I can honestly say I have tried every café on Stoke Newington and Church Street. Nar stands out for individuality, from the design of its interiors, with the cute salt and peppers, the china display and intriguing photographic exhibition, to the flavour of its dishes.
The menu includes traditional and new versions of British and turkish café food but the taste is really that of a home-made meal, which , believe me, when it comes to ethnic cuisine makes all the difference. I am particularly impressed with the moussaka. My favourite used to be made Z-bar's but since the chef moved I had been on a unsatisfactory quest to find its equal (and I went as far as Istanbul!). Nar's has all you can ask from this dish, from the right blend of herbs, to the freshness and chunkiness of the vegetable and quality of the meat.
The service is outstanding, too. All waiting staff is genuinely enjoying working there and it reflects on the quality of their service. However, considering how popular this little gem of a café is turning out to be, I would advise people to go during the week as there might be some waiting at week-ends. read more
