Felt unwelcome from the moment I walked in. So turned off by my reception I couldn't really concentrate on the inventory. I do think the prices were a bit inflated for second hand. I was a bit surprised at a price of something but the manager(?) Told me it retailed for $800. But I bought exact same thing new for $550 from the designer. So she may have a distorted view of the value or maybe she thought we weren't 'high end' enough to recognize the value of her used items. read more

The staff and owners are incredibly rude. I have gone in the store repeatedly over many years and they simply do not acknowledge me and seem astonished when I try to say hi. Perhaps the owners have some kind of mental block about recognizing their customers, or some kind of disability that leads them to be unable to recognize someone even when she has been a customer for 15+ years? I've never actually been treated that way even in better consignment shops with much better prices - their merchandise is consistently overpriced. Go to DC and shop in Clothes Encounters for real designers and real bargains, and friendly, helpful, courteous owners who treat their customers and consigners like humans. I really hesitated to write this review, but my experience at Natalie Dressed has been consistent over a number of visits, so I decided to go ahead and post. I've never consigned my clothes with them, so I can't speak to that. But I've been in a number of times over the past few years as a customer, and I'd say many of the other reviews are accurate, regarding merchandise and customer service. It's a nice store with a great selection of higher-end clothes, shoes and accessories for women. I find the starting prices to be a little high, but again most of these items are very expensive to begin with. They have good and frequent markdowns and I've found some fantastic gems at bargain prices, and that's why I continue to shop there. Unfortunately, I do find the customer service to be lacking, as other reviews have mentioned. I've never once been greeted or acknowledged when I walked into the store, and I don't find the staff to be particularly friendly or helpful. I would consider myself to be in their core demographic of customers, and yet I don't feel very comfortable or welcome when I go in. To be honest, if it were any other boutique I probably wouldn't continue to shop there, but to be fair and give credit to them, it's a nice store with great merchandise and reasonable prices, enough so to keep me coming back. But if you're looking for a warm and welcoming place to shop, this may not be the store for you. read more

Manager turns away basically all of you stuff. They ask you to bring your clothes on racks and if they aren't in ~pristine~ condition, will be turned away. I've bought stuff from here before & didn't think it was higher quality than anything I've tried to drop off (e.g., shoes with pen marks). First, I'll say they have a good variety of sizes, styles, and items. But the rude staff and ridiculously overpriced clothing make it a no-go for me. I'd heard about the rude shop staff and it is 100% accurate. Having lived in other cities with phenomenal consignment clothing stores, this is just such a disappointment. I have been here many times and have recommended it to others! They are selective but I feel that they have nicer things as a result. Call before trying to bring stuff to consign because often they are out of space (they are very popular!) and if you bring your clothes anyway, they are likely to reject most or all of it. Wait until they need stock and you will do a lot better. The workers are kind of standoff-ish but do not let that ruin your chance to find great modern, trendy designer stuff at massive discounts. This is not for Goodwill or thrift store shoppers; they carry only mid- to high-end brands and price accordingly (Banana Republic blouse, originally $70 would be full price of $20, but goes down weekly). I have gotten UNBELIEVABLE finds, but you have to just be patient! For example, I got purple Hunter Wellingtons for $40, a Banana Republic tan trench coat (original price $270 and they still make the same one) for $45, an Ann Taylor black cocktail dress I LOVED in the store at full price of $250 and grabbed it there in the same size for $30. My best find? Plain black Christian Louboutin pumps for $60, never worn before. The retail price is $650 on these. Good luck! read more

