I've been a member here for roughly 10 years. The main reason for my 3 star review is that the place use to be a lot better and it's just not as good anymore.
Even though other gyms in town cost less and have more equipment, NTC is the only place in town with a lap swimming pool. The pool has always been my primary reason for being a member. The down side is that they have so many kids taking swim lessons, high school swim teams, adult day care people (who spit and pee in the pool) ... that the pool always seems to be full. There are MANY times I've gone up to the gym to swim and ALL lanes were full and there was no room for me to swim.
The staff is generally very nice and some of them are extremely nice but, most of the younger staff members (like Dave) don't say "hello" to anyone and really just stand around and watch the TVs all day.
The music they play in the workout area is HORRIBLE. One of the staff (Ryan) will play good music but Dave usually picks music that only a 12 year old girl would listen to. The music on the gym floor is usually slow boring stuff you'd hear in a doctors office. They have the ability to play better music that you'd typically hear at a gym but, they don't for some reason. I personally would like to hear some Rock. Dave also puts the TVs on crap channels and if you ask him to change the TV station, he makes up reasons why he can't do it.
Anyways, I originally joined this gym 10 years ago because of the pool and the Olympic size track they have. Now, the track is off-limits to everyone for some reason. The pool use to have a really nice diving board but, that's gone now too. Being that you can't use the track and the pool is full most of the time, there's really no benefit to joining this gym that can't be found at other gyms in town.
The only real positive at this gym, is the group fitness classes. They are taught by completely different people than the (mostly worthless) floor staff. Joy / Stacie / Khaki are all great ! read more
