Whats not to like about NASA? When people think about NASA its always space but we all tend to forget that "A" stands for Aeronautics and alot of their groundbreaking research and development never leaves the atmosphere.
The Armstrong Flight research Center (formerly known as the Dryden Flight Research Center) is located at Edwards Air Force Base. They do have an annex located at Plant 42 in Palmdale, but this is the main center
From here they conduct a variety of research. Past projects are a who's who of aviation legends from the Bell X-1, F-104N, The F-15 ACTIV, F-8, SR-71, HL-10, HiMat, X-29 etc etc etc. and they are all on display.
They are currently working on a variety of X planes that take advantage of the massive runway and facilities there.
It is difficult to get a tour and even stop to look at the static displays unless you have business at AFRC. read more
