It so happens that Erin was our driver/tour guide again as I got a text from her the day before. Unfortunately, the day the trip, Ray turn out to be our guide but Erin was still our driver. It worked out great! We got two for the price of one. Erin mainly drove but did chat here and there on the trip. Ray was very knowledgable on so many topics! He did a great job entertaining us on the ride. Ray was also very thoughtful and considerate of everyone in the van. He made sure we were always hydrated with water and the temperature in the van wasn't too cold. The worst part of the trip was the rain. When we stopped for lunch, Ray and Erin provided us with ponchos just in case. We end up not needing them. When we got to Jack Daniels, both of them were adamant that we should take the ponchos just in case. As it turns out, it down poured right at the start of the tour. I mean as soon as you walk out those doors to take pics and then board the bus, it came down hard!! Thankfully we were able to throw on our ponchos! Thanks again Erin and Ray for making my 2nd trip with Mint Julep fantastic! Hopefully I can tour with you again in the future!

Now,  wherever I'm…read moretraveling to I always check to see if they have a tour.  Luckily, I was able to join an available tour for the downtown area on a Sunday morning. The day was cold and dreary, but I still had an amazing time. The tour guide, Paul, was excellent. He kept the tour entertaining and educational. Paul seemed very passionate about the history and culture of Nashville. The tour lasted a little over an hour, and at the end, he gave us suggestions and directions based on our interests. I loved his honesty on places he thought we would or wouldn't enjoy based on our interests.  These tours are a great way to meet other travelers while enjoying the major attractions.  Of course, the tours aren't completely free because guides do accept gratuity, which they truly deserve.

Before Amy took us on our tour, another staff member explained how the headphones worked and what type of music plays....includes 70's, 80's and 90's, Country and Pop/Rock. At one point everyone was listening to YMCA and doing the dance that goes with the song. Tour is about 12 minutes long and we cruised through the atrium which took us through every section of the resort. There are lush gardens, waterfalls and it is very peaceful even with the music. I jammed out to Opalite by Taylor Swift and Amy and I chatted about her recent wedding and how happy we are for her! It was so nice that I plan to take another regular tour during my time at the resort. FIVE STARS!

We walked enough to get a bit of exercise but not to be tired, and we saw some great sites along the tour as it was 1 hour and 50 minutes for us and only one big hill. As a history teacher, I definitely picked up some interesting stories to bring back to class next year, and I learned some cool stats on Nashville and a bit of the behind the scenes on some of the country music stars of the area. It was really worth it. My husband does not love stuff like this, he'd rather grab a bite and do our own adventuring, but he was really pleased we did this as well. I was visiting my only high school friend in Franklin, and we were looking for something to do…read moredowntown that did not revolve around eating or drinking for once. She has lived there for years and had never done this tour, which made it feel like a bit of a discovery for both of us. We ended up at the Lotz House Museum, and it turned out to be one of those unexpectedly memorable experiences. On this particular day, we lucked out with Chuck as our guide. He is a former high school history professor, and you can tell immediately. He does not just recite facts, he brings everything to life with stories, details, and just the right amount of drama. The house itself is not large, but that almost works in its favor. Between the stories of the Lotz family and the vivid accounts of the Battle of Franklin happening right outside, you can practically see it all unfolding as you move from room to room. It is the kind of experience that sticks with you long after you leave, and at around seventeen dollars, it feels like an absolute steal. And do not skip the gift shop. Treat yourself to a peach Nehi soda on your way out. It is unexpectedly fantastic, and I am still thinking about how to get my hands on more.

It took about 45 minutes and then we got a 4 wine tasting (included) all 4 were great! We got to meander through all the plantation grounds and saw the stables, winery and pastures where horses were raised but most interesting were the slave cabins which honored the many slaves the family had. Plaques, photos with stories attached and the history of slavery in the South were presented with great care. More than half the slaves stayed on the plantation after the Emancipation as employees rather than slaves. Belle Mead Mansion and grounds are well worth seeing. No photos or videos allowed inside the mansion though to help preserve the many original furnishings and furniture. The store you walk through to go into to start your tour is amazingly decorated with plenty of things you might want to purchase when you leave.

It was hard for the youngest kiddo to remain behind the line while inside the house, but we managed to get through it without causing too much trouble! :) The older lady guide downstairs was very strict, and the young one upstairs was so chill. We enjoyed the lush garden outside in the backyard; that's also where the President was buried. The video introduction at the museum when you first enter was very interesting, and good preview of his life and legacy. Stopped by the gift shop to get some souvenirs and toys for the kids. Everyone walked away happy!
