DO NOT LET THIS WOMAN INSTALL YOUR MICROLOCS. My appointment was scheduled over two days, and half…read moreof the first day was wasted on her starting late (she didn't realize what time she set my appointment for...sign) and running errands during what was supposed to be a 90 minute break that ran way over. I asked halfway into the first day if we'd be done on time and she hugged me and assured me that we would be. Fast forward to the end of the second day and surprise, she's not done. Despite assuring me she would be. She kept putting product on my hair throughout the process, despite us having a conversation about me NOT wanting product in my hair. She also put the finished sections in Bantu knots. When I got home I unraveled them and saw EXACTLY why she was doing that: my locs didn't even make up half of my hair length. My hair is thick and maybe 12 inches, but none of my locs were interlocked more than 2 or so inches. My parts were also super crooked. And tons of different sizes. Microlocs are usually priced based on length and density, because you have to interlock down most of the hair leaving an inch or 2 loose at max! Then tried to tell me what she did was standard sisterlock practice. We'll get into that later. If these were individuals, that might have been fine cuz that's easily rectifiable and that's a temporary hairstyle. Starter locs are supposed to be permanent so the foundation should be solid and something you're happy with. I was supposed to go back Thursday evening but first I gave her a call letting her know I was extremely unhappy with my hair and was concerned about how she could or would rectify it. I told her I was dissatisfied with the parting and the fact that my hair wasn't interlocked down enough. She assured me she could take the tool and go back and interlock my hair further down. So I decided to work it out with her and let her fix it, instead of just cutting my losses (my hefty deposit) which I should have done. When I got there we spoke a little more and cleared the air. I showed her my problem areas and she agreed to fix. Next thing I know I felt her BRAIDING some of my locs down instead of interlocking them like she said she would. So I asked her not to do that and she tried to argue with me. Basically saying what's the difference. Well the difference is that's not what I asked her for. If I wanted braid locs, I would have gotten braid locs. She also told me that if I wanted perfection, maybe locs weren't for me. Okay girl but sloppy is sloppy. And that's what it was. Period. She took out a bunch of locs in the front and admitted that my parts were crooked and that it was because she was tired. She also advised that I could take out additional locs that I was unhappy with for her to fix. So we'd have to schedule an additional appointment. We set it up for the upcoming Sunday. I showed up to her house on Sunday at the agreed upon time and called to let her know I was there. No answer. Called again and texted - no answer. She finally texted me back saying she had an emergency and forgot to text her clients. Final red flag for me. I was done with this ordeal. She clearly took on a job she wasn't fit for, and was trying to get out of it. In the slight off chance she wasn't lying, I wished her well. But I also asked for my money back since she was clearly not capable of finishing the job and stated this was the last straw in a long line of unprofessional events that had happened over the past week. She throws "sisterlocks" around a lot so that people think even though she's not certified and didn't actually attend the course, she still learned and executed the technique that they teach. I didn't ask her for sisterlocks but that didn't stop her from using them and their name as a way to sell her services. Hella disappointed and still in the process of taking these things out and I'm noticing that she knotted the end of my locs!!!! No professional loctician would EVER! Just do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. There are too many locticians and braiders in Inglewood/LA to gamble with your time and money by dealing with her. Needless to say she refused to refund my money even though she botched my hair. She also called me disrespectful for expressing my dissatisfaction. She talks a good game but don't get caught up. There's so much more but I don't have the energy to keep going. Bottom line is she fleeced me. Don't be me. Don't get fleeced. K? K.

