These guys look like they're going out of business. My son went in with a gift certificate, and found that (other than trains), all other hobbies were poorly represented. The paint section, for instance, was all but non-existent, with some paint being dried up and their containers shrunk and shriveled from age and exposure to the solvents within them. The owner/salesman was horribly disrespectful to him. They had an oil-free air compressor there, but it looked like it had been sitting on the shelf since the late 80s (and still full price!) So, unless they plan on surviving on their train section, I'm not sure what their game plan is. But based on the way they treated my son, that's not really my concern. Would not recommend. read more

Purchased an item through eBay from this seller. Received a damaged item that was different from the one that was listed for sale on eBay. Photographs from the eBay listing did not match the item that was received. Attempted to contact seller directly, first through email that went unanswered , and then I spoke to an employee at the store who told the me owner would call me back, but never did. Had to progress my return request through eBay. Was informed by eBay that seller did not respond their email. Ebay and PayPal resolved the issue by refunding my money without any cooperation from the seller. Would not recommend anyone deal with this store through eBay, or in person. read more

Buyer beware at this store! I was a loyal customer here for years. Recently I purchased a brand new O Gauge locomotive online and received a used one instead. Wrote them looking for an apology and was rudely told 'that was the last one we had, but you can send it back for a refund'. Right, at my expense, after I was deceived and not informed upfront. No way! Dirty business trying to shift blame to the customer. No integrity at this store - just guys trying to score a profit at the customer's expense. Charged an upfront 10% deposit on a Lionel Dreyfuss and after seeing pics/ videos online (product was white instead of grey) I informed them that that was NOT what I ordered and didn't want the engine. Hadn't shipped yet.... They would not refund my deposit (which I understand as that is their policy - my lesson learned for sure). However, they wouldn't even do me the courtesy of allowing me to apply that money towards another item. Suggested it "wasn't transferable". I'm sure they'll be able to sell the engine so they just pocket my $140. Not the way to treat anyone you'd hope to be a repeat customer as I see it. Best of luck to them! read more

Maybe the owner is a cranky old codger, a lot of these hobby store guys are. Just remember to fully understand the stores return policy before you purchase. I have bought over $20000 worth of Lionel Trains Pre orders here. For the last pre order I paid in full and asked them to hold off shipping since I was away abroad, owner Chris said he can do that. I got held up abroad due to Covid Lockdowns and other problems sent him an email asking if he can hold off shipping till I come back and he said he was OK with it. I came back last week and sent them an email asking it to be shipped out. There was no reply. So called their shop and Chris was very rude and talked in a very weird way. First he hung up on me saying the owner is in jail. 2nd time I called he said it's been so long and they don't hold on to your items for that long and he has gone and resold it. He kept my full money as well as he resold my item. Since the charge is over 1 year old, I can't dispute it with the credit card. Very unethical business. Especially to a repeating customer. They charge 10% down payment on all Lionel pre orders trapping you into buying and they do this type of thing later. Worst ever! I learnt my lesson. Never again! went in to the store with 6 cars, still in original packaging, with the receipt, I was told that because of them being sold more than 6 months ago, they would not not do the return. Which I understand, I even asked for store credit, which was refused. then I asked if they would take them back at reduced price to sell as used, I was told and I quote' "I buy used cars for $5". I was then told most stores only process returns if they're two months. And we give six. I can tell you with 100% certainty I have made returns well after six months to other stores. I spend thousands of dollars in this store, and I know that because I keep every single receipt. Not only will I not be coming back but I will make sure to post this information on every single Facebook page involving trains. This is honestly a terrible business practice. read more

The worst place ever to shop at...doesn't honor any refunds especially since they sell defective items. Had receipt on a brand new item, never even out of box. Informed store via email and received a quick response apologizing and said they wound send me broken piece and missing item. A few days later a package arrived with everything 100% taken care of. Saw other reviews stating bad experience with whatever issue they had but mine was handled well, even went above and beyond and did so in a timely manner. Walked in Christmas Eve 2017 to buy a train set for my Xmas tree- dealt with an extremely knowledgeable employee who spent the time (prob 1.5 hrs) to go through each train set and explain the pros/cons of each since I'm a noob without getting annoyed (you can tell he loved what he does). Finally bought a great train set only to fumble with it at home for 2 hrs bc there were wrong parts given to me (most likely manufacturing packaging error). I could not use the train for its purpose and my Christmas tree looked stupid (just kidding, making it more dramatic then it is). I called the next day and spoke to the same employee who stated this has happened before and basically asked me to come in and swap out one of the tracks that supplies power to the train- I was pretty frustrated since I spent so much money and wasn't able to use it- the employee asked the owner- who then stated I would get a refund if I brought it back (without specifying when). I specifically called for the reason that I am a resident (doctor) and worked long hours and won't make it as the store closes by the time I get out of work. I come back in 1/6 ( 12 days after purchasing) after taking half day off to bring the train set back which was untouched since 12/24... they would not refund the money stating the 7 day policy (i was told 10 days of unopened by the employee bc I asked him prior to leaving Incase my wife had changed her mind when I brought this bad boy home)- PLOT TWIST: she did change her mind bc 1. This crap didn't work and 2. that I spent Christmas Eve with Chris and his friends in the store instead of helping her out with the Christmas party that night) - anyways I tell him this is what I was told, and he just waves his hands in the air and says he was never told that. I understand policies are in place so that customers don't take advantage of the store and return things after use (yes I am brown and brown people do these things so I give him that) -- however, this was 110% the stores fault, especially if it has happened before- it is their responsibility to check that the parts I'm getting are correct, not wait for me to come back when this place is 35 mins from where I live. I was unable to use this item, and it is going to be packed away for a year. I could have used that money to pay bills in the interim and then just pick up another set next year - this was just about principle at this point. I can assure the owner, Chris, that i won't be coming in again nor would be reccomeding it to others. The policy could have been bended here in my opinion especially when it's the stores fault. I'm just putting this here and leaving it here i recently bought a DR10 from Nassau hobby center and had a few issues with the car and I've bought from them before no issues well I take the car back for a second time and they guy at the counter took a look at it as the car want driving strait he looked at it and noted the car had issues and was willing to fix the car so I just said will you be able to fix it completely or can you just return or exchange it he said it was They couldn't exchange the car when I asked why not he started going on about how the cars been messed with so much it would be impossible to return them the owner of the shop piped in with "that's not how the world works" soon responded with "sure it is. If you go out and buy a new f-150 and it's not driving strait after multiple attempts of fixing it they're likely to give you a new one and send the faulty car back to the dealership under lemon law" he responds with "then go buy a fu***ng lemon tree" so over all rude costumer service and he cursed inforont of a teen (14) and was a complete douche read more

