Dr Sowers was the third podiatrist I went to for help for a traumatic foot injury. She was the first doctor to actually point out what was a considerable bone deformity and show me what was normal. The prior doctors hadn't bothered to inform me i had broken my metatarsal, despite my pain symptoms and confusion over a strange new foot shape. Her prediction of 'a lifetime of pain and swelling' is turning out to be true, 2.5 years later, as she offered no solution to set the metatarsal correctly. read more

After being referred to Dr. Sowers I was relieved when she was able to take care of the infected ingrown nail. She told me to just air it for a day and then go back to wearing covered shoes. That I don't even need to wear a bandaid! A month later I have another infection despite her taking a one minute look at the follow up and saying oh it will look like the others soon! I am now on my fourth set of pills and am very frustrated. Although her location in ward is convenient, it is annoying to go all the way to an appointment just for less than 10 minutes of her time. Her staff is unorganized and a few of them are rude. After having my ingrown nail removed, my toe (bandaged and not going to fit in my slipper) needed some help so I could leave. Instead of helping me tape the slipper to me (like Dr said she would do), the receptionist just said okay you're done bye. RIP off! My mom came here as she sprained her ankle, and it was just 1 visit and came out to hundreds (she took these tests which wasn't needed)! Tried to get a letter for insurance reimbursement from the doctor and I couldn't get her cooperation. Make sure to do your homework! I was seeing her for a year or so for plantar fasciitis and heel spurs. She gave me about 4 steroid shots in my foot, they used to last about 6 months but all of a sudden they stopped working. Her staff isnt the friendliest aside from one of the last Male assistants I met once. I work in the medical field and will say, her bed side manner lacks a lot along with her empathy. I'm on my feet all day 8+ hours with 8/10 foot pain. I got a sleep boot from her that I had to pay an arm and a leg for. Her only solution for me was the shots and the night splint. Once I started going back every couple weeks because the shots were no longer working she'd just say ok, so what? You want another shot? After that I never went back. I wouldn't recommend her I only went there because she was convenient for me. read more

Dr. Sowers is a warm and knowledgeable doctor who also happens to be efficient. I thought it was neat how the room I was put in was equipped with an x-ray machine that captures images instantly, so determining a diagnosis took no time at all! Thankfully, it was a minor, common condition, so Dr. Sowers offered simple advice and answered all my questions on caring for my foot until it fully recovers. Her front staff was also friendly and patient. I felt bad for arriving five minutes later than I was supposed to, and I also felt bad that they had to put up with a couple of insufferable patients ahead of me, but the front desk staff were understanding and even-keeled throughout. Now - the last thing you ever want when on vacation is to have the need for a doctor. You can get a list of options from your insurance carrier, maybe even see the doctor's education background and fish for reviews, but you really don't have anyone's opinion to ask (and people rarely rate docs on Yelp). Last, and worst, is the worry that the doctor may not feel the need to invest lots of time and energy in you, because you may just be a one-and-done for them. Well, Dr. Sowers helped dispose of all of those concerns. She's very thorough, with a completely no-nonsense approach. Minor surgery was accomplished with no muss, no fuss, and precious little tolerance for any wiggling or whinging. I didn't mind at all, as I at this point had faith I was in good hands. Highly recommend the doctor as well as her clinic's staff. Staff were very understanding and accommodating of an urgent situation, and friendly throughout the intake and outprocessing. Was squeezed in today because of a sprained ankle... Needed to find out if there was a break. My experience with the doctor was professional and extremely thorough. We did a number of xRays that showed immediate results which greatly helped in my understanding...amazing the technology thats available today. Worst experience with a doctor in my life. I first went to Dr. Sowers because I had a bone deformity on the top of my right foot caused by arthritis. It was pretty painful if I was standing or walking for any length of time(1-3 hours). In 2014 Dr. Sowers did surgery on my right foot to shave the bone down to help with the pain and so my foot could fit into shoes better. The surgery it's self was very painful but that was only the beginning. She told me I should stand on it as soon as possible so I followed "doctor's" instructions. The pain only grew worse and now my foot would swell if I was on it for more than 15-20 minutes. I went back to Dr. Sowers 5 or 6 more times to get better relief with no success. She gave me several cortisone shots which helped very little. She claimed that this was normal. I decided to go look for another doctor in 2015 and found a wonderful doctor in Strabb. When he first saw me he wanted my records from Dr. Sowers. She never sent them. Anyway,this past August 2016 after many X-rays,MRIs,and CAT scans my doctor now had to do reconstructive surgery to correct what was done the first time. Although my new doctor did a great job trying to fix what was done my foot will never be the same. If I could give her negative stars I would. In my opinion Dr. Sowers shouldn't be allowed to practice medicine of any kind. Not even on animals. read more

