Where do I begin, I went with High Desert originally back in 2012 for my daughter. I wasn't overly impressed with her lessons, but it was what it was. When my son was ready I went with Quartz Hill Driving School and was extremely happy. In 2020 my ypungest son and his girlfriend went to high desert driving school because that is the school that was contracted with their high school to take driving school lessons. I enrolled them for the classroom and 5 behind the wheel lessons. High desert was paid for the classroom instruction and 5 behind the wheel lessons for each child. My son's girlfriend received 3 of her behind the wheel lessons and then was told that was the end of her lessons. Then the covid shut downs hit and they had to stop doing the behind the wheel lessons, so my son was not able to get his done. When they did start back up they told me that we were out of time in our contract (even though it was an unforseen pandemic) so they would not honor his lessons nor would they do a refund to the school. For my son's girlfriend her 3 lessons that she did take with their instructor we're taking him to different houses that he was looking at to buy and also calling the realtors for him to find out information on the houses. That was her driving lessons for the 3 of the 5 that they honored was her driving him around to houses that he might be interested in purchasing while he was on the clock working. That whole experience left me with such a bitter taste in my mouth and the fact that they never did give my son his fight behind the wheel lessons even though they kept the money for them. The kids said that the instructor in the classroom wanted to talk more about her personal life than she did the book so they knew more about her than they did about the driving test. Parents keep your kids safe. Please be very careful when hiring High Desert Driving School. The owner Kristine Bistline, was the person that took responsibility for my daughter's safety while on the road. With 33 years of experience as an instructor, made us feel we could trust her regardless of her age. But we were so wrong. Some families may have had an amazing time with Kristine in the past, specially if you were close to her age because you could relate to her adult conversations. Or maybe decided not to openly speak of their scary experience. This is our story. The first time Kristine picked my daughter up, she talked for two hours about her life. I thought it was a strategy of hers to make my daughter trust Kristine to some degree. It wasn't a big deal since she kept her in our gated community parked for two hours while she talked. The second time Kristine picked my daughter up, Kristine didn't focus at all on my childs safety or driving education. For two hours my daughter put up with Kristines conspiracy theories, family issues/stories and Politics. Kristine forgot she was the instructor, with an unexperience child that had no prior experience behind the wheel. We paid $395.00 for my daughter to get an education on driving. Instead she got an education on how to fear the road. My daughter was stressed out, couldn't focus, and nervously driving on the open road that she wasn't familiar with. Sometime during those 2 hours my daughter almost crashed with another vehicle and to this day she refuses to get behind the wheel. It took two hours for this lady to change a happy and confident child, to a child that's afraid of her surroundings when on the road. Thinking every car that approaches is going to hit us. When I reached out to Kristine she though it was no big deal. That she had no issues with my daughter and everything went well. But when I confronted her with my daughters experience, she immediately put all the blame on my daughter. She said "my daughter was tired" and that's what made her a bad driver that day. She went on by saying that "my daughter might need a therapist". The nerve of that lady! She also tried to convince me to pay her extra for another 6 hours to torturemy kid. She promised she would make her an expert by then. I think the one that needs a therapist is her. It's been 6 weeks now since this experience and my daughter still refuses to get behind the wheel. I know she will eventually get over it. But it was just not worth the time, money, or my daughter's fear of driving now. We requested for a full refund, but she refused. She said she refunded $120 for the 2 hours she didn't take her out. We still have not seen that money, its been 6 weeks. Kristine went from being a nice old lady to a viciously mean and insulting woman. She turned into a Karen very quickly when exposed. Parents, please listen to your children if they have any concerns with their instructor. They are after all strangers. I can honestly say, my daughter was not safe in Kristine's care. I did reach out to AAA Ins. and they have an excellent reputation along with cameras in the vehicles, so you can hear and see your childs progress. I had my oldest son take their training lessons with them back in 2016, with no issues, so I came back for my youngest, and signed him up, and then the pandemic started, so I went back to see if he could complete the training now, and this lady was utterly unpleasant to deal with, and frankly unprofessional, and unapologetic about it at that. Absolutely awful! Take your business elsewhere!!!! My son finished his course in the time given and we didn't do behind the wheels because of Covid-19 and I am high risk. When I called to get his behind the wheels she said he has long been expired and he has to do it within the 90 days he started his first class. He signed up last Aug and she told me that was BEFORE the coronavirus??????! she was going to charge me the full price of the class ($395!!!!!!) for the behind the wheels. To say I am DISAPPOINTED can not even cover how I feel about our recent experience. I went to High Desert when I was a kid and it was amazing, I had the best experience and when signing my daighter up I was expecting the same for her. They refused to call back when we where having troubles getting the permit, drove to the office during buisness hours to find the doors locked! After not recieving the help we deserved and paid for I took my daughter to QH driving school they answered all the questions we had and helped us get my daughters permit and will be using them for behind the wheel, even thought we already paid in full at High Desert and they refuse to give a refund of any kind. Christine was very nice and patient throughout all 3 lessons. The car was well kept and always clean. She was always on time. She gave clear instructions and gave many demonstrations and examples for me to understand. I