I debated overnight whether or not to write this review. She is very friendly and sweet but in the end I do not feel like I received what I wanted to pay for - I had spent a very long day playing with my pup and I'm almost eight months pregnant; I also work FULL time and my husband is out of town so I've been running the show at home for the last two weeks by myself. I get horrible knots in my neck and shoulders, to the point that I can't turn my neck. I was hurting (and I'm generally not one to complain about pain and soreness) and needed relief so I decided to pamper myself for a change. When I called I explained I'm pregnant and she told me that I would be wanting more of a Swedish massage. I'm not well-versed on which type of massage is what but this didn't sound right to me so I told I was looking for more of a deep tissue. I show up and fill out the paperwork; I indicated I have muscle soreness and I have tingling in my limbs. The tingling/numbness is from the muscles in my shoulders getting so tight but I'm guessing she assumed it's because I'm pregnant. I know this is the case because I've had to get it worked out before. But, that brings me to my next point: she didn't ask me about any of it. The paperwork was filled out for.. What? Fun? She took me to her massage room and let me get undressed and position myself on the table. The paperwork was left unaddressed. I honestly thought the first half was a warm up.. There was a lot of rubbing and no pressure. I felt like she barely touched me and she would tiptoe around the stress points/knots in my shoulders (literally just using her finger tips). I understand there's a blood clot risk in pregnant womens' legs/feet so it's unadvised to go hard, but she hardly touched my feet. I also understand the angle is a bit difficult because I have to lay on my side, but.. Not THAT difficult. I get more pressure from my foam roller. When I realized this was all I was going to get I just lay there fuming. When I stood up and realized none of the aches and pains had been remotely addressed (if anything my hips hurt more from laying on the table), I had to hold back my tears. I had been so excited to go, only to feel like I had wasted $50.. And let's be honest: preparing for a baby is expensive. $50 spare dollars to throw around like fun coupons does not come easily. I budgeted my butt off this month and that $50 was supposed to go in to savings. I cried the whole way home.
She commented below and I feel that it needs to be addressed. I made it clear I did not want a rub down. If I wanted someone to put two hands on my back with some coconut oil, I have a husband that is more than willing to do it for free. I told her this over the phone before making the appointment in conjunction with telling her I wanted more of a deep tissue massage. Knowing at that time that I was looking for more than what she had to offer, and if she was not comfortable with what I was asking for, she had a professional obligation to the customer to explain prior to costing me $50 (which I see she is refunding and thank goodness because I know La Vida massage will sort me out for the same cost). As far as my paperwork goes: she asked me how far along I was and if there were any pregnancy complications. There is much more to me than a baby inside my womb. For example, I had hip surgery in January and jaw surgery awhile back. That was also on the paperwork. Neither that or the tingling in my finger tips were addressed. She did inquire about the pressure at the very beginning when I honestly thought she was warming up. I did not fall asleep. I can recount the whole thing from start to finish. It's fine that she's upset by my rating; it's within her right and I could have been more vocal. It is not, however, okay to lie. In my opinion, it also speaks to her professionalism (or lack thereof) that she would blame the customer and claim there were/are "other issues" on a public forum. The rating stands. read more
