They have a station at the counter where you can pick your main and two sides. It's not the cheapest place but it's quite casual. The service is very nice and they are very attentive. Food and service was excellent!! I will definitely go back. We were looking something late after a long day. Found Jak's but only a few customers left and we thought they may be getting ready to closing. However they welcomed us in and were very kind. The food was fantastic! We both had the grilled chicken and Greek salad. We also had hummus with pizza bread. I thought the waiter said pita bread, but when it arrived it was pizza bread. Another great little find in London town and little it is indeed. It's not teen tiny but perhaps it could be liken to the size of a very generous living room. Four or five sofas arranged to one side, and who was to be found seated on one of them, British rapper Dizzee Rascal! When eye contact was made, me being me, give a pursed lip smile and didn't retain the contact to see if my smile was reflected. Like Josephine B. said, you really do feel like your in someone's home when your at Jak's. And you're not invading it, they invited you in to kick up your feet and sit for a spell. We were coming home from an American football game at Wembley and I was exhausted and not in the best of moods, so while my experience wasn't the best, it was more for personal reasons rather than anything Jak's staff did. I really wasn't that hungry so my husband and I decided to share an order of the chicken paella. It was good & hit the spot. If I lived in the neighborhood, I could easily seeing Jak's being a regular stop during my week. read more

Jak's Café - Pics at The London Foodie (http://www.thelondonfoodie.co.uk ) I was recently invited to review Jak's Café on the glamorous Walton Street in London's Knightsbridge. Living in Islington, I hardly ever head to that part of town apart from the rare occasions when I go to Harvey Nick's. Unlike other shopping areas like Covent Garden or the dreadful Oxford St where the choice of food outlets is mind-boggling, I always felt rather stuck around Knightsbridge. We arrived at Jak's to find a very charming café/deli - the place was buzzing with a cosmopolitan well-heeled crowd. We were soon greeted by the manager and owner Val who quickly showed us around before finding us a table. Most impressive was his organic fruit and vegetables counter, where platters of gorgeous prepared fruit and veg were stacked up to be freshly made into various juice concoctions. Val prepared us a couple of glasses of pear, apple, celery and orange juice @ £3.50. This was deliciously refreshing and bursting with flavour. The food cabinet contained many different types of salad and other choices, mostly Mediterranean in style with strong Italian and North African influences. We were served two selections of salads these are sold @ £7.50 (3 types of salad or vegetables) or £9 for a larger selection of 5 items. Considering it was well past 3pm, the salads were still very fresh and tasted delicious. Of note were the cabbage with apple and herb salad, and the tabbouleh and quinoa salads. The vegetables were perfectly cooked, fresh and al dente. As we ate our salads, we noticed a constant queue of people ordering food, and the freshly prepared bowls of salad, cakes and other platters being brought out from the café's busy kitchen. The high turnover is a good indicator of the freshness of Jak's food. We were then served three main courses Portobello mushroom stuffed with quinoa, rice and herbs and topped with cheese (served with two sides £9.50), Lasagne £8.50, and Brouchettes de Poulet (served with two sides @ £9.50). The mushroom dish was utterly delicious - the stuffing had an interesting combination of ingredients and flavours. It was filling and felt very wholesome, the sort of food I love eating. The lasagne was perfectly made, with the ragu sauce very rich and delicious and @ £8.50 it is very well priced for the generous portion served. It puts Carluccio's version to shame. The Brouchettes de Poulet or Chicken Skewers were also good the organic chicken had been perfectly cooked, and the tomato sauce was well flavoured, delicate and obviously freshly made in the premises. I do not have much of a sweet tooth, and generally by the time desserts come around I will give them a miss. I am glad that I did not on this occasion as Jak's Strawberry Sponge Cake was fantastic. The sponge was very light, and the cream not overly sweet, counter-balancing the tartness of the strawberries. I loved this dessert. One of the strong impressions I gained from Jak's was the proprietor's passion for what he does and his commitment to serving food that is healthy, very fresh and delicious. I took an instant liking to Val a generous man, a gourmand, someone who is proud of what he does and isn't afraid to share his love of food. I am glad that I went to Jak's Cafe on Walton Street, and to have found a real gem of a place in Knightsbridge's busy shopping area I will certainly be going back to Jak's whenever heading that way. Verdict Excellent, fresh food in the heart of the busy, exclusive shopping area of Knightsbridge, at non-exclusive prices. A must for anyone visiting the area. read more