was comfortable driving with her and she made the experience fun. This driving school has the best prices in the AV, other places I looked couldn't beat it. I took my road test today and passed with a 98 score and even the instructor at the dmv asked what driving school I went to as he said I drove very good. Unbelievable!!! Just take your business somewhere else. These people are strictly after your money. They could care less about your kids driving education. But i get it.. its the law, the kids have to go through it. What pisses me off is we paid extra for additional behind the wheel training. My 16 year old daughters completed their required hours and when we returned for for their additional prepaid hours we were turned down. We were told we had to complete the additional hours before 90 days of the first class. Yes its on their "contract" that my 16 year old signed in fine print. She has to sign before receiving her certificate. But when they up-sale you on the additional behind wheel hours they say things like.. "people use these hours to come back before their test to fine tune their skills" It takes a minimum of 6 months to complete your permit phase, but i guess 90 days is long enough for these people to take your money and tell you to go pound sand. Very disappointed in this local businesses. When we argued their response is.. "we told the kids" Thanks. Im glad i skipped the other 10 qualified driving schools and got taken by yours. If this is your last resort and i mean LAST resort. Check the fine print because these vultures will not give you what you paid for. read more

I just want to take the time to acknowledge and thank High Desert Driving School for their instruction and guidance. My three sisters and I have each attended this driving school from the years 2010-2021. Kristine and her staff are knowledgeable in their profession and truly care about their students. They are very kind and get along with everyone! My youngest sister attended this school last year. In these trying COVID times, everyone is doing their best. From what I understand, the kids are given a certain (more than reasonable) time period to complete their online studies. If they need an extension, the student or parents should reach out to the school and they are gladly given more time. The staff would reach out to their students and send frequent reminders of their lessons. The time limit is 3 months for the lesson package; however, there were several cases that the instructors extended the time to 3 or 4 months when the clients made the effort to communicate with the school. My sister completed her classes in 2 months and passed her written exam with a 98% and her behind the wheel with 99%. I paid $349 for a package that includes an online course. If you have a Mac, the video doesn't work. I was told to download a special media player, but even with their suggested media player the videos STILL don't work. When you email them to complain, they don't respond. Avoid this place! I want my money back. 6.29.18 In response to the owner's reply I offer this follow up. We were so frustrated with the videos that we finally gave up. But my brother got my daughter a PC as a gift and we were prepared to try again because the issue seems to be with Macs. I thought maybe now that she had a PC that the videos would play and we could pick up where we left off. It had been so long that my daughter no longer remembered her user name and password, so we called the school to request it. The owner said we only had 90 days to take the course, and we were too late, so she was unwilling to provide us with a user name or password or let us resume the course. She kept the money for the online course but refunded the portion of the fee that covered the in-person driving lessons. read more

They refused to support dmv road test with their car, arguing that I'm not quite ready to pass dmv exam, they promise to send me copy of instructors work sheets, and guess what, I never have received it neither by regular mail, nor electronically. More over their website seems to be altered after all- the information about using their vehicle for dmv-s road test magically dissapeared. They never gave me receipt on money they have received from me. One instructor made more fun on my driving than providing constructive feedback, she even jumped on her passenger sit, yeling: "go, go!", while I stopped at 4 stops crossroad, politely waiting for other driver to move.....so, if some one wants to see instructor emotions rather hear constructive feedback, may sign for this school. to my opinion they will suck as much money from you as they could, rather than care about result. Avoid this place at all costs!!! It's true what the other yelper stated, this lady only cares about your money because once she's got it all her positive customer service and pleasantries go out the window!!! My son has a sight disability and needed some additional drivers training.. he chose this school after I suggested he go elsewherewhere I sent my other teen. He had called the school previously and liked the verbal experience he had with Christine, so I called and spoke to her. I signed him up for 3 lessons with 6 hours of drivers training. Everything was good after the first lesson.. but went downhill after that. The 2nd lesson was not even close to 2 hours, says the trainer seemed to be in a rush. Between the first and 2nd lesson he was only kept in the area we live in.. did not go on any major streets, on the freeway or do any night driving (which majority schools do offer) He was excited that they offered to go with him his last lesson to the dmv for his driving test. The day of the test he says the driver picked him up at 11am and told him let's go he was in a hurry and that he had another appt lined up (rude).. they went to the dmv but he was unable to do his test because they wanted an additional form signed by his dr. My son was home by 11:25am. He was not able to drive to the dmv nor did they allow him to drive home. I called the school and Christine answered I asked what is included in this 3rd dmv lesson, she asked me for my son's name which I gave her and then tells me her school does not do that or offer that option. I informed her that they did indeed offer this to him she then said they only offer it to 18 and over which I confirmed he was. She then proceeded to tell me that it is not her fault my son did not have his medical paperwork in order and not to call blaming them because she has to pay the driver no matter what. I was a little thrown off at how defensive she was and I told her I was not calling to blame anyone that I was just asking what was included