I absolutely adore this consignment store! They changed locations a few years ago and are now in the Millmont shops and have done an absolutely fabulous job utilizing their space. They have a TON of inventory! Every time I go the store the racks are full of clothes no matter the season. It seems like they are always getting more and more items so every time I go there are different things...pretty sure I have never left that store empty handed! The store is clean, bright, and open, the racks can be a little tight sometimes making it hard to shop but that just means there is a lot to look through and choose from! So the great thing about this consignment store is their tagging method. It is color coded so every item has a color tagged and that directly correlates with the discount. Some items are full priced but you can also find things that are 30%, 50%, and 75% off! Which makes shopping there that much more fun and exciting. Now let me talk about the staff.. the owners, Cara and Cheryl, are absolutely wonderful! They are a great team and you can tell they love what they do. They take pride in making the store look nice and keeping it stocked! Everyone who works there is so nice and helpful, if it's your first time going they can help you figure out the discounts, get you an account set up so you can start bring your own items, or simply finding a piece of jewelry to match the outfit you just bought! I found this consignment by accident and what a happy accident it was! Many of the clothes are like new--some with tags still on! Good prices, selection, styles, and brand names! Let me start by saying that this store has a very good selection of trendy clothing . Their prices are very high for a consignment store. GAP long sleeve tees for $22 - seriously! Anyway, my complaint about this business is how unfriendly the salespeople/owner are. They always seem to be chatting with someone when I walk in yet they can't ever take the time to say hello to me. I've been in there 8-10 times and they never greet me. It's funny because a friend of mine asked if I'd ever been there then she proceeded to tell me how unfriendly they were to her. Even though this store has a great selection of clothes, I will not give more than 1 star on principle. The people working the counter ( often times one or both of the owners) don't have a very good understanding of how courtesy works in the retail industry. I have never once been greeted upon entering this store and find the general attitude to be very snotty. I get it; your store is very popular and you can afford to be rude to me because there's plenty of other customers. Guess what, though: I'm just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the general consensus around town. I have spoken to dozens of other under-valued customers who've shopped here over the years who also left with a bad taste in their mouth. I've worked in the retail industry before. I have bought a few things there and had a consignment account. Recently when I called I asked for the balance on my account and if I needed to pick up any of my consigned items. I was told the balance and my account and that my stuff had either sold or they had donated it. I was told I would be given a call if they were going to donate the remainder of my stuff. I wasn't. The lady on the phone snottily told me its in the contract, which I was never given a copy of and that they have 3600 consignees so it was my responsibility to call. This is an excellent consignment shop if you are looking for deals (NOT thrift store prices, but discounted) on name brand clothes. Everything is organized and the clothes are in great shape. Very current styles and everything I've tried on looks new. The dressing rooms are nice and roomy with quaint stools that I'd love to have in my home. Great attention to detail. And, most importantly, I went in looking for something to wear to a wedding and the clerk was extremely helpful. Not pushy, but helping me find options. read more

