, some of them were nice, and some of them were not, but no one would let us go purchase merchandise from the band. That's just totally unfair to the band, as sales are usually their best bet at making a buck. If there had been an announcement or signage that told me which way to go, fine, but there wasn't, and it was super uncool that no one would help my disabled butt to the merch. I wrote to them about this, and no one ever responded. Given my unpleasant experiences with multiple staff members and their lack of care to respond to my message, I would seek out other venues to book or attend shows in Portland. I want to make a small suggestion. At the end of the show, I waited around a minute for the band to come out and say hi, as they usually do after their show. It was clear that the staff was vibing us to get out as fast as possible, so we went out the front door which is where I had come in to minimize the number of stairs I'd be using. BUT once outside the venue I was told that the band and the merch were inside, downstairs, and I could not re-enter the venue under any circumstance. I would not have taken the stairs down to the lower level unless I was specifically told to go that way, because of my physical disability. I understand why you don't want people hanging around, but it penalizes the band not to be able to sell merch to any customers who weren't informed that they must go downstairs after the show. Could you please consider making a bigger effort to have your staff let people know they should go downstairs unless they don't want to peruse the merch table? Or maybe reconsider letting people in to the downstairs area only if they mistakenly leave without passing through that way?