since my son didn't even get a driving lesson out of it. The trainer could've at least allowed him to drive there and back. She would not give me any information said my son was paid in full and his course with them was complete..I said yes I'm aware because I paid for it up front.. she then accused me of calling to grill her and called me abusive, at this point I'm done with her attitude and being nice and told her I paid for services so I have a right to ask questions she advised I did not, I let her know I didn't appreciate her attitude. She was very argumentative and defensive when all she needed to do was provide the info I was asking her, I never asked for a refund or anything just wanted to know what was included in this dmv trip since details weren't provided in writing. I will never refer this school to anyone, Christine needs to realize positive customer service goes a long way and negative word of mouth goes even farther in this little community we live in. I really enjoyed the lessons that I was given at High Desert driving school. The instructors that I got which were Patty and Solomon they were both very friendly and well informed. I payed for 3 lesson for two hours and every lesson even though it was two hours they made sure they both could teach me as much as possible and I've learned a lot from both instructors. My husband paid for three driving lessons for my daughter that are required by the DMV. On the first lesson when Troy showed up to my house, he asked for my daughter's inactive permit. According to DMV it doesn't become active until she gets into the car with the instructor and they sign it. Well, we didn't know she needed it to actual have the first lesson so when he came and she couldn't find the permit, he told her she couldn't take the lesson and to call the office to talk to his wife. My husband called and said to his wife that she Did Not tell him our daughter needed her permit to have the lesson and can we have the lesson back that was paid for....she said No. I listened to a few stories Troy told me about other driving schools and this is one that I want to tell others about High Desert Driving School. I believe this was totally unfair and unprofessional. I will let everyone know these people are about the Dollar First and not about informing parents of things their child actually needs before the first driving class. Things that make sense to them are Not automatic for others and when they take your money, information needs to be given at the same time. It's a kids first real taste of freedom. And boy... There is nothing quite like the pride and terror one feels as a parent the first time their child drives without them for the first time. Watching your child drive off into the sunset while a barrage of grisly scenes plays over and over in your mind...There is nothing quite like it. You want to be sure your children have been taught something of worth when investing in your child's safety. The road can be a dirty, dark place and without the right instruction, it is easy to turn down the wrong street. Christine proved herself a worthy instructor. Not only did she teach my son about the rules of the road, she taught him why the laws are in place as they are, and the reasons for them. She not only showed him how to "pass the test" but shared with him critical knowledge so that he can best maneuver whichever road he chooses to drive. So, if you want your kid to "just pass" the drivers test... Well, you can take them to any old driving school.. You're the parent... You know best.. High Desert Driving School's teachers and driving instructors do a good job however the administration/owner fails to keep accurate records which in my case resulted in additional lessons being required. Their system relies on handwritten notes and erasures to document lessons. When their full proof system fails, it is up to the consumer to pay for an extra lesson. If you decide to use this company, have the driving instructor sign off on each and every lesson. Keep your documentation! read more

Your school needs to provide better lessons if your drivers are going to be on busy streets in a lot of traffic, and with teachers that are more respectful & mature enough not to laugh at such a situation. I was horrified by the two different instructors that showed up to take my son for his lessons. One was a "mumbler", so any question that I asked him, I did not understand his answer. This made me uncomfortable. The next one, a woman, showed up in an incredibly inappropriate outfit. She was wearing a full body spanx with a strapless beach cover up over it?? Unbelievable. Incredibly disappointed in the professionalism of this company. My first child going out in a car with a stranger for a driving lesson a was nerve wrecking time for me as a parent. If I could give this place negative stars I would! Do not hire them for your driving classes. I registered my son and he didn't pass the driving test the first time so he waited to retake the test and didn't request to do the driving test until 9 month later. My son emailed the school and never heard back to schedule a time. They stated they emailed my son back and he never received the email. We paid $300 and he only got one driving class. I tried to schedule the other two lessons and they stated he would have to pay $99 each new lesson. They said it's stated on their website that the class expires but I never went on the website, I called to reserve. Secondly, email is not reliable do to spam and junk mail, who knows if they even emailed. And they should have contacted me the parent to advise the classes were do to expire! My son is not 18 yet and I'm financially responsible for him and I made that $300 payment they chose to steal. I paid for my other son to do classes before a few years back so now they have made $650 from me and will definitely tell everyone not to use them!! DO NOT USE THEM!! read more

All three of my kids completed both their Driver's Ed and Driver's Training at High Desert, and all had great experiences! Christine was so knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. I personally felt more comfortable with in class teaching (as opposed to online) and my kids felt very confident taking their driver's test. They even reserved the final behind the wheel session to take place immediately before the driver's test, and they take the students to the neighborhood around the DMV, so the students know what to expect. In addition, as a Paraclete High School parent, I so appreciate that Christine has generously donated to our annual Vegas Night fundraiser for many years. She is so supportive of our school and our community! read more