I have been several times to Jak's in different moments of the day. At night on the weekend, the bar is crowded with young people having a drink or a little dance around the sofas at the back. Not bad for a night you haven't planned anything special, although the music is loud and the heating is high, so be prepared. Good cocktails at fair prices. Jak's is also a good place for brunch. On Saturday and Sunday it is preferred to book a table as it might get busy. I prefer to eat on the sofas at the bar rather than at the gourmet boutique, and it is also possible to seat in the other location in the same street that is called zefi. The food is good and prices are ok, the only problem is with service. The waitress are very polite and prompt, but they follow the new trend of not taking notes. Since the brunch menu has at least 30 different mains and 25 sides, and each plate comes with a main and 2 sides, the likelihood of messing up is super high. A couple of weeks ago I was there with 3 other friend and each of us got a wrong side. We didn't say anything as in the end it was good food and we were in a sort of rush to eat. Food is good though, I loved the stuffed aubergines and my friends had the burger that is homemade and very big. read more

Walked by the restaurant and welcomed by the waiter. Thought it might be a nice place for dessert and coffee. We chose an indoor table because we didn't want to be in the smoking area. As soon as we sat down, we realized we made a huge mistake. The insulation of the restaurant is poor so we could hear the noise from the kitchen and conversation of others except for ourselves. The honey cake was very dried and portion is little for its price. When I looked up, I noticed the waiter was cutting himself a slice of honey cake. How professional?! For all of these above reasons, I would NOT recommend this place. So a few nights ago my friends and I were walking through the streets of South Kensington looking for a late night dinner, and where do you think we ended up? You probably guessed it--Jak's. The waiter nicely set up a table for us in the back so that we could have a private room. He made us feel like we were dukes and duchesses. And he was a riot, making sure we had smiles on our faces the entire time. To order at this unique establishment of Mediterranean persuasion, you go to the counter and pick a main dish and two sides (or, you can order five sides; that's a whole lotta sides). I went for the mushroom and vegetable and goat cheese quiche paired with beets and mushrooms. Yum, they were phenomenal. Better ingredients, better food, Papa Jak's. read more

The staff is nice, the environment is clean and lovely, just a bit crowded especially in weekends, the food is extra extra delicious! They use vegetables and fruits from local produce that is organic, the meals are superbly cooked! They have a variety of food displayed to choose from. Like an up-market Deli, it has delicious and healthy pre-prepared food, very friendly staff, and a small seating space. I think to keep the riff-raff away its a little bit pricey when you add to the main course - I had what looked like a cross between a chicken & mushroom pie/lasagna + a side of grilled mixed veggies + a side of roasted new potatoes = £13. All were very good and tasty, and they gave a large portion. A couple of issues though: I didn't understand why they don't take payment at the counter when they've filled your plate, and they don't give you a tab or a bill - its rather quite complicated having to queue again at the end to tell them afterwards what you ate. The single bathroom is a unisex one. The clientele is a bit posh and snooty: the big thing that spoiled our particular evening were a couple of very rude, impolite and thoroughly unpleasant male customers who didn't feel like sharing a communal table. Oh the delights of Jaks! Amazing foods, amazing cakes, amazing juices and amazing coffees. Yes, yes, it's simply amazing. And delicious too. I admit I've been there twice and eaten practically the same thing: lasagna (beef or veg) and green beans with a freshly pressed apple juice. There are so many things to choose from, but something just pulls me back to the lasagnas. All the food looks fresh and the colorful salads scream to eat more veggies! The staff is fun and they're quick to serve. On weekends, this place gets packed quickly. The people watching is almost as good as the food. I always feel like I should come more dressed up as I sit among the wealthy, thin women carrying Chanel bags, but fortunately, I'm not too uncomfortable for me not to scarf down a plate of tiramisu! It's a bit out of the way of the normal South Kensington stops, but it's an especially nice stop if you're wth some ladies who'd like to lunch. read more