Back in 2008, I saw her and resolved never to return. Told her I was trying to run a marathon but had a bone bruise and she told me I needed $400 or $300 custom orthotics (I forget the exact price but it was PRICEY)!! After wearing them, I got blisters on the tops and bottoms of my feet. She tried to blame my shoes, but in reality the orthotics were too high to fit Into my Asics running shoes after removing the insert that comes with the shoe... She said my shoes were not tall enough. So how do you find a shoe that is taller? Longer, sure... But taller? I don't know. It was a waste. She'd also said I could use them for marathon after receiving them a few days before the race since that's how long they took to arrive. I had to quit during the marathon because my feet were SO sore. Wasted my money. Would not recommend. Felt like she either wasn't paying attention when I repeatedly mentioned the marathon was coming in a few months, or she didn't care and let me spend all that money anyway. I'd like to hope it wasn't the later. ***I wrote this review a long time ago, but felt bad about it. But, it's what happened to me, so I figured I'd post it. Friendly as a person but I'm afraid a terrible doctor in my case. And freaking expensive ($270 for a single visit and a small xray!). I was transferred to see her for a growing bunion. It's not huge yet but can be painful so it's better to treat it from the beginning and prevent more damage instead of waiting until surgery, right? You would think that a foot expert would look at you STANDING or WALKING. Nope. I was sitting on that bed/bench the entire time, she never asked me to get up. We just took an xray (that I was requested to pay $25 later for when I asked for a copy) and the diagnosis was there was nothing that I could do. She advised me to wear slightly elevated heels in shoes instead of flat ones. I left kinda perplexed. Really, nothing I can do? I am 40! Went to see a professional in Europe who looked at me standing for just 1 second and said - your posture is wrong. Check your knees out! And sure enough, my knees were slightly bend inwards, putting a lot of pressure on that bone, hence a bunion. She showed me exercises to strengthen a correct posture and told me to of course NOT wear higher heels - she said if that's how we are supposed to walk then we would be born like it! Plus the pressure on the bunion would only increase. I guess a valid point. Instead she advised insoles especially molded to correct my foot posture. The doctor also advised me to walk a lot bare foot, free the feet from shoes, and remember to walk softly. A lot has improved ever since I saw that professional. Based on Dr. Sowers advice my bunion would be how big now????? Never believe a doctor there is nothing you can do! read more

During my first visit to see a podiatrist, I was very nervous to see what my diagnostic was. Prior to my visit, I had sustained a painful sports injury on my feet that made me to limp to avoid the painful area. My visit with Dr Sowers was very pleasant and she knowledgeably answered all my questions that I bombarded her with in great detail. Her thorough diagnostics of my feet calmed my nerves. :) It was also very convenient that the x-ray machine was inside the patient exam room, so I did't have to walk anywhere. Luckily, the X-rays confirmed that it wasn't serious, nothing broken or torn - just some bone bruising. Dr Sowers also gave me her insightful observation of my feet/legs anatomy and suggested ways to protect and care for the feet I was born with! Thanks! Although the doctor seemed competent I got the impression she is running a product scam. I went in for a diabetic foot exam and before I even saw the doctor one of the staff came to to fit me for diabetic shoes. I told her I had no interest in buying shoes and she said they are completely covered by my insurance and free to me. I still declined. The doctor finally came in and after the exam she recommended the shoes and said they were "free". I ordered the shoes at her recommendation. Several weeks after picking up the shoes I got a bill for $144.00 from her office. I called the office but the staff could not have cared less. The front office staff is grumpy and indifferent. I believe Dr Sowers is a good doctor with a savvy business model that takes advantage of insurance companies and unaware patients. If she recommends any product please check with you insurance to see if it's covered or you may receive a surprise bill. read more