When I arrived (5min early) I was assigned to a braider who spent about 45 minutes just sectioning the hair. At the time, I didn't complain, even though it seemed like a long time. After that, the staff started discussing something among themselves, and the braider working on my hair left. I assumed she would return, but after waiting about 35 minutes, I was informed that she had left because the salon owner felt she was too slow and decided to split the job between two braiders. According to what I was told, she became upset and left. By that point, I had already been at the salon for 1 hour and 30 minutes. I continued waiting, trying to decide what to do, until I had been there for a full 2 hours. I then explained that it was already 4:00 p.m. and that I had no intention of staying at the salon later than 8:00 p.m. This was exactly why I had mentioned from the beginning that I have a lot of hair. Instead, I was told to wait another 30 minutes to an hour for a different braider to arrive before they could even begin the service. The fact that the hair had already been sectioned and prepared was not my responsibility, but the owner kept saying that just to keep me in the store waiting. This entire situation demonstrated a lack of preparation and professionalism on the part of the salon management. The owner already knew the amount of hair I have and the type of service required, yet assigned me to someone she herself described as being too slow for the job. As a result, I spent over two hours at the salon without the service even beginning and ultimately left frustrated after wasting half of my day.

As someone who has been screwed over by LA salons with apparently good reviews, I feel the need to warn people about bad experiences and not sugarcoat. First, about me: I have shoulder-length microlocs which I got established at Loc Lov about two years ago. They were established really well, by a stylist who took care to make sure the base of each loc was thick enough to hold the weight of the loc. I usually get my maintenance done at Loc Lov when they have availability. But they get booked up often. So when they don't have space, I get my maintenance done by a stylist named Lele here at Locafella. Lele is awesome, kind, and listens to the client. I usually come early, around 7 AM, on the weekends to see her. Lele appears to have recently moved to another salon, which is a shame. Because I didn't know where she moved to at first, I booked another stylist at this space for interlocking maintenance. I then received a text message from the stylist saying she was not available to do microlocs (even though their website allowed me to book her online) so she switched me to another stylist named Christina. Christina is generally a nice person but there were several issues with my service today. - When I arrived at 10 AM at the salon, Christina was nowhere to be found. 30 minutes passed. Other stylists offered to call her for me. I finally got in touch with her and she told me she would not be arriving until 11 AM. - Starting an hour late, the hair wash was excruciating as Christina kept pulling my hair back way too hard. I didn't see how this was necessary for hair washing. But I let it be. - I told Christina that I did not want my interlocking done too tightly. I care a lot about scalp health, and would rather my hair look less neat and be comfortable than I suffer from traction alopecia. Despite this plea, Christina did my hair extremely tight. I had to tell her to undo a few because they were too tight. What's even more bothersome is that the edges of my hair that she did on the left side are FAR too tight. I'm truly nervous that the hair there will become weakened and that I'll get traction bumps. Even now, I can't lay my head down on that side and can feel the tightness. - Furthermore, she told me that I did not have to get interlock maintenance until I had an inch of new growth - suggesting that I came in too early. I was confused by this statement and had NEVER heard of such advice for microlocs. I had already waited 10 weeks and had an inch of new growth. Waiting any longer would have done damage to the stability of my locs. - During the interlocking process, Christina was rough with separation of my locs. This also made her advice to wait longer to come in even more confusing. I finally stopped the appointment early when she separated one loc so roughly, that it hung nearly completely apart from the root. I was in shock and she told me it wasn't because of the separation. But I know my hair really well and that loc was never that thin. I asked her to crochet repair that loc and then to stop. - I was charged $280, even though my head wasn't done. When I stopped the process, half of my head wasn't done (only the back of my head and some of my left side was complete). However, I'm glad I had the foresight to stop the process as she would've damaged my locs and caused more traction alopecia in the front if I had let her continue. - While this salon is generally clean, this isn't the first time I've gotten bitten by a mosquito here. They have some sort of infestation and have for a while. Today, the stylists talked about but nothing was done. I'm not sure if anyone was called. - It was also extremely hot in the salon. - Furthermore, the other stylists seemed generally anti-customer and spent the whole time talking about a specific customer who apparently wanted too much done. I'm sorry, but I will not be returning here ever to get my locs done. It feels like my voice as a customer is not being heard.