Jak's was presented to me by friends who live in London and call Jak's there weekly "cantine". Once you enter Jak's you stand in front of this huge counter where you see all the freshly home made dishes (fish lasagna, grilled tuna, several types of fresh pasta, freshly grilled veggies, etc.) you choose whatever you feel like, and they'll serve it to your table (if you're lucky enough to get one). For the desserts you'll find also your treat (tiramisu, cheescake, etc.) and of course all home made. I definetly will pass by Jak's next time i'm in London. read more

I have walked past this place a hundred times but never gone in until late one evening on a Monday. The crowd seemed amicable enough and the decor had a classic New York bar appeal so I popped in for a quick night cap. I had a passion fruit smash which was unsurprisingly fantastic considering jaks speciality is fruit juice. My associate, had a rose martini (garnished with a real rose petal) which perfectly captures the taste of a Turkish delight. Cocktails are £11 which is standard London fare, but still pricey if you want more than one, which you will. In brief, great comfortable cosy bar where it is far too easy to run a huge bar tab. read more

Nicely surprised by this organic restaurant in the quiet residential part of Chelsea in a walking distance of the South Kensington Museum Mile. The place reveals a cosy atmosphere and the staff is there to help in a friendly and relaxed manner. The food is amazing and the buffet solution seems to make the service very speedy since the waitresses bring your food and drinks to the table a few minutes after you made your choice at the main counter. I choose to eat the sea bass with two sides of organic vegetables and it was delicious. I highly recommend this place for families with young children who want to stay away from the busy streets. this place reminds me of ottolenghi in that everything is pre-made, and you pick a mix of stuff for your plate. get in line, pick what you want, and find a seat. it gets packed on a fri night, but people come and go, so you can always find a seat, even if it's at the communal table. everything is organic and fresh. i had the stuff eggplant (no cheese or breadcrumbs, just fresh veggies) w/ a side of steamed broccoli and roasted veggies. my friend got the lasagna and a side, and my other friend got the tuna steak w/ 2 sides. everything was delicious. we shared a bottle of wine and a fruit salad and called it a night. this is another restaurant to add to my rotation of healthy eats. read more

I've been here a few times on work nights out, and they can accommodate large groups easily. The set up is a little unorthodox, you queue up and choose your food from behind some glass, they plate it up and you sit back down while they heat it up, then it's brought to your table. The food IS pretty good, the lamb shanks especially, however a waiter managed to drop an entire tray of empty glasses ON me when I was sat down, they smashed everywhere, and I had a bruised shoulder, but I wasn't even really apologised to, never mind had my meal offered for free (which any other place would do). I have adored my many fun nights at Jaks. Considering the location and quality of drinks, I would venture to say Jaks is the least pretentious of the Chelsea bars. While the door is not tough, they do not tolerate obscene drunkenness, which always ensures you don't have to worry about seeing MMA matches on the streets or contend with people spilling drinks on you all night long. Also, the crowd is always nice and mixed, which I love! My one complaint would be that sometimes the bar can get a little messy, so it can be hazardous to rest your glass, arm, etc. But besides that, this is a great spot for a hassle-free night out. read more

This place is a joke. They charge 12 pound for a double. You can't order a single. But they literally pour less than a single. Upon paying realized that not only did I pay 12 pound for less than a single, but I paid 50p for soda water that went with my vodka. Plus a 12.5 percent service charge.