Bottomline upfront: Dr. SOWERS is unethical and bilking health care plans (and her patients) for as much money as she can. And Queen's MDX does not have anyone to investigate claims of unethcial medical practices. I WOULD NEVER GO TO THIS "DOCTOR" AGAIN - NOR WOULD I RECOMMEND HER TO ANYONE EALSE. This is the most UNETHICAL "professional" I have seen in my entire life! Last year, I was diagosed with plantar fasciitis on both feet and a heel spur on my left foot; this appears to be an accurate diagosis. Her treatment began involving "painkiller" injections to the soles of my feet and later to both heels when the pain seemed worse there. The first time she did the injections, she informed me that she had to do each foot separately - one foot on one day and the other foot the following day. Initially,I figured that this requirement to have separate appointments for the injections had to be for some medical rationale. Having to come in for two appointments on different days for what I thought could be done in one appointment was somewhat of a "hassle" and also made me pay two co-payments for each visit (2X$15). On my second or third visit for foot injections, I asked her why I had to come in twice for an injection in each foot instead of just getting both the same day; she replied that they were "having problems getting reimbursed for two injections from the medical insurance providers if both were given on the same day." THIS ANSWER FLOORED ME! I was expecting for her to reply that two injections on the same day were ill-advised because of the total amount of "painkillers" being injected or some other MEDICAL reason. On my third or fourth injection, I again asked her the same question, and she replied in almost IDENTICALLY the same way, her office was "having problems getting reimbursed for two injections on the same day." I have since contacted my medical insurance company (Queen's MDX) several times, and MDX kept saying that MDX would pay for each injection (one to each foot) on the same day. I began to suspect that Dr. SOWERS was bilking MDX (and me) for two office visits for treatment that could be performed in one office visit. I called Dr. SOWERS' office this past week and was told the only way I could get both injections on the same day is if I paid for one of the injections "out-of-pocket." I contacted MDX again, and they again assured me they would pay for both injections if given on the same day and indicated they would contact Dr. SOWERS' office to try to ascertain the problem. I called Dr. SOWER's office today and was told that, "Dr. SOWERS will only give you an injection in each foot on different days - there is no way to get both injections on the same day." I told them that I would seek a different podiatrist. I learned two things from this. Dr. SOWERS is unethical and bilking health care plans (and her patients) for as much money as she can. Asked Dr Sowers to contact me multiple times - office says she is too busy to call. Got disconnected several times when I call - intentional? If we want to talk, we need to come to the office. Would not recommend. Was billed for splint after being told it was covered by insurance. I opted to take the splint after Dr. Sowers said that it was covered by my insurance. The said splint is used to stretch out the plantar fascia and prevent further injury, but does not help the plantar fibroma under my foot, so not essential for my "problem". So, again, I would not have taken it if I was given the right information. I feel it's unfair; they are also not accepting return of the splint. read more

I have been to two other doctors before deciding to stay with Dr Sower. The other doctors yelled at me for not following their orders and I was too intimidated to explain. But, what I like about Dr Sower is that she explains things to me and not treat me like an idiot. I went to her for several reasons and thank God she had a special X-ray machine in the office to see a sewing needle in my foot and pulled it out. Put me on medication and 2 years later I'm off medication and able to run again. I am recommending her to a friend.