I recently had a negative experience trying to cosign some items at Natalie Dressed. If you're looking to cosign some mid-range to upscale items in Charlottesville, I would suggest a visit to Darling on the downtown mall instead. The women at Darling are friendlier, plus the store gives you a larger percentage of the profit from what you sell. Below is a (very long) description of my negative experience at Natalie Dressed. I called the store ahead of time and asked if they were taking clothes that day, and was told to bring in my things. I explained that I had a large number of items (a large duffel bag full and a box of shoes) and asked if I could drop them off and come back four hours later to pick them up-- the sales associate agreed. When I returned a half hour before closing, the main sales associate was literally on her way out that door and didn't seem interested in speaking to me. She told me that "there was nothing they could really take"... I said "Oh, nothing?" to which she then replied that maybe they could cosign some of my shoes. She then bent down and started to rummage through my box of shoes, picking some out that were acceptable. At this point I was quite confused for 2 reasons-- firstly, I was confused because they should have looked through my shoes during the four hours that I left my things there to be consigned, not as an afterthought when she was already halfway out the door. Secondly, I was confused as to why there was not a single suitable clothing item they were interested in as I brought a number of in-season spring sweaters, tops, dresses, blazer, etc- many of which are like new and are name brands like J crew, Banana republic, and Ann Taylor Loft. Of course, I know that what gets cosigned depends not only on the brand and condition of the items but also on the need of the store at that time, depending on stock, or season, etc. I understand this of course, so I asked the sales associate why they were not able to take any items. I was interested in knowing the reason so that I could get an idea of what they are really looking for and perhaps bring in some items that would be more suitable. However, she did not give me a clear answer. She began to give me a list of reasons that revealed she had no memory or knowledge of what I even brought in. First, she told me that they cannot accept wrinkled items. SInce the items had been folded in the duffell and I thought, "ok, maybe they moved around and got too messy" so I said to her..."Oh I'm sorry about that, would you like me to come back with some items and make sure they are more presentable? I could bring my tops on hangers." The sales associate said "It's up to you." This was unclear, so I asked her again to clarify whether it was the condition of the items that was the issue. In response, she then changed her reasoning and said that my items were rejected because they only take certain labels. I told her that I certainly understood this but that many of of items were brands like those I listed above (brands which this store stocks heavily). In response to this, she then changed her tune yet again and said yes, they do take those brands.. but that they cannot accept things with stains, especially with stains under the arms. Now at THIS point, I suddenly realized that she completely did NOT know what was in my bag and was making things up! I am absolutely certain that none of the clothes are stained, ESPECIALLY not under the arm! Absolutely not. I was a bit insulted by this remark. I also realized that she did not actually know what I brought in or why nothing was accepted, and could not help me. So I kindly thanked them, wished them a good afternoon, and left. When I get home, I looked through my things and saw they had hardly been touched! Most were still folded and in the same position inside my duffel bag where I had placed them that morning. The sales associates literally did not even look at most of my items! Now, if there is a valid reason for not accepting certain things, I certainly understand that. But why give me a bunch of reasons that don't make sense? Why make no effort to even LOOK through my items? And, if for some reason the store was busy and my items did not get a change to be looked at..why not just tell me this up front? I was really disappointed to find that they sales associates did not take my business seriously, had no clear explanation for why they accepted none of my items, and in fact did not even look at them. I spent a lot of effort cleaning out my closet, packing things up, bringing the items in, then coming back to pick them up. I work full time and struggled to squeeze this into my schedule before leaving the country. In sum, I feel that Natalie Dressed wasted my time. I did keep the whole interaction quite light and friendly but, privately, I felt disrespected. It felt quite rude overall. I can not comment on the merchandise as I have not shopped there. My experience was on the consignment side. A couple of issues created a very frustrating experience for me. First off I called the day before I brought in any clothes to find out what their consignment policies were and if I could bring some things in the next day. I was told that they were currently taking fall clothing and I should call back the next morning to see if they were taking clothing; there was no mention of a one time 15$ registration fee, which I learned about later. So the next day I called and they said they were swamped but I could bring in my small lot of items. I brought 2 pairs of boots a dress and one pair of jeans. They did not want to take one pair of boots because they were more "wintery" and the other all leather Aldo boots because they had a small nick in the heel (I thought it was a second hand store). The Gap jeans that I wore once or twice were refused because they were wide leg. So after all the calling and driving to the store they only wanted one dress and a 15$ registration fee. Obviously I did not chose to consign my one dress and pay then 15$, in the end it was a waste of my time and gas driving there. I should have been told about the registration fee when I called, they also should make potential consigners aware of that they are very picky in selection - more picky than any other consignment store I have ever been to. Also - if you are a consignment shop that advertises that you take consigned goods mon-fri 10:00 to 4:30 then a customer should not have to call before bringing in items. If you are so overwhelmed with stock you need to request that customers make appointments for consigning. Unfortunately- this secondhand store and it's employees are a bit snobby, which is not what you expect when shopping second hand. read more

I had high hopes after reading another reviewer's post, but was disappointed. Starting with the positive, they definitely have a larger store and larger selection than most other consignment stores in the area. I also think the store name is clever. The biggest negative is that the clothing is expensive. For some of the designer labels (I mean real designers, not just brand names) the prices are probably a good deal for someone who has the budget. However, most of the other items are way overpriced. Most of the shirts were tagged $22 (I saw a good amount of Banana Republic, Ann Taylor Loft, etc.). Some were brands from Kohl's where you wouldn't even pay $22 to buy the items originally. They have a complicated color tagging system. The upside of this is that several of the colors mean discounts (30, 50 and 70%). Unfortunately, most of the items were not on sale and the ones that were on sale had too high a starting price to even make 50% reasonable. One of the three people working was friendly. I was not greeted on entering even though two ladies were at the front counter. It wasn't a welcoming atmosphere like the other consignment shops I've been to. The clothes are organized by size but not by color within sizes like some other places. Bottom line--I bet they'd sell a lot more if the prices came down. read more