I called to ask a question about the item and to make sure they had it in stock. After getting off the phone. I got an error, turns out they changed the item and marked it as a sale item so that the discount no longer worked on the item. read more

I bought a rcc truck that had issues with it from the first time I bought it as a gift. I brought it back several times and after several attempts to fix it the store was unable to. I asked for a new one or a refund. they would not do either. Its a shame when you buy a 200 $ rcc and the store won't make good on it. was so disgusted went to another store and bought a different one. Please I highly suggest no one shop here. I was hanging out in a local park when i noticed a guy in the corner of the field flying a sale plane. Being completely bored with my multi-rotor i did a quick google search and found Nassau Hobby to be the closest to me. So I headed on over. The place has a huge selection of different hobbies so it took me a good 1/2 hour to make my way to RC Plane section. My girlfriend in the meantime was looking for some die cast model paint and was busy with the super friendly staff shopping. Once I picked up the very affordable Firebird Delta Ray I couldn't put it down. Some very cool shoppers were quick to get in a conversation about the plane, and what not and I instantly remembered what I love so much about this hobby. We all love to talk about it. Anyway, this shop is outstanding. Great staff, very knowledgeable - they are in the hobby, makes a big difference. Being from Manhattan I only get out to LI every so often, but when I do this will be my normal pit stop. Support the brick and mortar shops, and give this shop a try. read more

Came here today, my friend took me since he wanted to check out some things and he thought I might like to see the place and check it out with him. Boy, was he right on the money. Place is a heaven for model railroaders. To hell with everything else, the name of the game here is trains, trains, and more trains! The place is very fair competition with Train World in Brooklyn and it has a bigger store area than Train World since Train World's girth is in its back-room warehouses. Anyways, this place has so much variety right before your eyes and its conveniently located right by the LIRR station. Prices of many items are quite reasonable! read more

I felt my ten year old step-son was getting too involved with T.V. and video games, just turning on the electronics and shutting down his creativity and imagination. I decided to limit him to two hours of plug-in time a day and he would now have to find other outlets to pass the time. Introducing him to model making was one way I felt he could do this. Now I've been living out of state for over twenty years just recently returning and the one place I thought of coming to bring my step-son into the hobby world was here. Imagine my surprise that in today's world where nothing seems to last and businesses open and close, here Nassau Hobby Center was still open and thriving!! We went in today and the place was really busy. He decided on a model of a spaceship as his first and I walked around reliving a part of my youth one of the counter people took time out to help my step-daughter with the proper techniques how to finish a school project then helped us pick out the proper paints and supplies to make my step-son's first experience an enjoyable one. I thought I finally found a place that I can go to for my own personal needs and for me as a technology teacher. What a let down... I went in for a school rocket project for my students. Bought a bunch of rocket stuff and blatantly asked the clerk if I could return it after their 7 day policy because I won't know if it will work out by then. The clerk said no problem as long a nothing is opened. I even made it clear that it could be a month and he said just don't open it. So I bought it. A month later I go to return everything and the owner flat out says no it's past 7 days. I explained the situation and told him that school funds were used and that I could get written up. He laughed in my face and what school is that? This is one of the worst business owners I ever had to deal with. The lack of compassion and understanding is insane. He could have had an account for life with my school but now all he has is his bad attitude, terrible business practice and one less costumer. Never go here. Go to Willis hobbies. Great selection of trains and remote controlled toys. I took my nephew here to buy a car he wanted online and it was exactly as he wanted for his birthday. He also made a list for Chanukah which will make it easy for me to shop this year. The workers were great and helpful. Nice to know there is still a good hobby store local. read more
